Full Preterism or Gospel Eschatology – the Solution to the Circular Middle East Eschatological Dilemma Parts 1-2 (Lectures Delivered at the Berean Bible Conference 2017)

I had the pleasure of being invited to the 2017 Berean Bible Conference last month and my wife I enjoyed it tremendously!  I highly encourage everyone to purchase the DVD’s.  Since many requested this material, I’m making it available here and the Lord is also opening doors to put this information in book form.  I hope to develop this more and put it into a book within six months.  Due to time constraints I couldn’t cover all of this material in two lectures, but I’m making it available here.  I haven’t had time to do any detail editing as of yet, but I believe it will benefit you as is.

PART 1 – develops the circular problem within Middle East Eschatology and provides an overview of what Islamic, Zionist, and Dispensational Zionist Eschatology teaches on the following subjects:

  1. war / violence,
  2. sacred space (land of Palestine / world conquest),
  3. a “soon” Second Coming or Messianic figure to usher in Armageddon etc…

PART 2 – develops what the Bible teaches on these subjects:

  1. the NC kingdom is advanced through the gospel and we are to be peacemakers,
  2. the NC kingdom is fulfilled “in Christ” not “in the land” of Palestine,
  3. the “soon” Second Coming and end of the OC age “THE war” of Armageddon etc… was fulfilled between AD 66 – AD 70.

I am also going to add a brief study on the complexity and deity of Jesus for Muslims and Zionists to read so as to further harden their hearts or be used to bring them to the only living and true God.

Full Preterism (Gospel Eschatology) and Middle East Eschatology Part 1 – An Overview of Islam, Zionism, and Dispensational Zionism

Politicians and the media constantly tell us this involves a “War of Ideas” that must be overcome and won before lasting peace can emerge.  Of course when we break this down it comes down to a “War of Theology.” And when we break it down even further it boils down to a “War of Eschatology” that form the various world views perpetuating war in the Middle East.

The Problem Summarized

There are three groups trying to self-fulfill end time prophecy which creates perpetual conflict and war in the Middle East and the world. And they are:

  1. Islam/Arab nations
  2. Zionism/Israel
  3. Dispensational Zionism/U.S. and parts of Europe.

The problem is simple to see – we have these three religious / political systems which contain circular parallels which constantly feed off each other.  Each generation continues in the failures of the previous ones in their attempts to self-fulfill prophetic material that has already be fulfilled and or will never be fulfilled in the hyper-literal way they think they will.

Each believe they can hasten or bring about their version of the Second Coming of Jesus or Messianic figure through war or see war as a necessity before fulfillment can take place.

Each believes these wars are a prelude to the end time “holy war” (Armageddon, Gog and Magog, etc…) in which God will deliver them from their enemies while destroying the other two groups and the rest of the unbelievers.

Each believes that the Anti-Christ will emerge from the other group (depending on current events).

Each believes a particular pieces of land or the world is a god given divine right for them to poses.  At the same time this requires them to subject or expel others from the land and earth which is also another divine necessity performed by them or their Messianic figure.

Each believes these eschatological events are “near” or seek to make them “near.”

So until the “right ideas” come along to solve this circular “war of ideas” or “war of eschatology,” this conflict will continue.  Let me humbly propose to you and the world, that Christian Full Preterism has the right “ideas” and eschatological world view in which these systems must submit on an intellectual and spiritual level.  If this does not take place, they will continue to have blood on their hands and perpetuate generation after generation of false teachers never reaching fulfillment or the carnal “paradise” they have imagined.

I.  Islamic Eschatology

The Main Points to Cover

1).  Islamic Eschatology is fulfilled Through War.

2).  Islamic Eschatology has a sacred land / world Caliphate conquest mandate.

3).  Islamic Eschatology – teaches a “soon” coming of Jesus and end time battle.

1).  Islamic Eschatology – is fulfilled Through War

  1. The Islamic doctrine of Sunnah.
  2. The Islamic doctrine of abrogation.
  3. The life of Muhammad and his revelations in both Mecca and then in Medina – form the two divisions of the Quran.
  4. What is taught in the Quran.
  5. The Three kinds and stages of Jihad.

1.  The Doctrine of Sunnah

“Say [to people], ‘If you love God, then follow me [Muhammad]; God will [then] love you and forgive your sins’ ” (Quran, 3:31).

“Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for any one whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the Praise of Allah.” (Quran 33:21).

“By explaining the Qur’aan through his words and actions, the Prophet through his Sunnah, gives us the best example of how this book is to be understood and practiced.” (Muslim web site).

This is somewhat similar and a rip-off of what Jesus teaches Christians:  “Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Mrk. 8:34).  As we will see, the difference of course is that following Jesus as the “way” entails humbling ourselves, denying our pride and lusts, being peacemakers, loving our enemies, etc…  Following the ways and conduct of Jesus is diametrically opposed to following the sunnah or “conduct” of Muhammad which feeds pride, lust and violence.

2.  The Islamic Doctrine of Abrogation

Quran 2:106. “Whatever a Verse (revelation) do We {Allah} abrogate or cause to be forgotten, We bring a better one or similar to it. Know you not that Allah is able to do all things?”

Qur’an 16:101—When We substitute one revelation for another—and God knows best what He reveals (in stages)—they say, “Thou art but a forger”: but most of them understand not.

The Theology:  If there is a contradiction or apparent contradiction, Muslims are to follow the revelation that comes the latest which abrogates the earlier ones.  Therefore, Muslims teach and are called to follow the violent passages in the Quran that come later, rather than the peaceful ones that were given by Muhammad when he didn’t have an army.

A similar concept can be seen in the Christian Scriptures in that when Jesus and the Church fulfills the Old Covenant promises, it “vanished” and became obsolete in AD 70.  We understand that we don’t need to be circumcised, perform animal sacrifices, and take up the literal sword taking dominion over peoples of a particular land.  The New Covenant abrogates these covenant types and shadows, and we are now following Jesus’ final marching orders in the New Covenant age – that of loving our neighbor and advancing the kingdom through the Word of God (the sword of the spirit – the gospel).  In Islam it is the complete opposite.  Their OT so to speak is Muhammad’s life in Mecca which contain relatively peaceful teachings, whereas their final marching orders in their NT so to speak, is Muhammad’s life in Medina where he get’s an army and begins having so-called “revelations” of violence and Jihad.

3.  Muhammad in Mecca v. Medina

Let’s now begin putting together what we’ve learned so far of Sunnah, the doctrine of abrogation, and now the Quran’s division of Mecca suras and Medina suras.

Muhammad in Mecca

Muhammad for the first 12 years preaches to his home tribes a relatively peaceful message of tolerance and cooperation with the “people of the book” (Jews and Christians). It is during this period that we here Muhammad teaching things like, “Leave unbelievers alone in their errors and bear with them for a little while” and there is “no compulsion in religion” (cf. Quran 109:1-6; 2:256; 73:10-11). He declares he is getting revelations from Allah (a monotheistic god) through his angel Gabriel.  This results in very few followers and much ridicule from his polytheistic tribe and family members along with Jews and Christians that find his “revelations” contrary to their Scriptures and beliefs.

However, while preaching peace during this period, behind closed doors, Muhammad was telling the leaders of his home tribes that if only they would acknowledge Allah as the only God and himself as His Apostle, Allah would give them victory (through war) over their rival Arabs, the Jews and Christians – thus exposing he had violent intentions of gaining an army and that of military conquest even at this early stage.

This message of peace (while concealing the true intent of violence through Jihad) will later be developed and known as the doctrine or practice of taqiyya (lying and deception is allowed to advance Islam when in the minority – Quran 3:26; 3:54; 9:3; 16:106; 40:28).

Muhammad’s public message of peace eventually get’s a bit bolder whereby he begins denouncing his tribe’s polytheistic god’s in a harsh manner.  In turn, they denounce Muhammad and Islam.  While Muhammad secretly desires to conquer various Arab tribes, Jews and Christians, he allows these groups at various times to help him and his small and “persecuted followers.

Muslims claim Muhammad was being “persecuted” during this time period for preaching the truth (thus playing the victim card).  Yet, when Muhammad denounced their god’s it was persecution, but when Muhammad mocked theirs, it was the “truth.”

During this period “revelations” are given that Muslims may fight to defend themselves when persecuted (Quran 22:39-40).

Muhammad in Medina

In Medina Muhammad finds a more receptive audience.  Here the Arab tribes are in civil war warring against each other while at the same time trying to fight Jewish tribes.

Muhammad’s “revelations” become violent teaching that Muslims can kill unbelievers, steal their wealth, and rape and take their women as sex slaves or wives.  And if they die in battle, they will inherit wealth and sex in “Paradise.”

This message of greed and lust appeals to Medina and hopes it can unite them against a common enemy – the Jews and Christians.

Instead of living peacefully in Medina, he returns to Mecca launching 7 attacks on their caravans.  Muslims attack during the sacred month of Rajab (when fighting was forbidden) and kill their first victim.

Convenient “revelations” are given after this event from that this deception and killing was justified – because persecuting and criticizing Islam is worse than a Muslims killing unbelievers.

The pagans realize Muslims will not stop attacking them, so they form a large army to protect and defend themselves.  Muhammad attacked having a smaller army and won.  This was known as The Battle of Badr.  All the Quraysh were captured or killed (beheaded etc…).

Islam is to “strive” or wage war/Jiahd against unbelievers and be-head them along with apostates and hypocrites among Islam (Quran 9:73; 47:4; 9:29; 9:123).

This is a fight involving the followers of Allah and those of the friends of Satan (Quran 4:76). Engaging in Jihad (killing unbelievers and apostates) is the “highest rank” or calling in Islam which produces salvation and guarantees for those that “slay and are slain” to inherit paradise (Quran 9:19; 9:111).  There is no spiritualizing away or “reforming” these passages, because their historical context of what Muhammad was doing, confirms they are meant to be taken of literal warfare.

4.  What is taught in the Quran.

Putting this altogether so far, in the Quran we see it directly and explicitly teaching murder, violence, deception, and perversion as the sunnah or “perfect way of conduct” of Muhammad living out his so-called “revelations” with his followers faithfully emulating them.

We learn from the Quran and the life of Muhammad that:

  1. You can rape, marry and divorce pre-pubescent girls: Qur’an 65:4
  2. You can enslave women for sex and work and formed prostitution: Qur’an 4:3; 4:24; 5:89; 33:50; 58:3; 70:30
  3. You can beat sex slaves, work slaves, and wives:  Qur’an 4:34
  4. ou can kill Jews and Christians if they do not convert or pay tax: Qur’an 9:29
  5. You can crucify and amputate non-Muslims:  Qur’an 8:12; 47:4
  6. You can kill non-Muslims to receive 72 virgins in heaven:  Qur’an 9:111
  7. You can kill anyone who leaves Islam:  Qur’an 2:217; 4:89
  8. You can behead non-Muslims:  Qur’an 8:12; 47:4
  9. You should kill and be killed for Al’llah; (verse of the sword): Qur’an 9:5
  10. You can commit acts of terror non-Muslims:  Qur’an 8:12; 8:60
  11. You can steal from non-Muslims:  Qur’an chapter 8 (booty/spoils of war)
  12. You can lie to strengthen Islam:  Qur’an 3:26; 3:54; 9:3; 16:106; 40:28

5.  Three kinds and stages of Jihad.

There are three kinds of Jihad and it is developed in three stages.

a.  Three Forms of Jihad:

  1. “Jihad of the heart” – fighting evil within.
  2. “Jihad of the mind and tongue” – Agreeing with the right behavior of others while confronting those who have not fully submitted to Allah and have gone astray from his teachings.
  3. “Jihad of the sword” – Enslaving or killing unbelievers.

b.  Three Stages of Jihad:

“STAGE ONE—When Muslims are completely outnumbered and can’t possibly win a physical confrontation with unbelievers, they are to live in peace with non-Muslims and preach a message of tolerance. We see an example of this stage when Muhammad and his followers were a persecuted minority in Mecca. Since the Muslims were entirely outnumbered, the revelations Muhammad received during this stage (e.g. “You shall have your religion and I shall have my religion”) called for religious tolerance and proclaimed a future punishment (rather than a worldly punishment) for unbelievers.

STAGE TWO—When there are enough Muslims and resources to defend the Islamic community, Muslims are called to engage in defensive Jihad. Thus, when Muhammad had formed alliances with various groups outside Mecca and the Muslim community had become large enough to begin fighting, Muhammad received Qur’an 22:39-40:

Permission (to fight) is given to those upon whom war is made because they are oppressed, and most surely Allah is well able to assist them; Those who have been expelled from their homes without a just cause except that they say: our Lord is Allah. . . .

Although Muslims in the West often pretend that Islam only allows defensive fighting, later revelations show otherwise.

STAGE THREE—When Muslims establish a majority and achieve political power in an area, they are commanded to engage in offensive Jihad. Hence, once Mecca and Arabia were under Muhammad’s control, he received the call the fight all unbelievers. In Surah 9:29, we read:

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Notice that this verse doesn’t order Muslims to fight oppressors, but to fight those who don’t believe in Islam (including the “People of the Book”—Jews and Christians).”  (David Wood, Acts17).

Unity on the meaning of Sharia Law and Jihad

Gregory Davis writes on the unity of understanding the meaning of Jihad within Sharia Law among various sects of Islam,

“One of the common elements to all Islamic schools of thought is jihad, understood as the obligation of the Ummah to conquer and subdue the world in the name of Allah and rule it under Sharia law. The four [main Sunni]…schools — — all agree that there is a collective obligation on Muslims to make war on the rest of the world. Furthermore, even the schools of thought outside Sunni orthodoxy, including the [Shia school Jafari], agree on the necessity of jihad.”  (Islam 101,

The way to bring out the true motivations of Muslims, is to poll if they desire to have the nations of the world be governed by Sharia Law.  Then next ask how Muhammad (as the perfect messenger of Allah) sought to bring it about upon the nations and how the Quran commads them to – as they emulate the ways of Muhammad.

2).  Islamic Eschatology has a sacred land / world Caliphate mandate.

Islam divides the nations of the world into two houses or spheres:

  1. The House of Islam (dar al-Islam) – those nations and lands that have already been conquered and submitted to Allah and Sharia Law.
  1. The House of War (dar al-harb) – those nations and lands that have yet to be conquered and submit to Allah and Sharia Law.

Islam is to conquer all the religions of the world (Quran 61:9, 48:28, 9:3).

Land that was once conquered under Islam will always belong to Islam.  For example – since Muhammad conquered Jerusalem and allegedly ascended from the site of Solomon’s Temple, Islam will NEVER concede that Jerusalem belongs to any other than the that of Islam and it’s caliphate ambitions.

Muhammad and the Caliphate Mandate

Muhammad sought to make his bloody conquests beyond Arabia contacting rulers (King of Persia; Emperor of Rome; and others) inviting them to Allah and to “embrace Islam and you will be safe” obviously implying that if they din’t embrace Islam they would suffer the same fate as others (Muslim, book 19, no. 4382; Bukhari, vol. 4, book 56, no. 2941).

Muhammad also promises that the first of his armies to invade Constantinople, “will be forgiven their sins.”  An interesting side note here is that later the Catholic Pope and various monks use this same manipulative technique to motivate the crusaders granting them the forgiveness of sins if they partake in this “the end is near” “holy war” battle against the Muslims – seeing them as the beast of Daniel and Revelation.

The Muslim Caliphate dwarfs the Roman Empire.  And Muslims have a Caliphate up until WWI in Turkey.  Some view Iran as an Islamic Caliphate of sorts and of course ISIS has resurrected the “end is near” Islamic Caliphate expectation.

3).  Islamic Eschatology – teaches a “soon” Second Coming of Jesus and end time battle.

The title of ISIS’s magazine “Dabiq” (pronounced DA-bik) helps us understand Islamic eschatology and worldview. The Syrian town of Dabiq is where the Prophet Mohammed is supposed to have predicted that the armies of Islam and “Rome” (or the Christian West) would meet for the final battle that will precede the end of time and the triumph of true Islam.  ISIS writes, “As the world progresses towards ‘the Great Battle’ to be held at Dabiq, the option to stand on the sidelines as a mere observer is being lost.” The propaganda goes something like this: “The FINAL Jihad has begun.  We have captured the land, where the last holy war is now being fought.  This is your “final opportunity” because there will be no other wars in which you may martyr yourselves for Allah and secure your place in paradise.” When American aid worker Peter Kassig was murdered by ISIS many ISIS videos — said of Kassig: “We bury the first crusader in Dabiq, eagerly waiting for the rest of your armies to arrive.”  In other words, ISIS is trying to self-fulfill their prophecies by provoking the West into invading Syria and into a ground war – which they believe will cause the Second Coming of Jesus to take place and then he will finish killing off the infidels for them.

Dr. Sebastian Gorka of FOX News writes in his book Defeating Jihad:

“Like Judaism, Christianity, or any other major religion, Islam has a well-developed eschatology.  Christian eschatology, based in part on the Book of Revelation, [where there are] …a series of battles before Judgment Day between the forces of an Anti-Christ and the last Christians on earth, culminates on the plains of Megiddo in northern Israel.”

He goes to demonstrate that in a distinct parallel between what a lot of Christian Zionists believe, Islamic eschatology also teaches of a diabolic figure who will lead the forces of the infidels into a series of great battles…”  So the Islamic Megiddo for Muslims is actually the territory of Syria and Iraque.  ISIS in their publications claim Jesus’ Second Coming is going to take place “very soon” in our lifetimes because of wars they are initiating.  I also cite a helpful article by CNN on my site showing how EVERY sect within Islam (not just ISIS) sees their current wars in the Middle East (even Muslims on both sides of the civil war in Syria for example) as fulfilling their end time prophecies and creating an atmosphere to where they all believe Jesus’ Second Coming is “near.”

Muhammad, Imminence and Islam’s legacy of failed & false prophecy

Muhammad taught that the Second Coming of Jesus and last hour would be fulfilled “shortly” within his generation or within a 100 years of those he was speaking to:

Allah’s Apostle said, “By Him in Whose Hands my soul is, son of Mary (Jesus) will SHORTLY DESCEND AMONGST YOU people (Muslims) as a just ruler and will break the Cross (i.e. destroy the Christians) (Sahih al-Bukhari, Volume 3, Book 34, Number 425).

“Anas reported: A young boy…happened to pass by (the Holy Prophet) and he was of my age. Thereupon Allah’s Apostle (may peace be apon him) said: If he lives long he would not grow very old till the Last Hour would come (to the old People of this generation).” (Sahih Muslim, bk. 41, 7053).

“Once the Prophet led us in the ‘Isha’ prayer during the last days of his life and after finishing it (the prayer) (with Taslim) he said: “Do you realize (the importance of) this night? Nobody present on the surface of the earth tonight will be living after the completion of one hundred years from this night.” (Sahih al-Bukhari, vol. 1, #116).

So how do futurist Christians and Muslim Apologists deal with imminence in their debates?

Since Jesus clearly taught that He would return in the lifetime and generation of those he spoke to and Muhammad taught that Jesus’ Second Coming and the “last hour” would be fulfilled in the lifetime and generation that he spoke to, it becomes very interesting to say the very least, when futurist Christians debate futurist Muslims on issues related to the reliability of the Bible, the reliability of the Quran, or the validity of Jesus or Muhammad as a faithful prophet.

Let me give you a brief summary of how the James White and Shabir Alley debates have gone thus far when this subject has come up:

Shabir Alley – argued that since Jesus and the NT teaches that the Second Coming of Jesus was supposed to occur in the lifetime and generation of the first century church, then this proves the Christian Jesus is a false prophet and the NT has been corrupted and added to.  Therefore, Allah gave Muhammad the most accurate revelations about Jesus as revealed in the Quran and Haddiths.

James White – Surprisingly totally ignored Shabir’s argument and appeals to NT imminence.  He refers the listeners to listen to his teaching on Matthew 24 where he tells his church that he “dreads” teaching on this subject.  In the debate with Alley he pointed out that the Temple was destroyed in AD 70 in Jesus’ generation.  Alley countered that his point was that Jesus promised that His Second Coming would also take place in that first century generation.  White was silent from then on, because in his teaching on Matthew 24 he believes the coming of Christ there is His Second Coming and not a coming that was fulfilled in AD 70.

So what is the REAL Christian response to the Muslim argument here of Jesus’ teaching on imminence?

Christian Full Preterist – Jesus was a faithful prophet when He came upon the clouds in the lifetime and generation of the first century church as the Ancient of Days, the Alpha and Omega, The Word of God, and the King of Kings bringing an end to the Old Covenant age in AD 70. And since Jesus did come when He promised, this proves Muhammad is a false prophet.  Not only this, but per the Islamic argument and standard of imminence for a prophet, then this further condemned Muhammad as a false prophet for teaching a “soon” Second Coming.  As far as the Muslim argument that the Christian Bible has been corrupted or added to, we would respond as White has, that this is not the position of the Quran and the early sources within Islam.  Alley’s “corruption of the text” argument wasn’t invented until 1064.

These are arguments only a Full Preterist can make when it comes to countering the Muslim argument on NT imminence while at the same time addressing the failed imminence within their own sources.  After reading my articles and response to both he and White, this is why Shabir Alley said he would only debate me on the subject of the deity of Christ and not the imminence of Jesus’ eschatology or that of Muhammad’s.

The Eschatological Goals of Islam

Clearly the eschatology of Islam calls for the military conquest of all the nations of the earth to subject to Sharia Law or be enslaved or perish by the sword.  It’s violence is due to the doctrine of Sunnah (the example and pattern of Muhammad), doctrine of abrogation (latter violent passages as final marching orders for Isam), and what is taught in the Quran itself to militarily conquer all the religions and nations of the earth and implement Sharia Law.

II.  Zionist Eschatology

While there are various strains and forms of Zionism, my focus in this lecture will be on religious/Talmudic Zionism or Messianic Zionism.  This is where Zionists try and equate modern Christian Arabs or Muslim Arabs living in Palestine with the ancient Amalekites under the Old Covenant and have convinced themselves that they have a divine right today to perform ethnic cleansing of these groups — because again the have a divine right to the land.  They also believe that it is through these modern wars, theft, and ethnic cleansing that they will usher in the Messiah’s coming and world “redemption.”

3 Main Points to Cover

1).  Violent Eschatology – Why is Messianic or Religious Zionism so violent?  A study in the Talmud.

2).  Sacred Space – Are modern Zionists in Israel “God’s chosen people” having a divine right to “the land” of ancient Israel?

3).  Self-Fulfilling an Imminent arrival of Messiah and the Temple through war.

1).  Violent Eschatology – Why is Messianic or Religious Zionism so violent?  A study in the Talmud.

The ungodly traditions and theology found in the Talmud include some of the following:

  1. The Authority of the Talmud over the Torah
  2. View of Gentiles
  3. Sexual Perversions
  4. Views of Christians & Jesus
  5. On Rabbi’s Teaching the Talmud
  6. Knowledge of the Talmud for a Gentile Strictly Forbidden

After the destruction of the Temple during the Babylonian captivity beginning in 586 BC, the need arose for the Jews to interpret the law in Babylon without the Temple.  The offices of the Scribes and Pharisees were created to fill this function.  These men claimed God gave the 70 elders at Mount Saini more profound revelations and traditions than that which Moses was given when he received the Torah.

In AD 70 when the Jews were once again scattered among the nations, the influence of the Sadducees disappears and Pharisaical Judaism with its system of prayers replaces Levitical or Priestly Judaism.

In The Bar Kokhba revolt of 132-136 AD the Jews that were not scattered and sold into slavery in 70 AD would once again revolt against the Roman Empire and be scattered among the nations. During this exile, many were brought to Babylon (where many Jews had already been living from the Babylonian captivity of 586).  The oral traditions of the Talmud are taught during Jesus’ but won’t be officially written and canonized until 426.

So what exactly were some of the “traditions of men” and the “hypocrisy” of the Pharisees by which they were seeking to make “null and void the commandments of God” that Jesus rebukes them for in such passages as Mark 7:13 and Matthew 23?  Why were they so arrogant, exclusive, violent and sexually perverted?  Other than the depravity of man, the other explanation is what they had orally memorized from the Talmud and would officially canonize in 426 BC.

1. The Authority of the Talmud

  1. The Talmud is more important than the law of Moses and it is more wicked to question a Rabbis than to question the Law of Moses.
  1. The decisions of the Talmud are words of the living God. Jehovah himself asks the opinions of earthly rabbis when there are difficult affairs in heaven.
  1. Jehovah himself in heaven studies the Talmud, standing: he has such respect for that book.

Wow, since the Talmud has so much authority, what exactly is the Zionist “Jew” to submit and commit himself to believing and living out?  (Sources:  Mischna Sanhedryn 11:3; Rabbi Issael, Rabbi Chasbar, et. al.; Rabbi Menachen, Comments for the Fifth Book; Tractate Mechilla/Me’ilah).

2.  View of Gentiles

  1. Jews have souls and are humans but Gentiles do not have souls. Gentiles are mere animals created in human form, created for the purpose of serving the Jews (-Saba Mecia 114, 6; Midrasch Talpioth, p. 225-L; -Simeon Haddarsen, fol. 56-D;).
  1. Jews are to “make (‘continuous’) war with Gentiles by deceit and trickery” in order to “free themselves from them and rule over them.” (Talmud: Zohar, I. 160a).
  1. “All property of other nations belongs to the Jewish nation, which, consequently, is entitled to seize upon it without any scruples.” Stealing from and “…cheating of a non-Jew at any time pleases the Lord.” -Schulchan Qruch, Orach Chaim 539; Schulchan Qruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348).
  1. “A Jew may do to a non-Jew female whatever he can do. He may treat her as he treats a piece of meat.” -Hadarine, 20, B; Schulchan Qruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348; Moses Maimonides (“The RaMBaM”), Jak. Chasaka 2:2).

Summary:  A Jew could rape, steal from, deceive, and kill a Gentile at anytime (if they could get away with it) because Gentiles have no souls and were only created for the purpose of being slaves to the Jews.

3.  Sexual Perversions

Rabbi child sex

  1. It is permissible for Jewish men and women to sexually molest little girls and boys from 3 – 9 years old. (Sanhedrin 55a-b; Sanhedrin 69b; Kethuboth 11b; Qboda Sarah 37a; Maimonides, Jak. Chasaka 2:2).
  1. A priest may marry a woman who has had sex with an animal or demon (Yebamoth 59b).
  1. A Jewish man may rape a female Gentile (Hadarine, 20, B; Schulchan Qruch, Choszen Hamiszpat 348; Moses Maimonides (“The RaMBaM”), Jak. Chasaka 2:2).

4.  The Talmud’s views on Jesus and Christians

a.  Views on Jesus Christ

  1. Jesus’s mother played the whore with many carpenters.
  2. Therefore, Jesus was a bastard child.
  3. Jesus seduced and destroyed Israel by performing magic and teaching heresy and apostasy. Therefore, he is currently being punished by being boiled in his own urine and excrement never to enter the world to come (Sanhedrin, 107b; Mishna Yebamoth 4,13; Sanhedrin 106a; Tosephta Sanhedrin X, 11: Jerusalem Sanhedrin 25c,d; Sanhedrin 107b; Taanit 65a; Gittin 56b, 57a; Mishna Sanhedrin X, 2).

b.  Views on Christians

  1. A JEW WHO KILLS A CHRISTIAN COMMITS NO SIN, BUT OFFERS AN ACCEPTABLE SACRIFICE TO GOD AND SHALL HAVE A HIGH PLACE IN HEAVEN (Sepher Or Israel (177b); Ialkut Simoni (245c. n. 772); In Zohar (III,227b); Zohar (I,38b, and 39a).
  2. Christians are idolators, Jews must not associate with them. (Hilkhoth Maakhaloth).
  3. Suggests Christians have sexual relations with animals. Abhodah Zarah (15b, 22a).
  4. Marriages between Christian and Jews null. Eben Haezar (44,8)
  5. Christian birth rate must be diminished. Zohar (II, 64b)
  6. Christian churches are places of idolatry. Abhodah Zarah (78).
  7. Avoid eating with Christians, breeds familiarity. Iore Dea (112, 1).
  8. It is permitted to deceive Christians. Babha Kama (113b).
  9. Usury may be practiced upon Christians. Abhodah Zarah (54a).
  10. Jew may lie and perjure to condemn a Christian. Babha Kama (113a-b).
  11. Kill those who give Israelites’ money to Christians. (but they love taking money from Dispensational Zionists). Choschen Ham (388,15).
  12. Make no agreements and show no mercy to Christians. Hilkhoth Akum (X,1).

5.  On Rabbi’s Teaching the Talmud

While the Talmud teaches the greatest Rabbi ever Jesus, is being boiled in the afterlife, it is says that a Rabbi teaching the Talmud can never go to hell (Hagigah 27a).

Similar to Muslims teaching that those who die in battle are guaranteed paradise.

Knowledge of the Talmud for a Gentile Strictly Forbidden

  1. “Every non-Jew who studies the Talmud and every Jew who helps him in it, ought to die.”
  1. A Jew is to lie and make false vows to Gentiles if they ask what is taught in the Talmud, because if the Gentiles find out what is taught about them, they may desire to persecute or kill the Jews. Sources: (Sanhedryn, 59a, Aboda Zora 8-6, Szagiga 13; Libbre David 37; Szaaloth-Utszabot, The Book of Jore 17)

What Happens When Gentiles Do Find Out What is in the Talmud and How These “Jews” Are Living It Out?

Once Gentiles have found out what these so-called Jews have been teaching in their Talmud about them and what they have been up to — we find the Jews being thrown out of 47 countries in the last 1,000 years.  These so-called “Jews” claim they are being persecuted for their righteousness and have been the victims of “Anti-Semitism.”  Yet from the perspective of these countries the reasons include:

  1. Their starting of revolutions and persecuting and killing of Christians (ex. Bolshevik revolution where 66 million Christians died). While we agree Hitler killing 1 – 6 million Jews (depending on your source) was wrong, we cannot ignore what Communist Jews did in Russia in killing 66 million Christians).
  1. Their predator lending practices and manipulating their currency (ex. Rothschild Dynasty)
  1. Their arrogance and attitude toward the Gentile nations that have hosted (and often protected) them.
  1. Profiting from both sides of a war (ex. Rothschild Dynasty).
  1. The modern state of Israel and its consistent land grab in Palestine, is a consistent expression of the Talmud – it is nothing but stealing land and committing racial genocide (murder) of “non-Jews” – all in the name of “God.”
  1. Most don’t know that the modern state of Israel has committed more war crimes and violations (per the UN) than any nation in the world.

Consider the following racist or religious intolerant views of the modern state of Israel:

  1. Israel’s interior minister Eli Yishai (in the picture with Benjamin N. on the right) has said of refugees coming into Israel that they “…think the country doesn’t belong to us, the white man.”
  1. Israel overwhelmingly segregates its schools, apartments, neighborhoods, whole cities and towns and even in the settlements they stole from Palestinians. Israel even segregates public transport and has “Jews only” roads in the occupied territories.
  1. In Israel it is illegal for a Jew to marry a non-Jew.
  1. A Christian must renounce his faith before becoming a citizen in Israel.
  1. In Israel Jews constantly hit and spit upon Christians in public and urinate on their churches.

But now that the racism and violence of the Talmud has become more public, some such as Benjamin Netanyahu and other religious Zionist fanatics, want to make it the law of the land!  Newspaper headlines read, “Report: Netanyahu Promises Talmud Will Be Israeli Law”

  1. Netanyahu has said, “We will legally define the Talmud as the basis of the Israeli legal system,” Vider reportedly told the haredi news website Kikar HaShabat last night.

And again, “…This is a very important law that will change how Israel looks in the future.…[the new bill] will be a Basic Law that [shows] the State of Israel rose and exists on the basis of the Torah and the Jewish tradition,” Netanyahu allegedly told Vider.

Critics even within Israel point out, “ Benjamin Netanyahu wants to have Israel declare that its legal system is based on the Babylonian Talmud rather than on the secular western common law it was founded on.”

I would go on to add this is a classic “bait and switch.”  Deceptively convince the Gentile nations you will agree to a two state Palestinian occupation of the land in 1947 and build your laws on Western values, but once in, begin driving the Palestinian Christians and Arabs out and seek to establish Talmudic law. Since the Talmud is considered more inspired than the Torah itself, if the Talmud is adopted as the law of the land, how can anyone avoid the theological racism and violence that is interwoven throughout which justifies and paves the way for Israel’s existence and coming of Messiah?!?

Lack of Consistency and Hypocrisy Coming from Sean Hannity and FOX NEWS

Why is it when Islam practices Sharia law in Muslim countries conservative commentators such as Sean Hannity condemn them as not being consistent with Western or Christian values, but when Israel lives out the violent and racist ambitions and worldview contained in the Talmud (even wanting to make it the law of the land) not only is it not condemned, we are actually called on by Hannity and others to continue giving Israel 5 – 15 billion a year to keep doing it?!?

Why did Hannity obsess over trying to warn us about those Obama surrounded himself with (which would indicate his destructive worldview), but not do the same with his “good friend” Benjamin Netanyahu who surrounds himself with violent racists and himself has done and promotes the same?!?  I agreed when Hannity and Beck tried to shed the light on Obama, but why the lack of consistency with Benjamin Netanyahu?

It seems more than hypocritical to engage in Islamic “extreme vetting” (which I agree with and should continue), but then allow Mossad operatives, organizations/cells and dual citizens to thrive (even serve in high levels of our government) here in the U.S.! Here are some helpful quotes from George Washington and Benjamin Franklin that are worth meditating upon:
“They (the Jews) work more effectively against us, than the enemy’s armies. They are a hundred times more dangerous to our liberties and the great cause we are engaged in… It is much to be lamented that each state, long ago, has not hunted them down as pest to society and the greatest enemies we have to the happiness of America.” (George Washington).”
“Jews, gentlemen, are Asiatics, let them be born where they will nor how many generations they are away from Asia, they will never be otherwise. Their ideas do not conform to an American’s, and will not even thou they live among us ten generations. A leopard cannot change its spots. Jews are Asiatics, are a menace to this country if permitted entrance, and should be excluded by this Constitutional Convention.” (Benjamin Franklin).
Hannity is only following Ronald Reagan.  And it is public knowledge that Reagan was only following Hal Lindsey. Lindsey of course knows nothing about Biblical eschatology and has been proven to be a fraud!

2).  Zionist Eschatology – Are modern Zionists in Israel “God’s chosen people” having a divine right to “the land” of ancient Israel?

Benjamin N. believes the national gathering and resurrection of Ezekiel 37 was fulfilled in 1948.  Modern religious Zionist “Jews” consistent assert that God still has a covenant with them and therefore, they have a divine right to the land from which they will be a light to the Gentile nations and from where they can then eventually rule the world.

Rabbi Avi Weiss – “Why is [the land] of Israel so crucial to our covenant with God?  In the end, the goal of the Jewish people is to do our share to redeem the world. This is our mission as the chosen people and this can only be accomplished through committing ourselves to the chosen land, Israel.”  The idea of our chosenness has always been associated with our sovereignty over the chosen land. But first and foremost, Israel is the place – the only place – where we have the potential to carry out and fulfill our mandate as the chosen people. In exile, we are not in control of our destiny; we cannot create the ideal society Torah envisions. Only in a Jewish state do we have the political sovereignty and judicial autonomy that we need to be the light unto the nations and to establish a just society from which other nations can learn the basic ethical ideals of Torah.” (The Jewish – The Importance of the Land of Israel, By Rabbi Avi Weiss – 18 Av 5774 – August 14, 2014).

Rabbi Yisrael Meida, “It is all a matter of sovereignty.  He who controls the Temple Mount, controls Jerusalem.  And he who controls Jerusalem, controls the land of Israel.”

Dr. Nahum Goldmann 1960 President world Zionist congress, “The Jews might have had Uganda, Madagascar and other places for the establishment of a Jewish fatherland, but they want absolutely nothing but Palestine.  Because Palestine constitutes the veritable center of world political power, the strategic military center for world control.”

David Ben Gurion (Israel’s first President) wrote, “Jerusalem is not the capitol of Israel and world Jewry; it aspires to become the spiritual center of the world…”  (Jewish Chronicles, London, Dec. 16, 1949).  In LOOK Magazine (1962) he wrote, “All continents will become unified in a world alliance, at whose disposal will be an international police force.  All armies will be abolished and there will be no more war.  In Jerusalem the united nations (a truly united nations) will build a shrine of the prophets to serve the federated union of all the continents this will be the seat of the supreme court of mankind, to settle all controversies among the federated continents, as prophesied by Isaiah.”

Max Mandelstam 1898 World Zionist Congress July – “The Jews energetically reject the idea of fusion with the other nationalities and cling to their historical hope of world empire.”

Morris A. Levy Secretary, 1946 World Leage of liberal Jews – “The only true path to follow to gain real peace and honest government is through Judaism.  And the Jewish people can and will lead the people to lasting peace.  The promise of Jehovah for the Jewish people to rule the world and for the Jews to hold high places in world government has arrived.”

Who are these Zionist “Jews” and who brought them to Palestine in 1948?

Are those in Israel today of the “Jewish RACE”?  Here are some relevant quotes on the subject:

The American Peoples Encyclopedia, 1954 — “In the year 740 A.D. the Khazars were officially converted to Judaism. A century later they were crushed by the incoming Slavic-speaking people and were scattered over central Europe where they were known as Jews.”

Jewish Dr. Benjamin H. Freedman wrote, “. . these Eastern European, Yiddish-speaking Jews who form the Zionist group practically in entirely, have NEITHER a geographic, historic NOR ethnic connection with either the Jews of the Old Testament OR the land known today as Palestine.”

The Encyclopaedia Brittanica (1973) Vol. 12, p. 1054 states, “The findings of physical anthropology show that, contrary to the popular view, there is no Jewish race.”  “The only race to which the Jews have not achieved assimilation is the Nordic.”

Encyclopedia Judaica Jerusalem (1971)“It is a common assumption, and one that sometimes seems ineradicable even in the face of evidence to the contrary, that the Jews of today constitute a race, a homogeneous entity easily recognizable. From the preceding discussion of the origin and early history of the Jews, it should be clear that in the course of their formation as a people and a nation they had already assimilated a variety of racial strains from people moving into the general area they occupied. This had taken place by interbreeding and then by conversion to Judaism of a considerable number of communities. . . .”

“Thus, the diversity of the racial and genetic attributes of various Jewish colonies of today renders any unified racial classification of them a contradiction in terms. Despite this, many people readily accept the notion that they are a distinct race. This is probably reinforced by the fact that some Jews are recognizably different in appearance from the surrounding population. That many cannot be easily identified is overlooked and the stereotype for some is extended to all – a not uncommon phenomenon” (Encyclopedia Judaica Jerusalem, 1971, vol. 3, p. 50).

Encyclopedia Americana (1986) – Some theorists have considered the Jews a distinct race, although this has no factual basis. In every country in which the Jews lived for a considerable time, their physical traits came to approximate those of the indigenous people. Hence the Jews belong to several distinct racial types, ranging, for example, from fair to dark. Among the reasons for this phenomenon are voluntary or involuntary miscegenation and the conversion of Gentiles to Judaism” (Encyclopedia Americana, 1986, vol. 16, p. 71).

Collier’s Encyclopedia (1977) – “A common error and persistent modern myth is the designation of the Jews as a ‘race! This is scientifically fallacious, from the standpoint of both physical and historical tradition. Investigations by anthropologists have shown that Jews are by no means uniform in physical character and that they nearly always reflect the physical and mental characteristics of the people among whom they live” (Collier’s Encyclopedia, 1977, vol. 13, p. 573).

Some seeing the problem here claim a “Jew” is simply a person who has converted to the religion of Judaism.  But as we will see in Part 2, the covenant that undergirds “Judaism” ended when the scepter departed from Judah in AD 70.  Also, since the birth and genealogical records were burned in AD 70, there are no “Levites” to even get “Judaism” off the ground (even if they had a Temple).

The Irony

History, archeology and now DNA testing confirms that some 92% of Zionist “Jews” in the modern state of Israel today have roots in the ancient Turkish Khazars.  This is pathetic in that most of the Palestinians (Christian or Muslim) have more DNA relationship to Abraham and the ancient Hebrew people than these phony Zionist Khazarian “Jews” do!  And yet they have tried to convince the world that they and they alone, have the exclusive racial rights to the Old Covenant ancient land and boundaries of Israel.  This has to be one of the biggest scams of ALL TIME!  But since most of Hollywood and the media is owned by these so-called “Jews,” don’t expect to hear this where you should be hearing it!

The other irony here is that when you present these historical and genetic facts to the public, this powerful group seeks to silence you by calling you “anti-semitic” when they aren’t even Jewish!  Lol.  I usually know I’ve won a debate with a Muslim and Zionist “Jew” when they resort to calling me “Islamaphobic” or I’m allegedly “anti-semitic..”

History of the Khazarian Empire

The Khazar kingdom was a large Turkish people that at one time stopped the expansion of the Islamic caliphate empire.  They became wealthy through trade and placing an overbearing tax upon those they conquered.  They also specialized in being a mercenary army – renting out their army of 40 – 50 thousand men to the highest bidders.  After battle took place they were known to rape and pillage.  Not surprisingly, the people in the area didn’t care for them much and ended up driving them out of Turkey in around 500 AD to what would be considered today as southern Russia or Georgia.  From here their kingdom thrived from 660 – 1016.  It wasn’t long before they began enslaving those in that area as well.

Eventually they were put in a dilemma.  Coming down from the North was Byzantine Christianity, and coming from the South was Islam.  They knew to choose either of these sides would put them in conflict with the other and this would affect their prosperous trading with both sides.  So they did the politically expedient thing and decided to make their Empire convert to Judaism.  They quickly saw the wickedness, racial supremacy, and violence found in the Talmud which fit in well with their violent and immoral world-view that built their Empire.

In 965 AD they were weakened by the Vikings.  In 1140 they were overrun by the Mongols and driven west and settle in parts of eastern Europe.  Over time they convinced themselves they were ethnically and racially “Jewish” – adopting Jewish names etc…

History of Rothschild Khazarian Dynasty

Rothschild family sons

One of the Khazarian Talmudic “Jews” that settled in Europe was Mayer Amschel Bauer — who changed his last name to Rothschild.  Rothschild means “red-shield.” Thus he hung a sign of a red six pointed shielded star as his logo for his money merchant shop.  It is through his religious views on the Talmud and money he and his 5 sons attain, that will set the stage for the events of 1948 to become a reality.

Mayer Rothschild eventually befriends William the 9th who was a Hession warrior and leader of a mercenary army.  For 12,000 you could hire William and his army to do anything.  England hired them to keep the U.S. Colonists in check.  At this time William is one of the richest people in the world (worth 200 million) and the Rothschilds make a great deal overseeing his estate and making financial decisions for him.   William steals millions owed to his army and then when Nepolean comes after him, he entrusts 3 million to the Rothschilds who in return end up stealing it from him.  The Rothschild’s use this un-kosher and unclean money to begin its international banking venture.  The five Rothschild brothers obeyed their father’s command and branched out into the various countries in Europe.  From here, they end up financing not just various wars, but in some instances both sides of the same war.

The Balfour Declaration in 1917 was created when the British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour declared in a letter to the Rothschilds that his government would support a Jewish homeland in Palestine.  It is important to note, that before this declaration was given, it was agreed upon that if the Rothschild’s could get the U.S. into WWI to help defeat the Germans, that Britain in return would give the land of Palestine to the Rothschild’s and Zionists.

The Rothschild’s funded the early Khazarian settlers from Europe to relocate in Palestine.  In 1948 they also funded and armed terrorist groups, which bombed and terrorised 800,000 Palestinians to leave the land of their birth.  Israel is simply the State of Rothschild.  This is even evident with them paying for the construction of the Israeli parliament building, the Knesset, and the Israel Supreme Court.  The Israeli flag symbolizes both its territorial ambitions and that it is owned by the Rothschilds.  Modern Israel uses the same six pointed star on its flag that the Rothschild’s used as their family symbol (just changing its color from red to blue).  The  two blue lines above and beneath the star symbolize the ancient borders / rivers given ancient Israel under the Old Covenant.

The Influence of the Talmud on the Rothschild’s

Mayer’s father’s wish for his son was that he would one day become a Rabbi strictly teaching and following the Talmud.  Although not becoming a Rabbi, Biographer Frederic Morton, in The Rothschilds, points out how important the Talmud was in guiding the Rothschild dynasty in their unquenchable drive for money and power. He writes, “On Saturday evenings, when prayer was done at the synagogue, Mayer would invite the rabbi into his house. They would bend towards one another on the green upholstery, sipping slowly at a glass of wine and argue about first and last things deep into the night. Even on work days…Mayer…was apt to tare down the big book of the Talmud and recite from it…while the entire family must sit stock still and listen” (p. 31).  He goes on to tell us that Mayer Amschel Rothschild and his five sons were “wizards” of finance, and “fiendish calculators” who were motivated by a “demonic drive” to succeed in their secret undertakings.  And Morton adds that it is difficult for the average person to “comprehend Rothschild nor even the reason why he having so much, wanted to conquer more.”  All five brothers shared their fathers spirit of Talmudic cunning and conquest.

The Influence of the Rothschild Dynasty

“The Rothschild’s are the wonders of modern banking… We see the descendants of Judah, after a persecution of two thousand years, peering above kings, rising higher than emperors, and holding a whole continent in the hollow of their hands. The Rothschilds govern a Christian world. Not a cabinet moves without their advice. They stretch their hand, with equal ease, from Petersburg to Vienna, from Vienna to Paris, from Paris to London, from London to Washington. Baron Rothschild, the head of the house, is the true king of Judah, the prince of the captivity, the Messiah so long looked for by this extraordinary people. He holds the keys of peace or war, blessing or cursing… They are the brokers and counselors of the kings of Europe and of the republican chiefs of America. What more can they desire?” (Niles Weekly Register, 1835-1836).

President Andrew Jackson, the only one of our presidents whose administration totally abolished the National Debt, condemned the Rothschild’s and international bankers as a “den of vipers” which he was determined to “rout out” of the fabric of American life. Jackson claimed that if only the American people understood how these vipers operated on the American scene “there would be a revolution before morning.”

In 1911, John F. Hylan, mayor of New York said that “the real menace of our republic is the invisible government which, like a giant octopus, sprawls its slimy length over our city, state and nation. At the head is a small group of banking houses, generally referred to as ‘international bankers.'”

“The house of Rothschild has arisen from the quarrels between states, has become great and mighty from wars. The misfortune of states and peoples has been its fortune.” (Friedrich Edlen von Scherb).

3).  Self-Fulfilling an Imminent arrival of Messiah and the Temple through war (Ezek. 37-39)

Mai-mon-ides (a famous Mid-Evil Rabbi) ruled on Sanhedrin 98b. giving the following as the definitive criteria for identifying the messiah:  “If we see a Jewish leader who (a) toils in the study of Torah…, (b) influences the Jews to follow the ways of the Torah and (c) wages the “battles of God”—such a person is the “presumed messiah.” If the person succeeded in all these endeavors, and then rebuilds the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and facilitates the in-gathering of the Jews to the Land of Israel—then we are certain that he is the “actual messiah.”

Hasidic Jews – Have a strong belief in the immediacy of Messiah’s coming & their ability to hasten his arrival.  They believe someone is born every generation that has the potential to become the Messiah.

There is a Messianic view within religious Zionism that is very similar to what we see in Islamic eschatology.  It sees war and the suppression of the Gentiles or unbelievers and their nations to take place prior to and actually paves the way for the Messiah who will then come to completely destroy the Gentiles and give each Jew 2,800 Gentile slaves in a “kingdom on earth” “paradise.”

Going as far back to the Jewish Zealots of AD 66-AD 70–up until today, there have always been those claiming to be “Jews” and “God’s chosen people” that think killing and making war will usher in the redemption of the world and coming of Messiah.

In the twelfth century one of those Khazarian “Jews” I addressed earlier, believed he could bring Messiah’s coming by conquering the land of Palestine (i.e. through war).  They claimed that “…the time had come in which god would gather Israel, His people from all lands to Jerusalem, the holy city.”  They wielded their six-pointed “shields of David” of which symbol  would later be placed on Israeli flags — a national symbol that began with this violent Messiah crusader eschatology (cf. John L. Bray, Israel in Bible Prophecy, pp. 42-43) and then picked up by the Rothschild’s.

A modern Jewish Zealot would be Gershon Salomon who said,

“The mission of the present generation is to liberate the Temple Mount and remove the defiling abomination (the Dome of the Rock).”  “The Israeli Government must do it.  We must have a war…The Messiah will not come by himself; we should bring Him by fighting.” (Sam Kiley, ‘The righteous will survive and the rest will perish’ The Times, 13 December 1999, p. 39).

And again referring to Ezekiel 38 and the war of Gog and Magog he writes,

“They (Muslims), ogether with their allies, are preparing for the coming war against Israel in which they plan to finally destroy her. This is going to be the most terrible war against the small state of Israel. This will be the war that the prophets called the war of Gog and Magog. This will be the last war against Israel. G-d is going to show them, and all the nations, that He is One and His Name is One. He alone is the best friend of Israel and controls her destiny, not any of her enemies. G-d will save Israel in this war and will defeat, judge, and terribly punish all the enemies of Israel all over the world.” (A WORD FROM GERSHON SALOMON 100 YEARS OF THE ZIONIST MOVEMENT

Zionists have a history of trying to see current events through the lens of the battle of Gog and Magog as ushering in the coming of Messiah. Louis Jacobs writes, “…World Wars I and II did tend to be seen as the wars of Gog and Magog, as the essential prelude to the coming of the Messiah. Some of the Hasidic masters saw the struggle between Napoleon and Russia as the wars of Gog and Magog.”  (Louis Jacobs, Gog and Magog)

Rabbi Schachter saw the Israeli-Arab wars (of 1948 and 1967) as the “beginning of redemption” and therefore he taught Jews were not to pray for peace because that would delay the coming Messianic redemption (that could only come through war).

Benjamin Netanyahu is on record for saying that he believes the Jews coming back in the land in 1948 was the fulfillment of Ezekiel 37.  This begs the question as to how he sees the coming wars of Gog and Magog to be fulfilled in the following chapters – 38-39.  He is clearly being pressured by Rabbi’s that believe he is to hasten the coming of Messiah and his redemption for Israel and the world:

a.  Chief Rabbi: Since we last met many things have progressed.

b.  Netanyahu: Many things have progressed.

a.  Chief rabbi: What hasn’t changed, however, is that Messiah hasn’t come.

So do something to hasten his coming.

b.  Netanyahu: We’re doing, we’re doing

a.  Chief rabbi: Apparently it’s not enough, since many hours have already passed today and he’s still not here…

But there are still a few hours left in the day, so try still for today.

b.  Netanyahu: Yes.

So what exactly has Benjamin Netanyahu been “doing” to hasten the coming of Messiah?  He has been doing all he can to conquer and drive the Palestinians from the ancient borders of Israel so as to completely fulfill Ezekiel 37 and the land promises (thus undernining the U.N. resolutions and borders).  He has also been provoking the Muslims nations around him and manipulating the U.S. to back them in their provocations.

Jews, Communism, Talmud, and World Conquest

And of course we can’t ignore the more non-religious communist Jew that sees it’s self as a Messiah conquering the world and brining about Talmudic “redemption”:

“The Jewish people as a whole will become its own Messiah. It will attain world domination by the dissolution of other races, by the abolition of frontiers, the annihilation of monarchy and by the establishment of a world republic in which the Jews will everywhere exercise the privilege of citizenship.  Thus will the promise of the Talmud will be fulfilled, in which it is said that when the Messianic time is come, the Jews will have all the property of the whole world in their hands.  (Baruch Levy, Letter to Karl Marx, printed in La Revue de Paris, p. 574, June 1, 1928).

In A Program for the Jews and Humanity, Rabbi Harry Waton, on pages 143, 148, and 206 we read the following:

“It is not an accident that Judaism gave birth to Marxism, and it is not an accident that the Jews readily took up Marxism; all this was in perfect accord with the progress of Judaism and the Jews. The Jews should realize that Jehovah no longer dwells in heaven, but he dwells in us right here on earth; we must no longer look up to Jehovah as above us and outside of us, but we must see him right within us,” (p. 148).  ”. . . the communist soul is the soul of Judaism . . . in the Russian revolution the triumph of communism was the triumph of Judaism . . .” (pg. 143).  “The poor working class is the lowest and most backward class in society. It is therefore the supreme duty of the Jews to identify themselves with them. All other classes will disappear, but the working class will endure forever, for all of mankind will become workers. For identifying themselves with the working class the Jews will incur the displeasure and hatred of the ruling classes, but the Jews must not fear the ruling classes: their rule will be only for a while.”

”. . . the aim of Judaism is to realize the destiny of mankind. This aim cannot and will not be changed, for the destiny of mankind was predetermined by God from eternity unto eternity. And no matter what may come to pass, races, nations, states and empires may come and go, the predetermined destiny of mankind will inevitably be realized. What is the predetermined destiny of mankind? This is the kingdom of God on earth. What is this kingdom of God on earth? It is a human society resting on universal communism.” (p. 206).

Rabbi Harry Waton:  “We can say with Nietsche that the Jews are the highest aristocrats in the world…. The Talmud tells us that the whole world was created only for the sake of the Jew; the Jew is the spiritual aristocrat, the excellent man. The Jews differ from all other races and peoples because of Judaism; Judaism differs from all other religions because of Jehovah; and Jehovah differs from all other gods. All other gods dwell in heaven. But Jehovah comes down from heaven to dwell on this earth and to embody himself in mankind. Judaism concerns itself only about this earth and promises all reward right here on this earthJudaism is communism, internationalism, the universal brotherhood of man, the emancipation of the working class and the human society. It is with these spiritual weapons that the Jews will conquer the world and the human race. The races and the nations will cheerfully submit to the spiritual power of Judaism, and all will become Jews….”

Let’s now move on to how Zionists seek to reason that Jesus could not be seen as Messiah and fulfilling the Law and the Prophets.

Modern Judaism and Zionist attacks on Jesus’ as a divine Messiah or rejection of Him as Messiah because of an alleged failed imminent Second Coming

Modern Zionists and other Orthodox Rabbis claim Jesus couldn’t have been their Messiah because the Messiah (per their traditional and historical views) was not to be a divine individual but a mere man.  Or Jesus is to be rejected as the Messiah because his prophecy to return in His generation was a failed prophecy.  Or Jesus couldn’t be the Messiah because didn’t fulfill the law and prophets the way they think they should have been fulfilled (using a hyper-literal interpretation).  Let’s examine some of these claims.

Is/was the Jewish Messiah to be divine or not?

On one prominent “Jewish” web site we are told, “But above all, he (the Messiah) will be a human being, not a god, demi-god or other supernatural being.” (The Messianic Idea in Judaism, And, “The term “mashiach” literally means “the anointed one,” and refers to the ancient practice of anointing kings with oil when they took the throne. The mashiach is the one who will be anointed as king in the End of Days.” Oddly no discussion is made on this allegedly modern “Jewish” web site of a commonly known Messianic text such as Daniel 7:13-14 where the “anointed one” is actually worshipped.  That doesn’t sound like a mere man to me nor to many Jews before and during Jesus’ day (we will discuss this crucial text further below).  And we should note that Jesus as Messiah did appear towards the “end of days” / Israel’s “last days” in His incarnation and second appearing  – to bring an end of the old covenant age in an AD 70 “very little while” (Hebrews 1:2, 9:26-28/10:37).  Jesus is the exalted and anointed Messiah/God/Davidic King fulfilling Psalm 45:6-7/Hebrews 1:8-9.

Is/was the Jewish Messiah to be “Savior” or not?

Here is the modern day false “Jewish” claim that Messiah was never thought to be a savior figure in the scriptures:

“The word “mashiach” does not mean “savior.” The notion of an innocent, divine or semi-divine being who will sacrifice himself to save us from the consequences of our own sins is a purely Christian concept that has no basis in Jewish thought.” (Ibid.).

Israel’s exodus from Egypt is by far the greatest example of “salvation” or “deliverance” which formed Israel’s view that God alone acts as Savior (cf. Ps 106:21; cf. Is 63:8-11; Hos 13:4).  This salvation was brought about through the sacrifice of a lamb’s blood placed upon the doorframes  of God’s people while the concept of the death a “firstborn” as an exchange for their salvation and deliverance was born (Exodus 12).  This would pave the way for the foundation of Judaism itself – the Temple and sacrificial system necessary to atone for Israel’s sins (Leviticus 16).

“Salvation” was connected to the Messiah’s (the “King’s” or “Anointed One’s) work in His coming lowly upon a donkey (Zechariah 9:9 – a passage known to be Messianic in Jewish literature).  In (Zechariah 13:1) we learn that “On that day (the day of Messiah’s salvation) a fountain will be opened to the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, to cleanse them from sin and impurity.”  How would this come about?  This was due to the Messianic Shepherd being “struck” and the sheep scattered (Zechariah 13:7-9 cf. also 11:4-14; 12:10; Matthew 26:31, 56).

To learn more of the Messiah being “struck” or sacrificed “…to save Israel from the consequences of her sins” (which is being denied by our good “Jewish” friend) we must now turn to Isiah 53 and examine how some Rabbis understood it.  Let’s quote the entire chapter:

“Who has believed our report?  And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?  For He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant, And as a root out of dry ground.  He has no form or comeliness; And when we see Him, There is no beauty that we should desire Him.  He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.  And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.  Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.  But He was wounded for our transgressions, He wasbruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.  All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.  He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.  He was taken from prison and from judgment, And who will declare His generation?  For He was cut off from the land of the living; For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.  And they made His grave with the wicked—But with the rich at His death, Because He had done no violence, Nor was any deceit in His mouth.  Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief.  When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, And the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in His hand.  He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.  By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, For He shall bear their iniquities.  Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, And He shall divide the spoil with the strong, Because He poured out His soul unto death, And He was numbered with the transgressors, And He bore the sin of many, And made intercession for the transgressors.

Messiah …what is his name? The Rabbis say,‘The leprous one’; those of the house of the Rabbi (Jehuda Hanassi, the author of the Mishna, 135-200) say: ‘Cholaja’ (The sickly), for it says, ‘Surely he has borne our sicknesses’ etc. (Isa.53,4).” (Babylonian Talmud – Sanhedrin 98b).

“Behold my servant Messiah shall prosper;  he shall be high, and increase, and be exceeding strong: as the house of Israel looked to him through many days, because their countenance was darkened among the peoples, and their complexion beyond the sons of men.” (Targum Johnathan on Isaiah 53).

The Messiah as a suffering “servant” is also described for us in the previous immediate context (Isaiah 52:13-15, see also Psalm 22). In Isaiah, “Savior” is a consistent title for God, communicating His preeminence and His uniqueness over against foreign gods and idols: “I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from me there is no savior, I have revealed and saved and proclaimed—I, and not some foreign god among you” (Is 43:11, 12). Isaiah further states that God would show himself as savior by the future blessing and restoration of Israel (Is 49:26; 60:16). The idea that Christians have somehow invented the idea that the Messiah is found in such passages as Isaiah 53 or that Messiah would not be a “Savior” – saving Israel (and the Gentile believing world) from their sins is simply not accurate.  These concepts are truly Jewish to the core!

Modern day “Jews” mock Second Coming of Jesus doctrine

“The main task of the Messiah was to bring the world back to G-d, and to abolish all war, suffering and injustice from the world.  Clearly, Jesus did not accomplish this.  In order to get around this failure on the part of Jesus, Christians invented the doctrine of the “Second Coming.”. . . All the prophecies that Jesus did not fulfill the first time are supposed to be taken care of the second time around.  However, the Jewish Bible offers absolutely no evidence to support the Christian doctrine of a “Second Coming.” (Aryeh Kaplan (orthodox rabbi), “Jesus and the Bible,” in The Real Messiah (reprinted from Jewish Youth, June 1973, Tammuz 5733, No. 40), 57).

“The idea of a second coming is a pure rationalization of Jesus’ failure to function in any way as a messiah, or to fulfill any of the prophecies of the Torah or the Prophets.  The idea is purely a Christian invention, with no foundation in the Bible.” (Pinchas Stolper (orthodox rabbi), “Was Jesus the Messiah Let’s Examine the Facts,” in The Real Messiah (reprinted from Jewish Youth, June 1973, Tammuz 5733, No. 40), 46-47).

“This two-fold misapprehension of Jesus ¾ the nearness of the kingdom of heaven and his Messiahship perpetuated his memory and created Christianity.  Had not the disciples expected his second coming Christianity could never have come into being: even as a Jewish sect. . . . The Jews as a whole could not, however, follow after a belief based on so slight a foundation. . . . Yet again, through the preaching of his messianic claims, after he had failed to manifest himself to the world again, in his power and glory, he became, in spite of himself, a “sacrifice,” a “ransom for many.” Joseph Klausner (scholar), Jesus of Nazareth: His Life, Times, and Teaching (New York: Macmillen, 1925), 405).

“The success of the Christian claim or its failure rests to a very large extent on the theory of the second coming. . . . The Jews never had the concept of a second coming, and since it was the Jews themselves who first taught the notion of a Messiah, via the Jewish prophets, it seems quite reasonable to respect their opinion more than anyone else’s. . . . the theory of the second coming is not based on Jewish tradition or sources, and is a theory born from desperation.” (Samuel Levine (educator and debater). You Take Jesus, I’ll Take God: How To Refute Christian Missionaries (Los Angeles: Hamoroh Press, 1980), 15, 23, 49).

The Truth:  Of course the Law and Prophets did foretell the coming of Messiah on the clouds of heaven to judge Israel and establish the Kingdom (the Christian view of the Second Coming).  The (OG) LXX of (Daniel 7:13-14) (the “Bible” during Jesus’ day) states, that “one like the Son of Man” would “come on the clouds of heaven as the Ancient of Days.”  Jesus appeals to this passage (and others) to form His doctrine of His return throughout Matthew’s gospel (ex. Matthew 16:27-28; 24-25; 26:64).  And again, Jesus is depicted in the book of Revelation as coming on the clouds of heaven as the Ancient of Days (Revelation 1:7, 14-17).  What is really being rejected here, is not that the Law and Prophets foretold a Second Coming (or Messiah coming on the clouds to usher in the kingdom), but rather that Jesus Himself (as very God “the Alpha and Omega”) would come on the clouds to fulfill this promise as the Messiah (Matthew 26:64/Revelation 1:7, 14-17). There was no “failure” for Christ in accomplishing what He set out to do in Israel’s AD 30 – AD 70 terminal generation concerning sacrifice and coming on the clouds in salvation and judgment to close the old covenant age.

As the sacrifice (the Lamb of God) and functioning as the heavenly High Priest, He came a “second time” to the eagerly awaiting congregation to grant the forgiveness of sin to the remnant and close the “ready to vanish” old covenant age “in a very little while” to judge and put under His feet His first century enemies (Hebrews 8:13—9:26-28—10:37).  History cannot be louder or mistaken in that Christ did in fact come with power and great glory in AD 70 taking the kingdom from Israel and giving it to the Church (Matthew 21:42-45).  This is not only the testimony of the Law and Prophets, but the testimony of history – the consequences for the Jews rejecting their divine Messiah!  Selah.

Perhaps others have not seen the significance of the (OG) LXX of Daniel 7:13-14, but even Jewish scholars have admitted that the passage is dealing with a divine Messianic figure. In the Babylonian Talmud, Tractate Sanhedrin Folio 98a  (A.D. 400-600) we read:

“R. Alexandri said: R. Joshua b. Levi pointed out a contradiction. it is written, in its time [will the Messiah come], whilst it is also written, I [the Lord] will hasten it! — if they are worthy, I will hasten it: if not, [he will come] at the due time. R. Alexandri said: R. Joshua opposed two verses: it is written, And behold, one like the son of man came with the clouds of heaven whilst [elsewhere] it is written, [behold, thy king cometh unto thee …] lowly, and riding upon an ass! — if they are meritorious, [he will come] with the clouds of heaven; if not, lowly and riding upon an ass.”

Jesus applies both of these OT passages to His redemptive work for Israel through His humility/rejection and suffering servant, to Him coming with salvation and judgment upon the clouds of heaven in AD 70.

Jewish Scholar Alan Segal commenting on R. Akiba. Said and R. Yosi the Galilean disputing over the meaning of the passage said:

“These two rabbis were perplexed by the seeming contradiction in the verses. In one place, more than one throne is indicated by the plural form of the noun. In another place “His (God’s) throne was fiery flames” implies only one throne. Does this mean that the ‘son of man’ in the next verse was enthroned next to God? Rabbi Akiba (110-135 C.E.) affirms the possibility, stating that the other throne was for David. Akiba must be identifying the ‘son of man’ with the Davidic messiahNor was R. Akiba alone in the rabbinic movement in identifying the figure in heaven as the messiahThere is some evidence that Judaism contained other traditions linking these verses in Daniel with the messiah.” (Alan Segal, Part Two. The Early Rabbinic Evidence, Chapter Two. Conflicting Appearances of God, pp. 47-48.  In footnote 21 – 21. b. Hag. 14a Tr. Epstein. Cf. also b. Sanhedrin 38a where other rabbis are said to oppose R. Akiba… (Ibid., 47).  And “… R. Hiyya b. Abba answers in Aramaic, rather than in Hebrew, that if a heretic says that there are ‘two gods’ based on Dan. 7:9f., one is to remind him that God stated that He is the same at the Sea and at Sina…,” Ibid.,  42)

Another Jewish scholar Jacob Neusner addresses the ‘older’ traditions which were:

“We focus upon how the system laid out in the Mishnah takes up and disposes of those critical issues of theology worked out through messianic eschatology in other, earlier versions of Judaism. These earlier systems resorted to the myth of the Messiah as savior and redeemer of Israel, a supernatural figure engaged in political-historical tasks as king of the Jews, even a God-man facing the crucial historical questions of Israel’s life and resolving them: the Christ as king of the world, of the ages, of death itself.” (Judaisms and Their Messiahs at the Turn of the Christian Era, edited by Jacob Neusner, William Scott Green & Ernest S. Frerichs [Cambridge University Press, 1987], 275).

Orthodox Jewish scholar Daniel Boyarin writes on the characteristics of Daniel 7 and the development of Jewish and Christian thought: “What are these characteristics?

  • He is divine.
  • He is divine in human form.
  • He may very well be portrayed as a younger-appearing divinity than the Ancient of Days.
  • He will be enthroned on high.
  • He is given power and dominion, even sovereignty on earth.

All of these are characteristics of Jesus Christ as he will appear in the Gospels, and they appear in this text more than a century and a half [sic] before the birth of Jesus. Moreover, they have been further developed within Jewish traditions between the Book of Daniel and the Gospels. At a certain point these traditions became merged in Jewish minds with the expectation of a return of a Davidic king and the idea of a divine-human Messiah was born. This figure was then named ‘Son of Man,’ alluding to his origins in the divine figure named ‘one like a Son of Man/a human being’ in Daniel. In other words, a simile, a God who looks like a human being (literally Son of Man) has become the name for that God, who is now called ‘Son of Man,’ a reference to his human-appearing divinity…”  (Boyarin, The Jewish Gospels: The Story of the Jewish Christ [The New Press, New York, NY 2012], pp. 31-33.  These and the following quotes are taken from Sam Shamoun, Jesus as the Divine Son of God – A Markan Perspective Pt. 2

“There are many variations of traditions about this figure in the Gospels themselves and in other early Jewish texts. Some Jews had been expecting this Redeemer to be a human exalted to the state of divinity, while others were expecting a divinity to come down to earth and take on human form; some believers in Jesus believed the Christ had been born as an ordinary human and then exalted to divine status, while others believed him to have been a divinity who came down to earth. Either way, we end up with a doubled godhead and a human-divine combination as the expected Redeemer.*…” (Ibid., 34, In a footnote, “In these ideas lie the seed that would eventually grow into doctrines of the Trinity and incarnation in all of their later variations, variations that are inflected as well by Greek philosophical thinking; the seeds, however, were sown by Jewish apocalyptic writings.”).

Ancient Jews described the anticipated Messiah with the title “he of the clouds.”  Boyarin referring to other scholars such as J.A. Emerton points out that any good Jew knew that only Yahwe himself rode upon the clouds of heaven in judgment, “Clouds–as well as riding on or with clouds–are a common attribute of biblical divine appearances, called theophanies (Greek for ‘God appearances’) by scholars. J.A. Emerton had made the point decisively: ‘The act of coming with clouds suggests a theophany of Yahwe himself. If Dan. vii. 13 does not refer to a divine being then it is the only exception out of about seventy passages in the Old Testament.’ “…As New Testament scholar Matthew Black puts it bluntly, ‘This, in effect, means that Dan. 7 knows of two divinities, the Head of Days and the Son of Man.’ Those two divinities, in the course of time, would end up being the first two persons of the Trinity.” (Ibid, 39-40).

“Ancient Jewish readers might well have reasoned, as the Church Father Aphrahat did, that since the theme of riding on the clouds indicates a divine being in every other instance in the Tanakh (the Jewish name for the Hebrew Bible), we should read this one too as the revelation of God, a second God, as it were. The implication is, of course, that there are two such divine figures in heaven, the old Ancient of Days and the young one like a son of man.” (Ibid, 44).

“The Messiah-Christ existed as a Jewish idea long before the baby Jesus was born in Nazareth. That is, the idea of a second God as a viceroy to God the Father is one of the oldest theological ideas in Israel.  Daniel 7 brings into the present a fragment of what is perhaps the most ancient of religious visions of Israel that we can find…” (Ibid.).

The presentation of the Son of Man to the Ancient of Days in Daniel 7:13 is perhaps a reference to Christ in His Parousia delivering up the kingdom (“the saints”) to the Father (“the Ancient of Days”) in AD 70. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. (1 Cor. 15:24)

Again my preferred interpretation is similar to that of F.F. Bruce. According to the Old Greek Septuagint translation of Daniel 7:13, the Son of Man came “as the Ancient of Days” on the clouds of heaven, not “to the Ancient of Days.” This translation is in harmony with verse 22, which says that it was the Ancient of Days Himself who came in judgment and gave the saints the kingdom. It is also important to point out that John in the book of Revelation alludes to Dan. 7:9, 13 in his description of Christ as being both the Son of Man who comes on the clouds to judge those whom had pierced Him (first century Jews) and as the eternal Ancient of Days in Rev. 1:7, 13-17.  Again the context is developing Christ’s future soon” (Rev. 1:1) Second Coming not His ascension.

Unfortunately many Christians apply this cloud coming of Messiah/Jesus to the ascension.  However, the New Testament does not develop or give the slightest hint that “the coming of the Son of Man” on the clouds of heaven would be fulfilled in the Ascension. I would agree with Keil and Delitzch comments that the direction is downward upon the enemies and is developed in the NT to the Second Coming (and nowhere to the ascension):

“…it is manifest that he could only come from heaven to earth.  If the reverse is to be understood, then it ought to have been so expressed, since the coming with the clouds of heaven in opposition to the rising up of the beasts out of the sea very distinctly indicates a coming down from heaven. The clouds are the veil or the “chariot” on which God comes from heaven to execute judgment against His enemies; cf. Ps. 18:10f., 97:2–4; 104:3, Isa. 19:1, Nah. 1:3. This passage forms the foundation for the declaration of Christ regarding His future coming, which is described after Dan. 7:13 as a coming of the Son of man with, in, on the clouds of heaven; Matt. 24:30; 26:64; Mark 18:26; Rev. 1:7; 14:14.” (Keil, C. F., & Delitzsch, F., Commentary on the Old Testament. (Peabody, MA: Hendrickson, 2002), (Daniel 7:13-14), bold emphasis MJS).

Is/Was Messiah to be “worshiped”

Before leaving Daniel 7:13-14 it should be noted that this one likened to the “Son of Man” and “Ancient of Days” coming on the clouds of heaven is “worshiped” (vs. 14 NIV the original Aramaic is pelach – some translations render the word to mean divine “service”).  In establishing the meaning of a passage or word in a particular text we need to examine its usage elsewhere in the same book.  Everywhere in Daniel pelach is used of divine service or worship.  Of false gods in Daniel 3:12.  In Daniel 3:17-18 we are told that Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego only gave divine service and worship to the only living God and would not render divine service and worship to Nebuchadnezzar’s false gods.  In Daniel 3:28 Nebuchadnezzar gives praise to their God and reinstates that they “yielded up their bodies rather than serve and worship any god except their own God.” In Daniel 6:16, 20 it describes Daniel’s divine service to the only living God continually which is given in hopes that God would and did deliver Daniel from the den of the lions.  In Daniel 7:27 when the Ancient of Days came (cf. vss. 13-14, 22) to give possession of the Kingdom to the saints, “all rulers will worship and obey him.”

The Seventy sevens of Daniel 9:24-27

Again, while here in Daniel we should probably (and briefly as possible) address another controversial passage in Daniel between Christians and modern day Judaism or Zionism – the seventy weeks (or better known literally as – the seventy sevens) of Daniel 9:24-27. First let’s review the main various Christian interpretations of this critical passage that have been offered over the years:

  1. Many of the early church fathers and exegetes today find the fulfillment in Christ’s appearance in the flesh, His death, and the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans.
  2. Some modern interpreters see the whole passage to the time of Antiochus Epiphanes.
  3. Then other church fathers and even modern theologians have interpreted the prophecy from the Babylonian Exile to the kingdom’s arrival attended by the second coming of Christ – at the end of the days or end of the age.

As I will argue in this brief article the truth lies within views #1 & #3 with #2 possibly serving as a partial or typological fulfillment for an AD 70 full or anti-type fulfillment of the seventy sevens.  Jesus identifies the seventy sevens prophecy to reach its fulfillment in AD 70 with the judgment and destruction of the temple and city (Dan. 9:24a, 26-27/Matt. 24:15/Luke 21:20-22) closing the old covenant age in the AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” (Matt. 24:34).  But those that have traditionally taken a more preterist view throughout church history have erred in that they usually argue for a literal 490 years chronology of fulfillment and claim the seventy sevens are fulfilled in the life, death and resurrection of Christ (roughly in AD 26 – AD 30) and then reference the destruction of AD 70 as an addendum to what happened between those time periods.  This does not work because exegetically the destruction of the temple and city are the crucial parts of the seventy sevens prophecy and in fact is its climax and brings the prophecy to an end!

Some have suggested a 40 years “gap” in the chronology between AD 30 – AD 70, while at the same time criticizing premillennial dispensationalism for creating a “gap theory” of thousands of years between the 69th and 70th “week” to support their erroneous eschatological system.  Neither approach is exegetical or accurate.

View #3 is accurate in that the seventy sevens prophecy is not a literal 490 years chronological period, but rather a symbolic and prophetic period marked by sevens.  Its other strength is that it sees some of the redemptive aspects contained in Daniel 9:24 to be referring to Christ’s second coming at the end of the age.  It however errs in that it fails to acknowledge that Christ posits its redemptive end and unfolding of the kingdom to be fulfilled:  1. in the destruction of the temple and city (Dan. 9:24, 26-27/Matt. 24:15/Luke 21:20-22), 2. the “end of the age” or “the end” in (Matt. 24:3, 14) is referring to the end of the old covenant age in AD 70 and not the end of world history or the end to the new covenant or Christian age, and 3. Jesus posits the fulfillment of redemption and the arrival of his kingdom and second coming to take place within the same AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” time period (Luke 21:27-32).  And although I agree that the seventy sevens prophecy of Daniel is a symbolic period of time, Daniel did predict that Jehovah’s kingdom would be established during the time of the Roman kingdom (Daniel 2).

The view I will be arguing for acknowledges all of these key elements to Daniel’s prophetic material. And by way of introduction, we should also note that this passage was known to be messianic among some Jews:

  1. San 97a: “Our masters taught as follows of the particular seven-year period at whose end [Messiah] son of David will appear” (This seems to refer directly to the Danielic final week!)
  2. San 97b: “Rav said: All times set for redemption have passed, and the matter now depends only on repentance and good deeds” (All time calculations had been fulfilled).
  3. San 97b: “R. Samuel bar Nahmani said in the name of R. Jonathan: Blaste be the bones of those who presume to calculate the time of redemption. For they are apt to say, ‘Since redemption has not come at the time expected, it will never come.’ Rather, one must wait for it…what then delays its coming? The measure of justice delays it…”

I couldn’t agree more that these “Jews” did in fact miss and reject the redemptive work of their Messiah (Jesus the Christ) in Daniel’s last seven and “Judaism” hasn’t been the same since AD 70 – having reached her “end” during that terminal “crooked and perverse” generation (Deut. 32:5, 20/Acts 2:20-40/Luke 17:20-21, 25; 21:32).  Moses predicted that many of them would not be able to “discern” their “end” (Deut. 32:29). When Israel disobeyed the covenant it is said, “The land will be abandoned by them, and will make up for its Sabbaths while it is made desolate without them.” (Lev. 26:43).

In 2 Chronicles we read, “All the days of its desolation, it kept Sabbath to fulfill Sabbath to fulfill seventy years” (2 Chron. 36:21 NSAB).  As those 70 years of captivity were ending and the land had received its Sabbath rest, Daniel prays for his people and is given a prophetic time explaining Israel’s imminent deliverance from the Babylonian captivity and yet at the same time, encompassing her coming Messiah within a period of 70 sevens in which there would be a greater rest and restoration for Israel. The Anointed/Prince/Ruler/Messiah Jesus is the anti-type of (or the new) Cyrus delivering Israel from her bondage of sin and raising her from the graves of sin-death.  And this partial restoration back into the land typified through Nehemiah and Ezra pointed to an anti-typical eschatological fulfillment of being gathering “in Christ” at the end of the OC age in AD 70 (Matt. 13:39-43, 49; 24:30-31—25:31-46).

I believe it is a mistake for Christians (both futurists and preterists) to take the 70 weeks of Daniel 9:24-27 to be a literal 490 years.  Jesus posits the end to the seventy sevens or weeks and redemption at the fall of Jerusalem (Matt. 24:15/Dan. 9:27, Luke 21:27-32) in AD 70, and there is no way of having this working out to be a literal 490 years.  Modern day Judaism and Zionists mock Christians for this very problem, but it is not a problem I have since I do not take the seventy seven’s prophecy to be a literal 490 years! Lee Irons and Meredith Kline are at least correct on this point:

“The seventy “weeks” (literally “sevens”) comprise a definite period of time until the coming of the Messiah and the destruction of Jerusalem…a period that is actually longer than a literal 490 years.” …the point of the seventy weeks is not to provide a precise chronological prediction but to make the profound theological point that the coming of Christ and the abrogation of the Old Covenant order will usher in the eschatological Sabbath rest for the people of God.” (Lee Irons, Meredith Kline, J. Ligon Duncan, David W. Hall, Hugh Ross, Gleason L. Archer, THE GENESIS DEBATE Three Views on the Days of Creation, (Mission Viejo, CA:  Crux Press, Inc., 2001), 227.  I would also agree with Keil and Delitzsch on the point that this is not a reference to a literal 490 years of chronology:  “That by this word common years are to be understood, is indeed taken for granted by many interpreters, but a satisfactory proof of such a meaning has not been adduced. Moreover, in favour of year-weeks (periods of seven years) it has been argued that such an interpretation was very natural, since they hold so prominent a place in the law of Moses; and the Exile had brought them anew very distinctly into remembrance, inasmuch as the seventy years’ desolation of the land was viewed as a punishment for the interrupted festival of the sabbatical years: 2 Chron. 36:21 (Hgstb., Kran., and others). But since these periods of seven years, as Hengstenberg himself confesses, are not called in the law שָׁבֻעִים or שָׁבֻעֹות, therefore, from the repeated designation of the seventh year as that of the great Sabbath merely (Lev. 25:2, 4, 5; 26:34, 35, 43; 2 Chron. 36:21), the idea of year-weeks in no way follows. The law makes mention not only of the Sabbath-year, but also of periods of seven times seven years, after the expiry of which a year of jubilee was always to be celebrated (Lev. 25:8ff.). These, as well as the Sabbath-years, might be called שָׁבֻעִים. Thus the idea of year-weeks has no exegetical foundation. Hofmann and Kliefoth are in the right when they remark that שָׁבֻעִים does not necessarily mean year-weeks, but an intentionally indefinite designation of a period of time measured by the number seven, whose chronological duration must be determined on other grounds.” (Keil, C. F., & Delitzsch, F. (1996). Commentary on the Old Testament (Vol. 9, pp. 717–718). Peabody, MA: Hendrickson).

These authors also point out that this is not an unusual way of communicating within the Jewish mindset and give the genealogy of Matthew 1:1-17 (whereby evidence is given that Jesus is the long awaited Messiah) as an example:

“Similarly, in his genealogy of Christ, Matthew employs sabbatical theology to structure history.  He purposely dropped at least four names and counted David twice to construct a sabbatical structure of the history of redemption from Abraham to the Messiah.  He states that from Abraham to David is 14 generations; from David to the captivity is 14 generations; and from the captivity to Messiah, 14 generations (Matt.1:17).  This was intentional:  the author purposely wanted to stress this numerical system, primarily because of its sabbatical symbolism (3×14 = 6×7); the generations of the Messiah represents the seventh seven, thereby showing that it is He who inaugurates the ultimate Sabbath rest for the people of God, the eschatological age.  Matthew employs sabbatical symbolism to underscore one of his major themes:  the Messiah’s advent constitutes the apex and fulfillment of redemptive history.”[46]

The book of Hebrews not only tells us when the “old covenant order” would pass away – it was “ready (“soon”) to vanish” (Heb. 8:13), but in chapters 3-4 it tells us that Israel entering the land and sabbath rest were typological pointing to a remaining day or “another day” of Sabbath rest coming. This is the second appearing or “the Day approaching” in (Heb. 10:25, 37) that was coming in a “very little while” and would “not be delayed” in which God’s raging fire was “about to” consume the enemies of God – “his people” (Heb. 10:27 YLT, 30).  In Hebrews 9:26-28 we are told that Jesus appeared in Israel’s “last days” “at the end of [the OC] age” (this is in “the end” or “the end that is decreed” for the seventy sevens to be fulfilled) “to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself…” “…sacrificed to take away the sins of many;” (cf. Dan. 9:27) and “bring salvation to those who are waiting” “a second time.”  Hebrews 9:26-28 so accurately describes the work of Messiah in the last seven of the seventy sevens (his redemptive work in His first and second appearings).

Simply put, the prophecy of the seventy sevens symbolizes a period between the imminent fall of Babylon in Daniel’s day (in 538 BC) to the imminent fall of “Babylon” (the old order or old covenant “Jerusalem” the apostate “Great City” or “Harlot” of Revelation) in John’s day (in AD 70) – a period covering roughly 608 literal years (not 490).  The book of Revelation is outlined with the number 7 representing perfection, Sabbath rest and New Creation motifs (7 churches, 7 seals, 7 trumpets, 7 angels with 7 plagues, 7 bowls of God’s wrath, etc…  Revelation 22 depicts entering into this Sabbath or New Creation rest after Babylon’s/Jerusalem’s fall in an imminent AD 70 time frame (the same imminent time frame we see in the book of Hebrews):  “…sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place,” “Behold I am coming soon,” “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near,” (cf. Rev. 22:6-7, 10-12, 20).

Daniel 9:24 – Here are the main elements of the seventy sevens in Daniel 9:24-27 to be fulfilled for Israel and her city Jerusalem:  1. finish transgression, 2. put an end to sin, 3. to atone for wickedness, 4. to bring in everlasting righteousness, 5. to seal up vision and prophecy, and 6. to anoint the most holy.

Jerusalem “filled up” or “finished transgressions” against God and His Messiah within Jesus’ “this generation” (Mt. 23:31-38; Dan. 9:24a). Christ put an “end to sin” at His imminent “in a very little while” Second Appearing as the Great High Priest fulfilling the NC promises made to Israel and to close the “last days” of the OC age in AD 70 (Heb. 9:26-28/10:37; Rom. 11:26-27/13:11-12; Dan. 9:24b.). At Christ’s return in AD 70, He brought in “everlasting righteousness” or a “world of righteousness” in 2 Peter 3 – the “end of all things” being “at hand” in Peter’s day (1 Peter 4:5-7). Christ anointed and consummated the New Covenant Church as His Most Holy Place and Bride in AD 70 (Ex. 20, 29-31, 40; cf. Hebrews 9:6-10; Revelation 11:18-19, 19-21:16). Therefore, all the eschatological promises made to Israel concerning vision and prophecy were fulfilled or sealed up by AD 70 in fulfillment of the seventy sevens prophecy.

Daniel 9:25 – The “decree (of Cyrus) to restore and re-build Jerusalem” is found in 2 Chron. 36:22-23; Ezra 1:1-4; Isa. 44:24, 26, 28; 45:13; cf. Josephus, Antiquities, xi, 6, 12.  It’s rebuilding in the “difficult times” of Ezra and Nehemiah can be read in those OT books.  The first 62 sevens represents a period from the rebuilding of Jerusalem by Nehemiah and Ezra to the first coming of Jesus – the “Anointed One.”  Jesus was anointed by the Father to preach the good news of the Gospel to Israel.

Daniel 9:26 – The Anointed One/Prince/Ruler/Leader/Messiah (Jesus the Christ), would be “cut off” after the 62 sevens.  This shouldn’t surprise us since we already learned in our section of Isaiah 53 that Messiah would be cut off as well and have nothing (with some Jews conceded this point).  “The people (the Jews or Roman soldiers) of the Ruler (Jesus), will destroy the city and the sanctuary.  The end (of the seventy sevens) will come like a flood:  War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”  Between AD 66 – AD 70 not only did the Romans surround the city, but the Idumeans (Jewish Zealots) did as well and entered Jerusalem resulting in the city being divided into three warring sects – all shedding blood over the Temple area and for control of Jerusalem.  War and blood shed took place within the Temple and thus it was subject to abominations.  The Romans (who were also under the control of Christ) did very little except wait it out and let “the people” that rejected their Messiah to devour (sometimes literally) each other.  Also through the imprecatory prayers of the Christians (people of the Prince), Jerusalem was destroyed and it’s mountain removed and thrown into the Lake of Fire (Matthew 21:18-22àRevelation 8:8).

Daniel 9:27 – The “He” here is still the Messiah (not an alleged “Anti-Christ”) and through His sacrifice He established the New Covenant for the “many” (ie. the Church the new Israel of God).  This last seven was from the anointing of Jesus in His first coming to His anointing the Church in His Second in AD 70.  His Wife and or New Jerusalem is described as a perfect cube as the MHP place was (cf. Rev. 21:16 & “the first” [Holy Place] representing the OC community being removed in AD 70 and “the second” [the Most Holy Place] representing the NC community and its establishment during the time of the “new order” fully arriving at the end of the OC age in AD 70 in a “very little while” cf. Heb. 9:6-10, 26-28; 10:37).  Christ came and overshadowed Jerusalem with desolation and determined wrath upon the desolate in AD 70 (cf. Matthew 24:15ff/Luke 21:20-24). So from the birth of Israel’s King and Messiah (Jesus the Christ) to His second appearing at the end of her OC age in AD 70 is roughly even a more redemptive significant 70 years for her coming out of bondage and slavery from “Babylon” into the freedom, rest and salvation found not “in the land” but “in Christ.”  Selah.

Eschatological Goals of Zionism

The goal of religious or messianic Zionism is to bring about the conquest of Palestine, the rebuilding of the Temple, and arrival of Messiah through war while having an imminent expectation that their efforts will pay off.

Zionism has used and manipulated Dispensational Zionism (through the Scofield Reference Bible), to help create a sub-culture within Christianity that will support their violent eschatology.

III.  Dispensational Zionist Eschatology

 Topics to be covered:

1).  The Churches view of Israel before Dispensational Zionism.

2).  The main pillars and Eschatological goals of Dispensational Zionism.

1).  The Churches view before Dispensational Zionism

a.  Luther and Calvin taught:

That while there were two covenants (the OC & NC), there still remained ONE covenant of grace by which OC and NT believers shared.  Of Matthew 8:11 Calvin wrote, “For, even now, the only kingdom of heaven which our Lord Jesus Christ promises to his followers, is the one in which they may sit down with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”  (Institutes, 4.16.14).

They also taught that “Israel” in Romans 11:25 was the Jew/Gentile Church.  Calvin writes, “I extend the word Israel to all the people of God,…”  “…This interpretation seems to me the most suitable, because Paul intended here to set forth the completion of the kingdom of Christ, which is by no means to be confined to the Jews, but is to include the whole world. The same manner of speaking we find in Galatians 6:16. The Israel of God is what he calls the Church…”

b.  The Influence of the Geneva Study Bible and the Rise of Postmillennialism

But the in the Geneva Bible (1560) we read – “He shows that the time shall come that the whole nation of the Jews, though not everyone particularly, shall be joined to the church of Christ.”

The Puritan’s were primarily Postmillennial and saw Romans 9-11 teaching that the conversion of the Jews and their return to becoming a nation was necessary before a Postmillennial golden age for the nations of the world could occur.

Charles Spurgeon (1800’s) – While Spurgeon strongly disagreed with the wild speculations and date-setting of Dispensational Premillennialism that was forming in his day, he remained a covenantal Premillennialist and believed the Jewish people as a nation would soon turn to Christ and be restored to the land of Palestine, after which Jesus would return to set up his millennial kingdom on earth.

c.  The Amillennial Condemnation of Premillennialism and Postmillennialism:

The Amillennial view saw the Postmillennial and Premillennial views of an earthly kingdom or a distinction of two peoples (Jews / Gentiles) in an earthly “golden age” or a literal 1,000 period to be “heretical” and being nothing more than “Jewish dreams.”  It also condemns the two coming theories of Premillennial Zionism and Postmillennialism Partial Preterism.  It correctly sees the NT as only teaching ONE Second Coming to save ONE people (the Jew/Gentile Body/Church).

2).  The main pillars of Dispensational Zionism that I want to focus on are:

–  If prophetic promises are not literally fulfilled, they were postponed or remain unfulfilled.

–  There are two kingdoms or peoples of God.

–  1948, the land, & Temple promises.

–  The Second Coming and end time battle will take place “soon” in “our generation.”

–  To not support Israel and the Zionist self-fulfilling mission is “sin” “Anti-Semitic” and will be judged by God.

2.1 – Dispensational Zionism & a hyper-literal hermeneutic

Dispensational Zionism makes the same hermeneutical or interpretive mistakes the unbelieving Jews made in Jesus’ day.  And like Zionists, they divide the people of God into two groups (Jews and Gentiles), and they likewise view the Messianic kingdom promises to be fulfilled in a hyper-literal way.  The Zionist reasons that If Jesus did not fulfill these promises “at hand” and in His “this generation,” literally, then Jesus was a failed false prophet and not Messiah let alone divine like he claimed to be.  The Dispensational Zionist reasons that since Jesus’ Kingdom promises were not fulfilled “at hand” and in His generation, they must have gotten “postponed” to be fulfilled “at hand” in our “generation.”  This foundational error is what the others are built upon and from whence the others flow.

Charles Ryrie affirmed that a ”Consistently literal interpretation is indicative of a dispensational approach to the interpretation of the Scriptures,” ”And it is this very consistency…that irks the nondispensationalist and becomes the object of his ridicule.” (Charles C. Ryrie, Dispensationalism Today (Chicago: Moody, 1965), p. 46.)

Earl Radmacher, correctly stated that a literal interpretation “is the ‘bottom-line’ of dispensationalism.”

2.2 – Two Peoples of God?

Promises made to Israel (even NC promises) cannot apply to or be fulfilled by the Church

Lewis Sperry Chafer. “That the Christian now inherits the distinctive Jewish promises is not taught in Scripture.”

Dwight Pentecost. “…it would be impossible for the church to fulfill God’s promises made to Israel.”

Charles C.Ryrie. “The church is not fulfilling in any sense the promises to Israel.”  (Keith A. Mathison, DISPENSATIONALISM Rightly Dividing the People of God?, (Phillipsburg, NJ: P&R Publishing, 1995), 19 (bold emphasis added).

To be consistent with their theology and these statements, since God promised the New Covenant to Israel, here are more alarming and unbiblical statements,

Dwight Pentecost – “the Church cannot be presently fulfilling the New Covenant.”

John Walvoord agrees – the New Covenant is with Israel and awaits the second coming of Christ for its fulfillment.” (Mathison, Ibid. 28).

Pentecost concedes that if the Church has been redeemed with the blood of Christ under the New Covenant, then the other covenants must also be applied to the Church and that would mean that the Bible does not teach an earthly millennium,

“The whole covenant takes on importance, in addition, for amillennialism attempts to show that the church is fulfilling Israel’s covenants because the church today is redeemed by the blood. If the church fulfills this covenant, she may also fulfill the other covenants made with Israel and there is no need for an earthly millennium.” (Dwight Pentecost, THINGS TO COME A Study in Biblical Eschatology, (Findlay, OH: Dunham Publishing Company, 1958).

Charles Ryrie conceeds that the Bible condemns Dispensatinalism if the New Covenant is being fulfilled by the Church,

If the church is fulfilling Israel’s promises as contained in the new covenant or anywhere in the Scriptures, then [dispensational] premillennialism is condemned.”  (Curtis I. Crenshaw and Grover E. Gunn, III, DISPENSATIONALISM TODAY, YESTERDAY, AND TOMORROW, (Memphis, TN: Footstool Publications, 1986), 175).

2.3 – The Seed and Kingdom Promises

In Genesis 22:17 we read of Abraham’s descendants, “I will surely bless you, and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore.”

John Hagee in his book, Final Dawn Over Jerusalem asserts that “the stars in the sky” here is referring to the Church (God’s heavenly people), and “the sand on the seashore” is referring to Israel or the Jews (Gods earthly people).  The two may exist together in time, but remain separate.

Hagge therefore communicated in The Houston Chronicle, April 30th., 1988, that he believes these two groups today can be saved differently.  He believes Jews today remain God’s chosen and they may be saved without having faith in Christ as long as they obey the Torah.  But Gentiles must believe in Jesus to be saved. He believes trying to convert Jews is a “waste of time,” “Jews already have a covenant with God that has never been replaced with Christianity.  The Jewish people have a relationship to God through the law of God as given through Moses. I believe that every Gentile person can only come to God through the cross of Christ. I believe that every Jewish person who lives in the light of the Torah, which is the word of God, has a relationship with God and will come to redemption.”

This is consistent old school Dispensational Zionism which has also affirmed that there are two different kingdoms – one for Israel and another for the Church.  It is taught that Israel was offered the “kingdom of heaven” which was supposed to be the earthly messianic kingdom.  But since it was never fulfilled literally, it allegedly got postponed until the Second Coming and literal thousand year millennial period. For example Clarence Larkin, asks and answers what the “way” was that John the Baptist came to prepare: “Prepare the way of the Lord for what? Not for the Cross but for the Kingdom (on earth).” (Rightly Dividing the Word, p. 51).

However, when the Bible uses “the kingdom of God,” this is supposed to be the spiritual kingdom the Gentile Church enjoys today.  But even this spiritual kingdom awaits a literal fulfillment at the Second Coming.

2.4 – 1948 and the land promises.

1948 and the “Jews” inheriting their land and becoming a nation again is essential to Dispensational Zionism.  For without an Israel, there can be no Jerusalem.  Without a Jerusalem and Talmudic law, there can be no rebuilt Temple.  And without these, there can be no “Anti-Christ” to defile the Temple and a Great Tribulation for two-thirds of the “Jews” to die in.  And without the Anti-Christ to lead the charge, there can’t be the battle of Gog and Magog or Armageddon to fight against Israel.  All of these are necessary elements to be in place before the “soon” Second Coming of Jesus can be fulfilled.

It is claimed that Israel in the OT never fully inherited the land.

The Scofield Reference Bible states of Deuteronomy 30:5, “It is important to see that the nation has never as yet taken the land under the unconditional Abrahamic covenant nor has it ever possessed the whole land.”  Arnold Fruchtenbaum writes, “At no point in Jewish history have the Jews ever possessed all the land from the Euphrates in the north to the River of Egypt in the south.” (taken from “The Land is Mine” Issues, 2.4 July 1982).

Israel’s land promises were allegedly “unconditional” therefore 1948 fulfills OT land and restoration promises.

It is also assumed that the land promises God made to Abraham and Israel were “unconditional.”  For the Dispensational Zionist, this means that a Jewish restoration back to the land need not be conditioned upon repentance and faith.

Since Israel never inherited the land “forever,” this also is alleged evidence that Israel is fulfilling her land promises in our day.

For these reasons, 1948 has to be a fulfillment of many OT and NT land and restoration promises and becomes the “super sign” that Jesus’ Second Coming and the end time battle will take place in our generation.

For example Greg Laurie (of Calvary Chapel) appeals to Ezekiel 37-39 and Mark 13:28-29,

“On more than one occasion in Scripture, Israel is compared to a fig tree (see Judg. 9:11; Hos. 9:10; Joel 1:7-8). I believe that Mark 13:28-29, along with many other Scripture passages, such as Ezekiel 37-39, speak of the rebirth of Israel—the re-gathering of God’s people. When the nation of Israel comes back into existence, Jesus was stating prophetically, it is a supersign that His coming is near.” (Greg Laurie, ARE THESE THE LAST DAYS? HOW TO LIVE EXPECTANTLY IN A WORLD OF UNCERTAINTY, (Ventura, CA: Regal Books From Gospel Light, 2005), 20).

But let’s pay attention to what the borders are to the “land” these Dispensational Zionists and “Jewish” Zionists want us to support Israel stealing and killing in order to take back.  The borders of this land include parts of modern day Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait, and parts of Saudi Arabia.  Some of these countries are our allies in the region, so their greedy land grab and unbiblical agenda will inevitably put us into military conflict with even our allies.

2.5 – 1948, 1967, Jerusalem and a rebuilt Temple.

Since Dispensational Zionists see Matthew 24 needing to be fulfilled in a hyper-literal way and globally, AD 70 and the destruction of the Temple that is the topic of consideration, simply can’t be seen as the fulfillment.  Therefore, in order for the destruction of the Temple at the time of Christ’s coming it to be fulfilled, another Temple must be rebuilt in Jerusalem to experience the abomination of desolation.

For example John Hagee writes of Matthew 24:15-20,

“The holy place is the temple in Jerusalem, and according to this verse, the Jews are in control of the temple.  How could they control the temple without being in control of Jerusalem?  How could they be in control of Jerusalem if they were replaced (by the Church)?” (John Hagee, In Defense of Israel, pp. 156-157).

In Hagee’s book, Beginning of the End, Are We the Terminal Generation, he asserts that “the times of the Gentiles” (Lk. 21:24) is referring to Gentile rule over Jerusalem which began in AD 70 and continued until the Six Day War of 1967.  He believes David predicted that since God would rebuild Jerusalem and show His glory there in Psalm 102:6, He believes we are the terminal generation because this is a sign marking the literal return of Christ to earthly Jerusalem to reveal His glory there.

Hal Lindsey is good at hyping up his base on this subject:

“Obstacle or no obstacle, it is certain that the Temple will be rebuilt. Prophecy demands it… With the Jewish nation reborn in the land of Palestine, ancient Jerusalem once again under total Jewish control for the first time in 2600 years, and talk of rebuilding the great Temple, the most important sign of Jesus Christ’s soon coming is before us… It is like the key piece of a jigsaw puzzle being found… For all those who trust in Jesus Christ, it is a time of electrifying excitement.  (Hal Lindsey, The Late Great Planet Earth (London: Lakeland, 1970), pp. 56-58).

Since the 1960’s, I have been writing and saying that the single most important key to prophecies yet to be fulfilled involve rebuilding the Temple. Twenty-five years ago, the whole idea of Jews actually rebuilding their holy Temple seemed quaint-even far fetched. Today, nobody’s laughing about the notion.”  (Ibid. 156).

Lindsey also appeals to a late date of the book of Revelation and the measuring of the Temple in Rev. 11:1-2 to support his position:

“The Apostle John wrote the Book of Revelation about the year A.D. 95. This means that the Temple… was non-existent for the twenty-five years preceding John’s writing… What Temple, then, was John referring to? There can be only one answer – a yet-to-be-built structure!” (Lindsey, There’s A New World Coming, A Prophetic Odyssey (Santa Ana, California: Vision House, 1973), p. 160.).

Dispensational Zionists have formed The International Christian Embassy to raise money for the rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem.  My former in the 80’s and 90’s and pastor (Chuck Smith of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa) was consumed with us tithing for this abomination.  TBN and other outlets fleece and manipulate Christians for their money in order to self-fulfill their prophetic agenda.

Stephen Sizer points out that Jews for Jesus “provides information and links to eight extreme and militant Jewish organizations involved in attempts to destroy the Dome of the Rock, rebuild the Jewish Temple and re-institute Jewish Temple worship and sacrifices. These include the Temple Institute and Temple Mount Faithful. They have formed a 4.5-ton cornerstone of which each year during Sukkot, the Feast of Tabernacles, they enact the elaborate water-drawing ceremony at the pool of Siloam, and then attempt to set the cornerstone for the rebuilding of the Temple. Each year the Israeli government authorities prevent them.”  Apparently, they aren’t ready to start WWIII quite yet.

Hal Lindsey is actually excited about the rebuilding of the Temple because he believes it will trigger WWIII and Armageddon,

“Christian enthusiasm for the rebuilding of the Jewish Temple is therefore only part of a wider apocalyptic scenario of mass destruction in which the writings of prophets like Daniel, Ezekiel and the Book of Revelation are interpreted literally,…describing pre-written history.”

Others agree that Israel’s current desire to rebuild the Temple will lead to their destruction.  Citing Zechariah 13:8 of two-thirds of Jews perishing David Brickner writes, “the hope of the Jewish people in seeing the glorious Temple rebuilt will, infact, lead to their greatest calamity and suffering.” (David Brickner, Future Hope, A Jewish Christian Look at the End of the World, 2nd edition. (San Francisco: Purple Pomegranate, 1999), p. 68).

Dispensational Zionists are more “enthusiastic” and “excited” about the creation of a 4.5 ton Temple cornerstone than Jesus – the REAL cornerstone.  And they delight in trying to self-fulfill their prophecies and the destruction of two-thirds of “Jews” they claim to love!  And per Hagee, evangelizing these “Jews” to Christ and having them be apart of Christ’s REAL Temple, is a “waste of time” because they can be redeemed through following Torah and embracing the sacrificial temple system.  Make no mistakes about it, Christians are being decieved, manipulated and fleeced to emotionally and financially support this cultic and ungodly heretical movement!

2.6 – 1948 and Ezekiel 37-39 the “in the land” “end time war” is “near”

Like Jewish Zionism, Dispensational Zionism appeals to Ezekiel 37-39 to prove 1948 was a fulfillment of Bible prophecy therefore an end time war is truly imminent for our generation.

John Hagee is known as “Dr. Armageddon” because many of his critics not only have discerned that he wants Armageddon to take place in his lifetime, but he is willing to be a very active participate in order to bring it about.  At a July 19, 2006 CUFI event in Washington D.C., Hagee gives his prophetic scenario for Israel and the U.S.:

“The United States must join Israel in a pre-emptive military strike against Iran to fulfill God’s plan for both Israel and the West … a biblically prophesied end time confrontation with Iran, which will lead to the Rapture, Tribulation … and [the] Second Coming.”

The first to propose that Gog and Magog is supposed to be Russia was John Cumming in 1864. Another cult picked this up – The British Israel movement in 1940.  This group believes the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh lived on in the Ango-Saxon races and one of their leading teachers A.J. Ferris wrote a book entitled, “Armageddon Is at the Doors” in which he proposed Ezekiel 38-39 taught that Russia would soon attack British Israel.  But Hal Lindsey in the 70’s popularized this “Gogology” theology.  During the Cold War Dispensational “newspaper eschatology” began telling everyone that Russia would play a role in this end time battle and attack Israel in our generation.  Why?  Because the “prince of Meshek” – rosh meshek in Hebrew sounded a lot like Russia and Moscow.

But as the newspapers and current events change, so too does Zionist eschatology:

1970 – Lindsey claimed Russia was the threat and focus of the Gog and Magog Battle.

1994 – Lindsey changed it to “Islamic fundamentalism.”

1997 – Then he changed it again to “the Russia-Muslim force.”

1999 – And then again to the “Muslim-Russian alliance.”

In 2000 Lindsey was the first to have a revelation that America was also found in the book of Revelation.  Why?  Well, because our flag has an eagle on it, so the wings of an eagle in Revelation 12:14-17 that carries the woman to safety must be a description of a U.S. airlift rescue mission of the Jews.  Wow, what an amazing “prophetic” insight – why didn’t anyone else think of it!  The fact that anyone (including President Reagan) listens to anything Lindsey says is a sad commentary on the Church today.

Concluding “Christian Zionism”

Christians are supposed to believe and support the following Zionist views:

  1. Jesus nor the NT writers ever taught New Covenant promises given to Israel are to be fulfilled and applied to the Church.
  1. The Old Covenant is “not dead” and if modern Israel wants to embrace Torah and Talmudic law as its law of the land – that’s fine. After all evangelizing modern “Jews” today is a “waste of time,” because God can redeem them through the active OC law. And after all the OC law will be necessary for the third Temple and sacrificial system to get off the ground.
  1. Christians are supposed to tithe their money in order to support Israel to continue in their expansion of their land promises which involves stealing land and killing Gentiles (even Christian Arabs).
  1. Christians are also supposed to tithe their money to build a temple and sacrificial system. To not support the modern “Jew” and “Israel” today is “sin”

The Scofield Reference Bible funded and marketed by Zionists and Dispensational Zionists elaborates on Genesis 12:3, “FOR A NATION TO COMMIT THE SIN OF ANTI-SEMITISM BRINGS INEVITABLE JUDGMENT.

Hagee writes of this text in his book Jerusalem Countdown, “This is and has been God’s foreign policy toward the Jewish people from Gensis 12 until this day.  Any man or nation that persecutes the Jewish people or the State of Israel will receive the swift judgment of God.” (p. 230)

John Hagee says, “You are either a Christian or an anti-Semite. Bottom line, if you are not for Israel and the Jewish people, you either are biblically ignorant or you’re not a Christian.” (”  In other word’s if you do not support modern so-called “Jews” stealing, persecuting and killing Christian Arab’s over land in Palestine, you are committing the political sin of “Anti-Semitism” and God is going to allegedly “judge” you and your nation.  They likewise twist Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25 where he supposedly teaches that the Gentile “nations” are being judged based upon how they treated the “brethren” of the Jewish nation of Israel.

Concluding Our Review of Islamic, Zionist, & Dispensational Zionist Eschatology

As we have seen and I have sought to demonstrate – each of these eschatological systems believes ushering in their Messianic deliverer and or kingdom on earth comes through waging war and is connected to implementing Sharia Law or Talmudic Law whereby they seek to justify stealing land and or killing and suppressing their enemies in order to bring it about.

While Dispensational Zionism is not directly violent, it still has blood on it’s hands since it seeks to manipulate Christians to financially and politically support the Zionist agenda in killing and stealing land from Palestinians (even Christian Palestinian’s).

Full Preterism (Gospel Eschatology) and Middle East Eschatology Part 2 – The Solution

So what if the Church (as God’s “sleeping giant”) awoke to following truths…

What if…The Bible isn’t about the end of world history or planet earth, but rather about the end of the OC age?

What if…OC Israel’s land promises have already been fulfilled and inherited “in Christ” and the “Jews” in modern “Israel” are not God’s chosen people?

What if…The “time of the end” or last day’s battle of Gog and Magog or Armageddon has already been fought and won by God and His people?

What if…The Second Coming and Kingdom arrived in AD 70 and is not a future event?

What if…The Kingdom advances today (and always will) through the sword of the Spirit (the gospel), and actually condemns those that think it comes through setting our minds on an earthly land and militarily defending it?

Wouldn’t these truths radically change how the Church approaches these self-fulfilling eschatological systems in the Middle East?  The obvious answer to all of these is that “yes” this knowledge and application of these truths would radically bring healing to where it is most needed today.

So let’s make our case and change these “what if’s…” into reality!

In my second lecture I want to focus in on what the Bible teaches about:

1).  Apocalyptic and de-creation “end of the world” type language and “heavens and earth.”

2).  Sacred space – How the Abrahamic promises were typologically fulfilled in the OT and how they were fulfilled spiritually in the NT.

3).  Bringing in the “soon” Second Coming and end time battle through war.

1).  Apocalyptic and de-creation “end of the world” type language and “heavens and earth.”

Islamic apologists, Zionist or “Jewish” apologists, along with liberals all affirm that the Jesus of the NT was a false prophet or not God because He did not come physically on a physical cloud to destroy and renew the planet earth in His contemporary generation.  Dispensational or Evangelical Zionists don’t want to come to that conclusion obviously, so they ignore NT imminence and believe the Second Coming couldn’t have taken place “soon” in the AD 30 – AD 70 “generation,” because He didn’t come literally to establish an earthly kingdom and the planet earth didn’t undergo a destruction of fire at that time.  None of these religious groups understand the nature and genre of apocalyptic (that is non-literal, highly metaphoric and symbolic) language that Jesus and the NT uses to describe Christ coming on the clouds and the de-creation language that refers to the end of the Old Covenant world passing in AD 70 and the establishing and maturing of the New Covenant world which replaced it.

God coming and riding upon the clouds and stars falling from heaven as used in the Bible, are metaphors referring to the judgment of nations, not the destruction of the physical planet.  This can be seen in such OT passages referring to the fall of Babylon, Egypt, Edom, and Israel (Isa. 13:9-10; 19:1; 34:4-5; Ezk. 32:7-8; Amos 5:21-22; Ps. 18; Ps. 104; Hab. 1:2ff.).  Did God come on a literal cloud when he judged Egypt by means of the Assyrian’s in 670 B.C.: “Behold, the LORD rideth upon a swift cloud, and shall come into Egypt” (Isa. 19:1)?  Was the physical heaven “dissolved” and rolled back like a scroll and did literal stars fall down from heaven when National Idumea (or Edom) was judged by God in (Isa. 34:4-5)?  No, this was common metaphoric language used by the OT prophets that continues to be used by the writers of the NT.

Most Dispensational Zionist mega church attendees are absolutely clueless (as I once was) that a combined look at some of the best Christian theologians within the Reformed and Evangelical communities, have a Preterist interpretation of virtually every eschatological de-creation prophecy in the Bible. Combined, men like John Owen, John Locke, John Lightfoot, John Brown, R.C. Sproul, Gary DeMar, Kenneth Gentry, James Jordan, Peter Leithart, Keith Mathison, Crispin H.T. Fletcher-Louis, Hank Hanegraaff, and N.T. Wright teach that the passing away of heaven and earth or world of Matt. 5:17–18; 24:3, 29, 35; 1 Cor. 7:31; II Peter 3; I Jn. 2:17–18; Rev. 21:1) refers to the destruction of the temple or to the civil and religious worlds of men—either Jews or Gentiles; and that the rulers of the OC system or world, along with the temple, were the “sun, moon, and stars,” which made up the “heaven and earth” of the world that perished in AD 70 (cf. John Owen, The Works of John Owen, 16 vols. (London: The Banner of Truth Trust, 1965–68), 9:134–135. Isn’t it ironic that a Full Preterist can find an “orthodox” Reformed or Evangelical preterist interpretation of virtually every “end of the world” passage in the NT as referring not to the physical planet, but to the end of the OC world in AD 70, but Somehow when we consistently unite what all of their best theologians have said on the subject, we are somehow labeled “heretical”?!?

Since I don’t have time to address every “time of the end” or “end of the world” type passage in the Old and New Testaments, I will try and briefly touch upon Deuteronomy 32 and Peter’s eschatology and Daniel 12 and Jesus’ eschatology.

Deuteronomy 32 and Peter’s Eschatology

Deuteronomy 32 begins, “Listen, O heavens, and I will speak; hear, O earth, the words of my mouth…”  God is not calling physical stars and planets or rocks and trees to “listen” to what He is about to say to Israel.  The identity of the creation of the “heavens” and “earth” that will listen to God’s testimony found in the Song of Moses is further identified in verse 6.  Here Israel is once again described as God’s creation whom He had “made” and “formed.”  But where in Scripture does it tell us that God “made” and “formed” OC Israel?  Isaiah 51:15-16 makes it clear that this was done when God took Israel out of Egypt, divided the sea, and established His covenant with her at Mount Saini.

John Owen writes of Isa. 51: 15-16. “The time when the work here mentioned, of planting the heavens and laying the foundation of the earth, was performed by God was when He divided the sea (ver. 15) and gave the law (ver. 16), and said to Zion, Thou art my people; that is, when He took the children of Israel out of Egypt, and formed them in the wilderness into a church and state; then He planted the heavens and laid the foundation of the earth: that is, brought forth order, and government, and beauty from the confusion wherein before they were. This is the planting of the heavens and laying the foundation of the earth in the world. And since it is that when mention is made of the destruction of a state and government, it is in that language which seems to set forth the end of the world.”

The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge agrees,

“The heavens. ‘Heaven’ and ‘earth’ are here put by symbolic language for a political universe. That is, that I might make those who were but scattered persons and slaves in Egypt before, a kingdom and polity, to be governed by their own laws and magistrates.” (Jerome Smith, The New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge Revised and Expanded, Thomas Nelson Publishers, p. 802).

Moses tells the “heavens” and “earth” of Old Covenant Israel that in “due time” (v. 35) He will bring an “end” to her (v. 20).  This end is described as a judgment of consuming fire that will burn her “earth” and “mountains” (v. 22).  He informs Israel in verses 5, 20, and 35 that her “end” will be “near” when a very specific perverse or crooked generation arrives.  Peter in Acts 2:40 quotes from Deut. 32:5 and informs us that it is his contemporary generation (that crucified their Messiah) which fulfills this specific generation that Moses spoke of, and therefore, they needed to be saved from the coming judgment attended by the “Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord” (Acts 2:20-21, 40).  Peter confirms the timing of Deuteronomy 32:5, 20, 35 once again when under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit he writes to the church in Jerusalem, that “the end of all things is near” (1 Pet. 4:5-7).  He confirms that the prophetic material Moses and the other prophets spoke of was “ready” to be revealed and to be fulfilled in the days of his contemporaries (cf. 1 Pet. 1).  Since 2 Peter is a “reminder” of the things he wrote in 1 Peter, the imminent inheritance and “the end of all things being near” in 1 Peter applies to the Day of the Lord and the passing of the old heavens and earth and the arrival of the new in 2 Peter 3.

Reformed theologians such as John Owen and John Lightfoot along with many others, correctly understood the “elements” here not as the rocks and tress of the planet earth, but of the old-covenant law and the “Day of the Lord” occurring in A.D. 70.  John Owen stated of our passage here,

“Peter tells them, that, after the destruction and judgment that he speaks of, verse 13, ‘We,

according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth,’ etc. ‘They had this expectation. But what is that promise? Where may we find it? Why, we have it in the very words and letter, Isa. Lxv. 17. Now, when shall this be that God will create these ‘new heavens and new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness?’ Saith Peter, ‘It shall be after the coming of the Lord, after that judgment and destruction of ungodly men, who obey not the gospel, that I foretell.’ But now it is evident, from this place of Isaiah, with chap. Lxvi., 21, 22 that this is a prophecy of gospel times only; and that the planting of these new heavens is nothing but the creation of gospel ordinances, to endure for ever. The same thing is so expressed, Heb. Xii. 26-28. Let others mock at the threats of Christ’s coming. – he will come, he will not tarry; and then the heavens and earth that God himself planted, – the sun, moon, stars of the Judaical polity and church, – the whole old world of worship and worshippers, that stand out in their obstinacy against the Lord Christ, – shall be sensibly dissolved and destroyed. This, we know, shall be the end of these things, and that shortly.’”

And John Lightfoot agrees,

“‘The heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat,’ &c. Compare this with Deut. 32:22, Heb. 12:26: and observe that by elements are understood the Mosaic elements, Gal. 4:9, Col. 2:20: and you will not doubt see that Peter speaks only of the conflagration of Jerusalem, the destruction of the nation, and the abolishing the dispensation of Moses.”

Notice how both Owen and Lightfoot state clearly the old creation and the new in our passage “only” refer to the passing of two covenantal worlds by the “Day of the Lord” in A.D.70. The text is in no way discussing the passing and re-creating of the planet earth.

The Benson Commentary confirms that the burning of the “earth” and “mountains” here in Deuteronomy 32 was fulfilled in AD 70,

And set on fire the foundations of the mountains — That is, subvert their strongest fortresses, yea, Jerusalem itself, founded on the holy mountains [that being 7], which was perfectly fulfilled in its destruction by Titus. And, according to Josephus, Titus himself, though a heathen, saw and acknowledged the hand of God in the affair.”

Deuteronomy 32:29 reads, “If only they were wise and would understand this and discern what their end will be!

Amazingly the “Jewish Zionist” will tell us that Jesus’ couldn’t have been the Messiah, because most of Israel rejected him and his kingdom.  And yet here in their own Scriptures it was predicted that most of them would not be able to “discern” what their “end” would be!

Verse 43 – “Rejoice, you nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants…”

Jesus clearly taught that He would avenge the blood of the martyrs at His “coming” to destroy the Temple in the AD 30 – AD 70 “generation” (Mt. 23:32-39).  If judgment fell upon the living Pharisees of that generation for all the blood they collectively shed of the dead martyrs (going as far back to Genesis), then that means that the judgment and resurrection for the living and the dead must have occurred then.  And that is exactly what Peter confirms was “ready” and “near” to take place in his time:  “But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.  “The end of all things is near.”  (1 Peter 1:5, 7).

Daniel 12 and Jesus’ Eschatology

While Jesus uses many OT references in His Olivet Discourse, it becomes clear that the book of Daniel is His primary reference.

Daniel interchanges “the time of the end” with simply “the end” in Daniel 12.  But notice it is the “time of the end” and not the “end of time” as so many assume Daniel is teaching.  This begs the question as to what “time period” then is Daniel predicting “the end” of?  It clearly is connected to the destruction of Jerusalem i.e. – “when the power of the holy people is completely shattered” in verse 7.

Jesus makes Daniel’s “time of the end” prophecy clearer.  In Matthew 24, Jesus interchanges the “end of the age” with simply “the end.” The context makes it abundantly clear that “the end of the age” is inseparably connected to the signs, Christ’s Second Coming, and the destruction of the Temple they were looking at – both in the disciples question and then how Jesus answers it.  Contextually, the destruction of the Temple they were looking at is the epitome of the “end” of the Old Covenant age and has nothing to do with the end of planet earth, world history, or the end of the New Covenant age (which Paul says “has no end” Ephs. 3:20-21).  In verse 34 Jesus answers the disciples questions and tells them that it was their “this generation” that would not pass away until ALL THESE THINGS (that is — the signs, His coming, and the end of the age) were fulfilled.

The “end of the [OC] age” is connected with the de-creation language of the stars falling, in Matthew 24:29.  Stars in the Bible can be symbolic of religious or civil rulers.  In Matthew 23, Jesus pronounced 7 wows upon the Pharisees and told them that He was going to come and judge them for killing the prophets He would send to them and destroy their house/Temple in their generation.  Here in the next chapter in Matthew 24 the same coming in judgment, on the same house/Temple is in view, and upon the same generation.  Except now the Pharisees are being described as “stars” being cast down by God – falling from their places of authority when He comes to destroy Jerusalem in AD 70.

John L. Bray points out that, the “Jewish writers understood the light to mean the law; the moon, the Sanhedrin; and the stars, the Rabbis.” (John Bray, Matthew 24 Fulfilled, p.125).

But what of “Heaven and earth” passing away in verse 35?   Gary DeMar makes the contextual flow between the de-creation language in the previous context with “heaven and earth” passing away in verse 35:

“The darkening of the sun and moon and the falling of the stars, coupled with the shaking of the heavens (24:29), are more descriptive ways of saying that “heaven and earth will pass away” (24:35). In other contexts, when stars fall, they fall to the earth, a sure sign of temporal judgment (Isaiah 14:12; Daniel 8:10; Revelation 6:13; 9:1; 12:4).  So then, the “passing away of heaven and earth” is the passing away of the old covenant world of Judaism led and upheld by those who “crucified the Lord of glory” (1 Corinthians 2:8).”

G.K. Beale concedes that the Jew understood his OC connected to the land and Temple as being “heaven and earth:

“…that ‘heaven and earth’ in the Old Testament may sometimes be a way of referring to Jerusalem or its temple, for which ‘Jerusalem’ is a parallel or metonymy.” (G.K. Beale, The Temple and the Church’s Mission A biblical theology of the dwelling place of God, (Downers Grove, Illinois: Inter Varsity Press, 2004), 25). See also J.V. Fesko, Last things first Unlocking Genesis 1-3 with the Christ of Eschatology, (Scottland, UK, 2007), 70.

So the land of Jerusalem and or her Temple were considered by the Jews of Jesus’ day to be “heaven and earth.”

One of Beale’s co-authors begins making theses logical and exegetical connections (giving preterist interpretations in the NT), where Beale doesn’t.  Evangelical Crispin H.T. Fletcher-Louis makes the following comments on Mark 13:31/Matthew 24:35:

“The temple was far more than the point at which heaven and earth met. Rather, it was thought to correspond to, represent, or, in some sense, to be ‘heaven and earth’ in its totality.” And “. . . [T]he principle reference of “heaven and earth” is the temple centered cosmology of second-temple Judaism which included the belief that the temple is heaven and earth in microcosm. Mark 13[:31] [or Matthew 24:35] and Matthew 5:18 refer then to the destruction of the temple as a passing away of an old cosmology. (Crispin H.T. Fletcher-Louis a contributing author in, ESCHATOLOGY in Bible & Theology Evangelical Essays at the Dawn of a New Millennium, (Downers Grove, Illinois: Inter Varsity Press, 1997), 157).

James Jordan writes,

“each time God brought judgment on His people during the Old Covenant, there was a sense in which an old heavens and earth was replaced with a new one: New rulers were set up, a new symbolic world model was built (Tabernacle, Temple), and so forth.”(7) The New Covenant replaces the Old Covenant with new leaders, a new priesthood, new sacraments, a new sacrifice, a new tabernacle (John 1:14), and a new temple (John 2:19; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 2:21). In essence, a new heaven and earth.

Jesus is simply stating that although the “heaven and earth” of the OC Temple system will pass away within their generation, His “words” (that is the words of the NC heaven and earth, which will replace it – implied), will “never pass away.”

When we talk about the new heavens and earth, the land, and Temple promises, they are all rolled up together from the early chapters of Genesis to Revelation 21-22.

Interestingly enough, Dispensationalists like John Sailhamer connect Adam in the land of Eden with Israel in the Promised Land not just theologically, but physically:

“The garden of Eden extended from the “river that flows through all the land of Cush” to the “River Euphrates.” Since in Genesis the land of Cush is linked to Egypt (Genesis 10:6), the second river, the Gihon (Genesis 2:13), was apparently understood by the author as “the river of Egypt.”  “…When we move to Genesis 15, we find that the land promised to Abraham – the promised land – is marked off by these same two rivers, the Euphrates and the River of Egypt (Genesis 15:18). Note that the area marked off by these two rivers in Genesis 15 is essentially the same region covered by the garden of Eden in Genesis 2. When the general boundaries are compared, it becomes clear that the writer of the Pentateuch intends us to identify the two locations with each other. God’s promise of the land to the patriarchs is thus textually linked to His original “blessing” of all humanity in the garden of Eden.” (John Sailhamer, GENESIS UNBOUND, Multnomah Books, 1996, see pp. 50-51, 72).

The Inner Courtyard, Holy Place and Most Holy Place of the Land of Eden

Adam was formed from the dust of Eden (the inner courtyard) and “put” in the Garden (Holy Place). The Hebrew word for “put” in (Gen. 2:15) elsewhere in the O.T. has to do with God’s “rest” and “safety” for the Israelites in the Promised Land and the “dedication” of something before the Lord (Gen.19:16; Deut. 3:20; 12:10; 25:19; Ex.16:33-34; Lev.16:23; Num.17:4; Deut. 26:4, 10 “under the altar” – Jewish “first-fruits” Christians and martyrs under the “altar” Rev. 6 & 20). The idea is that like Israel, God put Adam in His presence to test him. If He obeyed law in the Garden he would be rewarded with God’s presence and experience His blessings of protection. If he disobeyed, he would covenatally and spiritually die and be driven eastward out of God’s presence.

The Aramaic translation of (Gen.2:15) reads, “to toil in the Law and to observe it’s commandments.” Sailhamer translates the Hebrew and grammar of this text as, “to worship and obey” (Sailhmer, ibid., p.76). The idea being that Adam was commissioned to serve and worship God in the Garden and guard the area from unclean intruders – such as the serpent. When these two words are used together in the O.T. they reflect this meaning and refer to the priests and Israel keeping God’s law and the priests having the authority (equipped with swords) to slay intruders (like the cherubim were equipped with flaming swords). When Israel would not “keep” the law and would “serve” other god’s they were banished into exile from the sanctuary/land as Adam and Cain were (1Kings 9:1).

The priestly Temple system for Israel required two daily sacrifices – one in the morning and another in the evening – or in the “cool of the day” (2 Kings 16:15-16; 1 Chron. 16:39-40; 2 Chron. 2:4).  Adam is pictured as the High Priest of Israel going into the MHP “presence of the Lord” to be tested and commissioned to pray, worship, and fellowship or offer up the sacrifice (so to speak) in the “cool of the day.”  After Adam fails to keep law and covenant with God, he dies spiritually the very day he sins against God.  He is driven eastward from God’s MHP and HP presence where he eventually dies physically some 900 years later “in the dust” or within the inner courtyard from where he originated.

The Outer Court – Land of the Gentiles

Sticking with the Temple imagery in (Gen.1-4), Cain is banished and cursed even further eastward than Adam, to live completely outside of the Land of Eden (or the outer court of the Gentiles – the people of Nod Gen. 4). The ancient city of Babel also resided eastward in the out-court of Eden, as did the enslaving power of Babylon in relation to Israel’s Promised Land.  The Jew understood the nations outside her Temple and land (“heaven and earth”) needing to humbly come through her gates and embrace the God of Israel.  Once a proselyte, the Jews announced the person a “new creation.”

Israel as a Corporate Adam & the Old Covenant System as Heaven and Earth

Like Adam, when Israel sinned and broke covenant with God, she too died spiritually (Hosea 13).  When Israel repented and exercised faith in Jehovah, she was gathered back into the land and it was described as a spiritual and covenantal resurrection (Ezek. 37).

So to live in disobedience to God’s law meant to be scattered from the Promised Land, Jerusalem, and the Temple (in the Jewish mindset being “heaven and earth”) which was to undergo spiritual death, and reside in darkness and separation from God.  But to be “gathered” into the land, Jerusalem, and to the Temple, was to undergo a spiritual resurrection, and reside in the light and fellowship of God’s presence or become a “new creation.”

Once we reach Revelation 21-22 the concept of the Land of Eden, the Promised Land, Jerusalem, and Temple, are all rolled up together again.  The New Jerusalem (that is the Church) is a perfect cube (cf. Rev. 21:16) or Most Holy Place that was in the process of coming down (Rev. 3:12NIV).  Within the New Jerusalem the presence of God (the Tree of Life / Jesus) is restored to man, with her gates being open to heal the nations through the gospel (the sword of the spirit).

So the land of Eden / sanctuary, the Promised Land, Jerusalem, and the Temple were physical TYPES and shadows pointing us to the spiritual and “better” NC promises found in Christ and His Church — described as a heavenly land, New Jerusalem / Nation, and Temple, whereby God has restored and established His presence on earth within His people. We often hear people ask us, “well, what now?”  Well this is where we are and it is glorious!  If you are not excited about having your sins forgiven, God’s presence restored, and sharing the gospel, then go buy a Hal Lindsey book for 25 cents at a garage sale – I don’t know what to tell you.

As Christians and a kingdom of priests and kings living in the new heavens and earth / new Jerusalem — partaking of the Tree of Life (Jesus eternal life), let God smell the sweet aroma of our sacrifices of praise early in the morning and evening.  Invite the sinners that live in darkness outside our glorious City / new heavens and earth – to enter through faith and become a “new creation” “In Christ.”

Concluding Questions for our “literal” Zionist and Dispensational Zionist friends on the nature of the “new heavens and earth” of Isaiah 65-66 and Revelation 21-22:

  1. If everything is “literally” “perfect” in the new heavens and earth and there is no crying there, then why is there – physical death (Isa. 65:20)? Will people cry when people die in the New Creation?  Why is there physical work and labor in building houses and farmland? (Isa. 65:21-23) there?  Will they sweat, and will they cry if they hit their finger with a hammer?   Why is child birth taking place in the New Creation (Isa. 65:23?  Will the mothers cry and be in pain when they are giving birth?  Why are there still sinners and evangelism taking place in the New Creation per Isaiah 66; and Rev. 21:22-27; 22:14-17?  The New Creation comes AFTER the Second Coming, Millennium, and judgment and resurrection of the dead, and yet there remains sinners and evangelism taking place in the New Creation.  This is no small problem for the hyper-literalist Middle East eschatologies that are battling it out in order to establish this “perfect” “paradise” on earth.
  1. If God literally killed all the animals on the planet in a global flood per the Dispensational Zionist view, and God promised to never again destroy all the living animals on the planet, then why will God again kill all the animals on the planet when he someday burns up the elements of planet earth?
  1. Doesn’t the Bible seem to teach that “A generation goes and a generation comes, but the earth remains forever”? (Eccl. 1:4). And “of the increase of Christ’s Kingdom, there will be no end” – right ? (Isa. 9:6-7).
  1. If the Day of the Lord and the resurrection of the dead takes place at the end of history when the planet will be renewed, then why didn’t Paul just respond this way to those that believed the Day of the Lord and the resurrection had already taken place — “Hey man how can you believe something so silly, the earth has burned up has it? We are all here aren’t we?  The tombs are still full aren’t they?

2).  Sacred space – How the Abrahamic promises were typologically fulfilled in the OT and how they are fulfilled spiritually in the NT.

In Genesis and Exodus God promises Abraham that through his descendants that he would form:  1.  a great nation, 2.  He will give them a land, and 3.  through Abraham’s seed the nations would be blessed.

Promise #1:  God promised Abraham that through him he would form a great nation – to be as numerous as the stars in the sky, the dust of the earth, and as numerous as sand on the seashore.

In Genesis 46:3 God tells Jacob or Israel to “not be afraid to go down to Egypt,” because He was going to “make him a great nation there.”

Fulfillment:  Then in Deuteronomy 10:22 we read of the fulfillment – “Your fathers went down to Egypt seventy persons in all, and now the Lord has made you as numerous as the stars of heaven.”

Acts 7:17 “But as the time of the promise was approaching which God had assured to Abraham, the people increased and multiplied in Egypt.”

Heb. 11:11-12  “even Sarah received ability to conceive…since she considered Him faithful who had promised; therefore, also, there was born of one man, and him as good as dead at that, as many descendants as the stars of heaven in number, and innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.”

Let’s remember what John Hagee in his book, Final Dawn Over Jerusalem said – he said that the Abrahamic promise to make a people as “the stars in the sky” is referring to the Church (God’s heavenly people), and “the sand on the seashore” is referring to Israel or the Jews (Gods earthly people).  But here in Deuteronomy 10:22 not only has the promise to make Abraham’s descendants as numerous as the stars, already been fulfilled, but it is applied to Israel, and not the church (per Hagee).

Promise #2:  God promised Abraham that through his descendants he would inherit a land.  In (Genesis 15:18) we learn what the boundaries of the land promise entail, “On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram and said, ‘To your descendants I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates.’”

Abraham does not have to be literally resurrected and placed in the literal land of Israel for a literal 1,000 year millennial period, brought about by a future physical coming of Jesus, in order for this promise to Abraham and his descendants to be fulfilled.  As we will see shortly, It’s through his descendants, through Christ, and then through believers in Jesus that this promise is fulfilled.

Evangelical Zionists argue:

Since Israel never inherited all the land God promised to Abraham and his descendants, we need to financially and politically support modern Israel in taking as much of it back as possible (even if this means military action and killing Christian Arabs).

Scriptural response:

Joshua 21:43-45 reads, “So the LORD gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their ancestors, and they took possession of it and settled there. The LORD gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their ancestors. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the LORD gave all their enemies into their hands. Not one of all the LORD’s good promises to Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.”

In 2 Samuel 8:3-4 we learn that King David “went to restore his control along the Euphrates River” which means the kingdom had extended this far north.

1 Kings 4:20-21: “The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore (this means he understood this to be a fulfillment of the Abrahamic promise); they ate, they drank and they were happy. “And Solomon ruled over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These countries brought tribute and were Solomon’s subjects all his life.”

1 Kings 8:56: “Praise be to the LORD, who has given rest to his people Israel just as he promised. Not one word has failed of all the good promises he gave through his servant Moses.

Neh. 9:7-8, 24: “You are the LORD God, who chose Abram and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldeans and named him Abraham. You found his heart faithful to you, and you made a covenant with him to give to his descendants the land of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites. You have kept your promise because you are righteous.” “Their children went in and took possession of the land. You subdued before them the Canaanites, who lived in the land; you gave the Canaanites into their hands, along with their kings and the peoples of the land, to deal with them as they pleased.”

Promise #3:  The inspired NT authors state the seed promise made to Abraham is fulfilled in Christ and the Church:

Acts 3:25-26 “It is you who are the sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, `And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed. For you first, God raised up His Servant, and sent Him to bless you by turning every one {of you} from your wicked ways.”

Acts 13:32-33,38 “we preach to you the good news of the promise made to the fathers, that God has fulfilled this promise to our children in that He raised up Jesus…that through Him forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.”

Gal 3:8-9 “And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “All the nations shall be blessed in you.” So then those who are of faith are blessed with Abraham, the believer.”

Gal 3:18 “For if the inheritance is based on law, it is no longer based on a promise; but God has granted it to Abraham by means of a promise.”

Gal 3:29 “if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.”

Gentiles Inherited the Land Too – Typological of Jew/Gentile Inheritance “in Christ”

It is important to note at this point that the Gentiles also partook of both Exoduses and land inheritances under Moses and Joshua and then again under Ezra and Nehemiah which functioned as types of Christ gathering Jew and Gentile into Himself in the Messianic kingdom or heavenly land. The “gathering” of the exiles from Babylon a second time “from the four corners of the earth” of Isaiah 11 is the same time the exiles are gathered from “out of all countries” in Jeremiah (compare Isa. 11:11-12 / Jer. 32:37).  And yet Jesus applies the “gathering” of Isaiah 11 and Isaiah 27 to His Second Coming to close the OC age in AD 70 (Mt. 24:30-31).  Paul sees the Messianic banner fulfillment beginning in the salvation of the Gentiles during his day in Rom. 15:12, but nonetheless, a “salvation” that was “at hand” (Rms. 13:11-12).

Paul affirms that all the OT promises of God are “yes and amen” “in Christ” (2 Cor. 1:20).  The Pulpit Commentary correctly writes of this verse, “All the promises of God find in him their unchangeable fulfilment. He was “a minister to confirm the promises” alike to the Jews and the Gentiles (Romans 15:8, 9); and “the promise of the eternal inheritance” can only be fulfilled in him (Hebrews 9:15).”  While the OT’s emphasis is on OC Israel receiving blessings and an “inheritance” found “in the land,” which at times required physical and military might to secure, the NT’s emphasis for the NC “Israel of God” is to be found “in Christ” (a phrase Paul uses some 66 times in the NT), and is not to be advanced through the literal sword, but rather through the sword of the spirit (that is the gospel).

God placed Israel at the center of the Gentile nations as a light to those outside the covenant with Abraham.  But even in the OT, Gentiles were allowed to partake in covenant with God – being circumcised, worshipping Jehovah through the sacrificial system, and even living and inheriting land God promised to Israel.

The Exodus was not just to deliver Israel from the bondage of Egypt, but to demonstrate God’s power and glory to all nations and have His name “proclaimed in all the earth” (Exodus 9:14, 16).  In chapter twelve we learn that some Egyptians did see God’s power and believed in Jehovah and formed the “mixed multitude [that] went up with” the children of Israel (Ex. 12:38). Therefore, they along with Israel, experienced deliverance from Pharaoh at the Red Sea.  They were present at the giving of the law when God shook Mount Sinai.  They were with the Hebrews when together they were “baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea” eating from the same manna and drinking from the same water which flowed from the rock (both of which pointed to Messiah/Christ John 6; 1 Cor. 10:1-4, 11).  They along with the Hebrews came “out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt” and became for the LORD “…a people of inheritance” (cf. Deut. 4:20; 1 Kings 8:51; Jer. 11:4).

It was a common practice in Israel that an adopted heir could inherit the land:  “A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren,” (Proverbs 17:2).  Even a famous “Jewish” Rabbil, Rashi comments on this verse:  “A righteous proselyte is better than a wicked person who was home born, and in the future, he will share the spoils and the inheritance among the children of Israel, as it is said (Ezek. 47:23): “And it shall be, in whatever tribe the stranger will live, etc,…”

I agree with biblical scholars whom see Ezekiel 47:21-23 referring first to the scattered remnant of the 12 Tribes of Israel and believing Gentiles inheriting the land under Ezra and Nehemiah after a second exodus of 70 years of captivity under Babylon.  Gentiles inheriting the land was consistent with the law of Moses, “When an alien lives with you in your land, do no mistreat him.  The alien living with you must be treated as one of your native-bornLove him as yourself, for you were aliens in Egypt.  I am the LORD your God” (Lev. 19:33-34).

Therefore, even early on God sees believing Gentiles as “a people of inheritance” partaking in Israel’s deliverance, redemption, and salvation promises which help create a covenant people in the land, “as numerous as the sand on the seashore” (participating in the fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant).  Both believing Jews and Gentiles were involved in helping rebuild Jerusalem’s walls and build up the Temple during the restoration leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah.  This all served as typological fulfillments of what God was going to do spiritually in gathering believing Jews and Gentiles “in Christ” under Messiah and building up His spiritual Temple in the coming New Covenant age.

Let’s Talk Redemptive Typology and the Messianic Expectation During Jesus’ Day

The Rabbi’s believed that when Messiah would come He would recapitulate Israel’s past redemptive historical events in a type v. anti-type way.  Some even admitted that Messiah needed to come before the Temple would be destroyed in (Dan. 9:24-27) – in AD 70.  Jesus fulfills this Messianic view perfectly!

There are two main periods of 400 years of the the Holy Spirit and miracles being dormant before deliverance, restoration, and miracles begin.

  1. Type – Israel is in bondage to Egypt for roughly 400 years. Deliverance and miracles follow for 65 years under Moses and Joshua.
  1. Anti-type – From Malachi to the birth of John the Baptist and Jesus is another period of about 400 years before the Holy Spirit is poured out and restoration begins for another period of 65 – 70 years of miracles.

Perhaps there is a third significant 400 year time period when it comes to the transition of Tabernacle – to Temple – to Messianic NC Temple.  There was roughly a 400 year time period of Israel being in the land with the Tabernacle, before God told Solomon to build the Temple.

Between Malachi to Messiah, was roughly 400 years before there would be a transition of a literal Temple structure to a NC Spiritual fulfillment of the Temple system – Christ being the Chief Cornerstone.

There are 3 main periods of an outpouring of miracles in the Bible characterized by periods of 65-70 years:

  1. Types – Moses & Joshua (1445-1380 BC), roughly 65 years.
  1. Types – Elijah and Elisha (860-795 BC), about 65 years. Elijah being a Gentile pictures and foreshadows the Holy Spirit being poured out upon on flesh in the book of Acts.
  1. Anti-type – Christ and the Apostles (Christ’s birth – AD 66-AD 70), roughly from 65-70 years. Jesus is the greater prophet than Moses or any previous prophet, and those that did not heed His words were “cut off” when He came from heaven in AD 70 and judged them (Deut. 18 / Acts 2-3).  Daniel foretold that when Jerusalem would be destroyed in AD 70, the office of prophet would be “sealed up” (Dan. 9:24-27).  At the AD 70 “soon” coming of Christ, when the Church would be matured and stood complete and independent from the OC system – the gift of prophecy would “cease” (1 Cor. 1:5-8; 13:8-12/Rev. 21:4-7).

There are 2 main periods of the remnant being saved / protected / delivered characterized by a period of 65-70 years.

  1. Type – 65 years is given before Jerusalem is judged by Assyria, but the remnant protected.
  1. Type – 70 years of captivity through Babylonian judgment before a remnant of Jews and Gentiles come to inherit the land and rebuild the Temple brought about by Cyrus, Ezra, and Nehemiah (all types of Christ as well). God being a spiritual Temple in the midst of the captives and Gentiles being able to inherit land as well – points them to what the spiritual Temple will look like under Messiah (Amos 9 / Acts 15; 1 Pet. 2:4ff.; Ephs. 2:19-20).
  1. Anti-type – Between birth of Messiah/Jesus to judgment upon Jerusalem in AD 70 is about a period of 65-70 years by which a Jewish remnant of believers in Messiah are saved at Christ’s Second Coming / Parousia to close the last days of the OC age in AD 70. In Revelation, OC Jerusalem is described as God’s and Israel’s OT enemies such as Egypt and Babylon.  The believing remnant in Messiah is to “come out from her (Babylon)” and they did – fleeing to Pella as Messiah prophesied (cf. Mt. 24:15-20, 34 / Lk. 21:20-32).

There are two significant 40 years or generation periods.

  1. Type – Wilderness wandering generation (Heb. 3-4).
  1. Anti-type – From AD 30 – AD 70 Jesus/Messiah is the Rock and Mamma from heaven and those that reject this message do not inherit the heavenly land/city that was “about to come” at His “in a very little while” Second Coming to close the last days of the OC age in AD 70 (Deut. 32:5, 20; Acts 2:40; Mt. 24:34; Heb. 3-4, 9:26-27–13:14YLT).

There are three kings of Israel that reigned over fleshly Israel for roughly 40 years.

  1. Type – David lived for 70 and reigned for 40 years (a man of war).
  1. Type – Solomon reigned for 40 years (a man of wisdom and peace).
  1. Anti-type – Jesus was enthroned in AD 30 and reigned over fleshly Israel to AD 70 whereby He saved the remnant and Gentile “Israel of God” and placed His enemies under His feet and burned them when He came “in a very little while” (Heb. 10:13-37). Jesus is a King of war (Lion) and the embodiment of wisdom and peace (wise as a serpent and gentle as a dove and lamb).

Adam a Type of Christ

The Jews that believed the “days of Messiah” would be 70 years did so because they saw Messiah finishing what Adam couldn’t. This is speculation on my part, but perhaps some interesting meditations non the less.

  1. Type – Adam failed to inherit eternal life and returned to the dust at 930 years.
  1. Anti-type – From Christ’s birth as Israel’s King and Messiah to His parousia in AD 70 is roughly 70 years (Adam 930 + Christ in flesh & spirit 70 = 1,000). Those who trusted in Jesus from His birth to His parousia, were brought through the 1,000 years millennial period and into the New Creation to inherit eternal life and partake of Jesus as the Tree of Life. Jesus as the last Adam is faithful and completes what Adam could not, in restoring God’s presence on earth to His posterity.

40, 70, and 120 Cubits in Solomon’s Temple

Again, admittedly there is an element of speculation here.  Solomon’s Temple was to be measured out to be 70 cubits in length with the Holy Place being 40 cubits in length.

70 – I believe the total length of 70 cubits (10 porche, 40 HP, and 20 MHP) represents the table of 70 nations in Genesis 10-11. Israel was originally commissioned to be a light to the Gentiles and thus have salvation be brought to them.  In some sense she represents the nations in that Jacob’s family members were 70 when they went into Egypt before becoming a “great nation,” and God set up 70 elders to assist Moses, perhaps to demonstrate her covenant rule and headship over the nations through Torah? Then Jesus sending out the 70 disciples to preach the gospel of the kingdom represented how He and the Church would form the restored Israel of God ruling over the nations through the gospel. Either way, Israel failed in her mission to the 70 nations and the 70 bulls sacrificed (cf. Num. 29:12-34) on the feast of booths were to picture that salvation was to be extended to them.

Possibly, the High Priest’s journey of walking 70 cubits on the Day of Atonement, represents and pictures Messiah’s presence and redemptive work among Israel form His birth to parousia (70 years)? Christ as the High Priest and perfect sacrifice is the ONLY “Hope of the nations.”

In Acts 2 we see Babel being restored in that Jews from all nations under heaven were gathered, and the language of the one gospel miraculously unites those of differing languages. They eventually go back to these nations and spread the gospel forming one “elect and holy nation” in the Kingdom.

40 – The 40 cubits of the Holy Place possibly represented the 40 years of wilderness wandering and reigns of David and Solomon. In Hebrews 9 we learn that the OC economy was represented by the Holy Place and the NC economy by the Most Holy Place. When the “first” (the Holy Place) was removed in AD 70, full access to the “second” (the Most Holy Place) was granted. This is what we see in Revelation 21:16 where the New Jerusalem is a perfect cube or the Most Holy Place presence — whereby God and His people are restored in fellowship here on earth today in the NC age.

The 40 cubits represent the roughly AD 30 – AD 70 40 year’s transitional generation time period, whereby Christ as the great High Priest ascended and then returned a second time apart from sin and applied His salvation to the eagerly awaiting congregation.

120 – The height of the Holy Place of Solomon’s Temple was 120 cubits.  I may be wrong, but to me this may be a way of the Israelites depicting Moses living to be 120 years old – falling short of inheriting the Promised Land.  Remember, according to Hebrews 9 the “first” section (the Holy Place) represents the OC economy and Moses House.  The law in and of itself could not bring us into the inheritance or the MHP presence of God.  Jesus being the greater prophet prepares a better house (Most Holy Place) for us to inherit – and it is that Most Holy Place cube of the New Jerusalem that was in the process of coming down between AD 30 – AD 70 and did at His parousia in AD 70 (Rev. 3:12NIV—21:16).   The Holy Place therefore was Moses house – temporary, transitional (40 & 120), and not able to bring us into the inheritance (the Promised Land / or the promise of the Most Holy Place – paradise restored).

The interpretation of the Mosaic Law is also represented by the number 120.  Ezra helped organize the copying and formation of the inspired OT Scriptures by bringing 120 elders (priests and Levites) together to form the Great Synagogue (or Great Assembly).

Perhaps the Holy Spirit filling and guiding the 120 disciples in the book of Acts pictures the Church functioning now as the new Sanhedrin (Acts 1:14-26)?  That is, the early Spirit filled Church is seen as miraculously equipped and has divine authority from God to demonstrate how all of God’s promises in the law and prophets were being fulfilled in Christ and those that placed their faith in him (ex. Acts 15 / Amos 9).  The theme of the book of Acts is HOW God’s promises made to Israel were being fulfilled (not postponed per the Dispensational system) through the Church (God’s new Israel and elect holy nation).

Here are parallels of the New Exodus theme:

  1. An edict was sent out to kill the male children during the time of Moses (Exodus1:22) and an edict was issued by Herod to kill the male children in hopes of killing Jesus (Matthew 2:16).
  1. After killing the Egyptian Moses fled to Midian until the wrath of the king passed (Exodus 2:15) and Joseph and Mary, fled with Jesus to Egypt until the wrath of the king passed (Matthew 2:14).
  1. God called Moses back to his country to be his people’s deliverer (Exodus 3:10) just as Jesus was called back to His country (Matthew 2:20) to be their deliverer.
  1. God kept Moses 40 days in the wilderness before giving the law on a mountain (Deut. 9:11; Exodus19) and He likewise kept Jesus 40 days in the wilderness before placing Him on a mount to give the New Covenant law and thus the true interpretation of the old (Matthew 4:1-chapter 5). Both received glory on top of a mountain. While being tested by Satan for 40 days Jesus quotes three scriptures found in the Exodus wilderness testing: (Matthew 4:4/Deut. 8:3; Matthew 4:7/Deut. 6:16; Matthew 4:10/Deut. 6:13 & Deut 10:20).
  1. God through Moses appointed 70 elders (Numbers 11:16) and Jesus appointed 70 disciples (Luke 10:1). Old Covenant Israel consisted of 12 tribes and Jesus forms the restored Israel with an inner core of 12 disciples.
  1. God’s Old Covenant people were delivered from His judgment upon Egypt by the first Passover. This deliverance was substitutional in nature and was brought about through the shedding of a lamb’s blood. God’s New Covenant people were delivered from the wrath (“His blood be upon us and our children”) that would be poured out upon Jerusalem / Egypt / Revelation 11:8 through the New Covenant Passover blood of Jesus (the lamb of God). In the first exodus the death of “first born” of humans and animals were to appease God’s wrath. In the New Covenant exodus Jesus is both the “first born” and the “Lamb.”
  1. In God forming Old Covenant Israel during this time it was a creating of the heavens and earth (Isa.51:15-16). Through the cross and parousia of Jesus a New Covenant heavens and earth were being created and would replace the former Old Covenant one “shortly” (Isaiah 65-66; Matthew 5:17-18; Matthew 24:35; 2 Peter 3; and Revelation 21-22).
  1. In the formation of Old Covenant Israel, God was bringing about deliverance from the physical bondage and slavery of Egypt. In the New Covenant transitionary period, God was creating and delivering a remnant of New Covenant Israel out from the spiritual bondage and slavery of the Old Covenant “elements of the world” which was the law.
  1. Fifty days after the first Passover and the giving of the law (Exodus 19) 3,000 died for idolatry (Exodus 32:28). Fifty days after the Passover in Jesus’ blood 3,000 are saved and filled with the Spirit (Acts 2).
  1. There was a miraculous outpouring of the Spirit’s work in building the Old Covenant tabernacle (Exodus 31:1-11). The AD 30 – 70 generation also saw the miraculous work of God in profound ways. There was a miraculous outpouring of the Holy Spirit’s work in the “last days” in which the building and erecting of the spiritual New Covenant tabernacle/temple of God was taking place. The first was a physical building with the hands and the later was a spiritual building by the laying on of hands of the Apostles. The Church was and is clearly the New Covenant kingdom tabernacle or temple that was predicted by the prophets of which Jesus was the corner stone (Acts 15/Amos 9; Mark 12:10-11; Acts 4:11/Psalm118, Ephesians 2:20, 1 Peter 2:4-10/Psalm 118, Isaiah 28:16; 2 Corinthians 6:16/Ezekiel 37:26-27). Just as Micah 7:15 predicted miracles would occur in this new exodus under Messiah – so the miracles lasted until He returned to end her age and fulfill Israel’s promises (Mark 16:15-18/Matthew 28:18-20, 1 Corinthians 13:8-12).
  1. God was grieved with the unbelieving Old Covenant generation and did not allow them to enter the promised land (Heb.3:10). God was grieved with the adulterous and wicked generation of His day and did not allow them to inherit His heavenly rest in His kingdom – “In Christ” (Mark 8:31-9:1, Matthew 23:34-46, Hebrews 3-4).
  1. The wilderness wandering generation was baptized into Moses by passing through the red sea whereby they would receive a physical salvation from their persecutors. The water which did not touch them did destroy their enemies (1Corinthians 10:1-2). There likewise was a baptism of fire and persecution in which the first century Church underwent that was separating the gold (true believers) from the wood (professing believers) and would eventually burn up the persecutors (Matthew 3:11; Luke 8:13-14; 1 Corinthians 3:13; 1 Peter 4:12; 1 Thessalonians 2- 3; 2 Thessalonians 1:4-12). The children or remnant of Moses generation that went through the red sea would enter into the rest and salvation of the Promised Land. Likewise the remnant of spiritual Israel would inherit and enter the Heavenly Country “In Christ” (Hebrews 3-4, 12) with Peter describing the spiritual New Covenant salvation and entrance into the kingdom as the salvation of the “soul” (1 Peter 1:4-12).

Deuteronomy 32’s Terminal Generation

Please note Deuteronomy 32:20-22 and the NT fulfillment texts in parenthesis:

“And he said, I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end (Matthew 10:22-23, Matthew 24:3, Matthew 13:39-40, – end of the OC age) shall be: for they are a very perverse generation (Matthew 23:36, Matthew 24:34, Mark 8:38; Acts 2:40), children in whom is no faith. They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people (Romans 10:19, 11:11); I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation (Mt.21:43; 1 Peter 2:9).  For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth/land with her increase, and set on fire (2 Peter 3; Revelation 8:8) the foundations of the mountains.” (Deut. 32:20-22).

Again this “perverse generation” was prophesied in the OT to reject Christ (cf. Lk. 17:25) and thus be destroyed by Him at His coming (Lk. 17:25; 21:20-32). This is the generation Jesus addresses throughout His ministry and the one the NT authors confront and comforts in the first century concerning an imminent judgment and salvation.

There are no OT or NT passages predicting or discussing 1948, 1967 or modern day Israel!

Let’s now briefly look at some of the passages Dispensationalists think apply to the modern state of Israel.

Ezekiel 20:33-38

The context of this passage is dealing with the Babylonian captivity and has nothing to do with Israel being re-gathered back into the land in 1948! The context is that Israel was being unfaithful to God and wanted to be like the heathen nations around them. Therefore, God would take Israel out of her land in the wilderness (symbolic of the Babylonian captivity) and “purge” the wicked there so that the unbelievers would perish as God had purged the unbelieving generation under Moses in the wilderness. So this text actually teaches the opposite of what Dispensationalists say, because it would be the unbelievers who would be purged and die outside   the land and not enter it.  How is this passage teaching us that unbelievers would be re-gathered in the land of Israel in 1948 “in unbelief” is baffling to say the least!

Paul combines and applies both Isaiah 52:11 and Ezekiel 20:34 to the Church age in 2 Corinthians 6:17 which Dispensationalists claim cannot be done in any way.

Ezekiel 22:18-22

Again, the context is the “near” (vs.3-4) judgment of Israel by means of the Babylonians in B.C. 586 for their sins of spilling innocent blood and idolatry. The unbelievers are “dross” and would “melt.” This prophecy has nothing to do with God gathering Israel in the land in 1948 as a covenant gathered blessing, and it definitely does not teach a gathering of Israel in unbelief in 1948 either!

Ezekiel 36:22-24

The immediate context of this chapter is describing Israel’s sins of idolatry and her sins of blood guilt. For these reasons she was scattered into the Gentile nations and made slaves. As slaves they remained unfaithful to God and were thus a poor witness of Jehovah to the nations in which they were scattered. But God for His own great name sake would cleanse them from their sins and call them back into their land to rebuild the waste places. In type form, this prophecy (and chapter 37) was fulfilled under the restoration of Nehemiah and Ezra when the people came back into the land in repentance and began re-building the waste places of Jerusalem. There is NO contextual evidence whatsoever that there was a “re-gathering” of Israel in “unbelief” let alone any suggestion whatsoever that 1948 is the focus of this prophecy!

Ezekiel 37

Everyone agrees that the resurrection depicted in Ezekiel 37 is a “national” resurrection. In other words Israel experienced national and covenantal “death” when she was scattered from her land and experiences a “resurrection” when she is restored back into the land. Again, like chapter 36, this prophecy was partially fulfilled through typology when the two houses of Israel came back into the land under the restoration and leadership of Ezra and Nehemiah. However, both chapters contain elements of Messiah’s work of salvation (the anti-type) with the coming Messianic New Covenant.

Ezekiel 37:22-28 discusses the coming New Covenant King/Shepherd who would cause: 1) His people to possess the land, 2) establish an everlasting covenant of peace with them, 3) multiply them, and 4) “sanctify” them by establishing His “sanctuary” and “tabernacle” in their midst forever.

One King

Jesus began fulfilling the Davidic Covenant or “One King” prophecies of (Ezek. 37:22; Jer. 30:9) at His ascension (Heb. 1-2).  Every element that is required for a King to reign is given to Christ through the Church. He was seated on a throne and rules through a City and Nation—that is the Church (1 Pet. 2:9; Heb. 12; Gals. 4). The sending of the Messiah and the fulfillment of the Davidic and New Covenant is the focus of attention in (37:24ff.).

One Shepherd with one flock

Jesus would be Israel’s “one shepherd” who’s sheep would walk in His judgments and observe His teachings and do them (Ezk. 37:24). This prophecy is clearly fulfilled in the words of Jesus in John 10 and 17. Obviously OT promises made to Israel are being applied to the Church–the New Covenant fold of God! In the striking and sacrifice of the True Shepherd, the everlasting New Covenant (v. 25) seals the sheep’s/Churches salvation (Mark 14:27; Mt. 26:28; Heb. 8, 12:24, 13:20).

A New Covenant Temple, Peace and Sacrifices

The New Covenant of peace and temple motif began with Christ sending the Holy Spirit within His people. It would be competed and matured when He returned in AD 70 for them. At this time God placed His glory and everlasting peace “within” the Church who is the ultimate New Covenant fulfillment of the Temple promises (Hag. 2:9/Jn. 14). Christ and the Church are the fulfillment of Israel’s New Covenant Tabernacle / Sanctuary / Temple promises with Christ being the chief corner stone  (Isaiah 28:16; Psalm 118:22-23/“the builders rejected”/Acts 4 “YOU rejected”/Mt. 21:33-45/1Pet. 2:4 -10; Ezk. 37:27/2 Cor. 6:16; Ephs. 2:19-20; Amos 9:11-12/Acts 15:7-19).  God’s New Covenant/Temple/Kingdom plans for Israel were not postponed because of Jesus’ rejection and sacrifice (per Dispensationalism), but rather this rejection of the nation and belief of the remnant and the Gentiles established and began fulfilling God’s Kingdom promises made to Israel with Christ’s return in AD 70 bringing them to full maturity. While here in Ezekiel 37 and on the temple motif alone, we see Paul quoting Ezekiel 37:27 in 2 Corinthians 6:16 and applying this prophecy to the Church! But Dispensationalists seem oblivious to the hermeneutic of Paul and have created their own hyper-literal system.

Mark 13:28-29 – 1948?

If Israel is the fulfillment of the leaves coming out of the “fig tree” and thus God’s “super-sign” for our generation and fulfills the events of 1948, then what is their hermeneutic and interpretation of “all the trees” or all the nations putting for their leaves in 1948 per Luke’s account (Lk. 21:29-31)?  Notice how they always avoid that passage!

Revelation 11:2 and Luke 21:24 – 1967?

As we looked at in Part 1, Dispensational Zionists erroneously believe the book of Revelation was written post AD 70 so they assume the mention of a Temple in chapter 11 is referring to a rebuilt Temple in modern day Jerusalem instead of the one under discussion in Olivet Discourse.  The truth however is that Revelation was written pre-AD 70, and the reference to the existence of a Temple and City during the time of John that would be tread down, is referring to Jerusalem and the Temple in his day.

“And leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the nations; and they will tread under foot the holy city for forty-two months.” (Rev. 11:2)

Allowing Scripture to interpret Scripture, we can readily connect Revelation 11:2b with Luke 21:24 (which was fulfilled in AD 70):

[A]nd they [“the nations”] will trample under foot the holy city for forty-two months. (Rev. 11:2b)

. . . Jerusalem will be trampled under foot by the nations until the times of the nations [“forty-two months”] be fulfilled. (Lk. 21:24)

In both of these verses, the nations trample Jerusalem for a period of time. There is more than similarity of language here. Jesus and John prophesied the same event —an event that was “near” and that took place in Christ’s “generation” (Lk. 21:32; Rev. 1:3; 22:10). Therefore, “forty-two months” signifies some months or years between AD 66 and 70, the years of the war that ended in the destruction of the city and the sanctuary. That was the same period of time that the angel called “a time, times, and half a time” in Daniel 12:7 and which was consummated when the power of the Old Testament “holy people” was shattered in AD 70.

The context of Luke 21:24 and the times of the Gentiles treading down Jerusalem, goes back to the prediction of the heathen Idumean armies and the Roman armies surrounding the city and “wrath” being poured out upon that local “land” when they would fall by the sword and be led captive throughout the Roman Empire (cf. vss. 20-24). Therefore, the “times of the Gentiles” is referring to a rough period of 3 ½ years between AD 66 – AD 70.  1967 is nowhere to be found in the context – it has to be read into the text.

Romans 11:26-27

Contrary to what Dispensational Zionists and even some Postmillennialists, Romans 11 has nothing to do with saving a future national Israel thousands of years removed from Paul’s day.

Even though God’s old covenant people in their last generation were being hardened and excluded from the coming inheritance, that did not mean that God had rejected old covenant Israel (Rom. 11:1– 2). Although it may have looked like Israel was being utterly cut off in her last generation, the truth was that old covenant Israel was being saved in her last days. God was actually saving “all Israel”—fulfilling His promises to “the fathers”—partly by means of the hardening of its last generation. Here’s how:

By means of old covenant Israel’s transgression/failure and rejection in her last days, riches and reconciliation (through the gospel) were coming to the Gentiles (Acts 13:46; 18:6; 28:18). As Paul said, “They are enemies for your sakes.” (Rom. 11:28)

The salvation of the Gentiles was making last days Israel “jealous,” so that a remnant was becoming zealous for righteousness and being saved. (Rom. 11:2–10,11,13,14)

The hardening, or reprobation, of old covenant Israel in her last generation was to continue until the fullness of the Gentiles came in, i.e., came into Israel. (Rom. 11:25)

In this manner, or by this process, all of the saints of historic, old covenant Israel were going to be saved (or resurrected) along with the last day’s remnant, and with the believing Gentiles who had been grafted into historic Israel. The consummation of this process took place in the Parousia of Christ in AD 70, when Christ came from heaven to forgive the sins of His New Covenant Israel – according to the promises made to the fathers (Rom. 11:26-27). That is when Israel died, and was raised up a new, transformed Israel. That is when all of the elect (the Old Testament saints, the last day’s Jewish remnant, and the believing Gentiles) were consummately united in Christ and became the fulfilled “Israel of God.” It was in this manner that all Israel was saved.

Is the OC Mosaic Law alive today being “unconditionally” fulfilled through modern Israel?

While John Hagee and other Dispensational Zionists believe the “Old Covenant law is not dead” and promises made to fleshly Israel through the Law and Prophets have not been fulfilled, Jesus made it clear that He came to fulfill “all” the law and prophets within His generation (Lk. 21:22, 32).  If “all” the OC law has not been fulfilled and OC Israel’s “heaven and earth” have not passed away, then according to Jesus, “all of the jots and tittles” of the Law or to be obeyed by Jesus’ followers today (per Mt. 5:17-19).  Per the book of Hebrews, the OC law still had a legal standing and was currently being imposed, but was “ready to vanish” in AD 70 (Heb. 8:13—10:37).

Zionists, affirm that God gave Israel the promised land (from Egypt to Iraq) as an unconditional ‘everlasting possession.’ (Genesis 17:8).  While Genesis 17:8 describes the land as an “everlasting inheritance,” the context makes it clear that Israel’s residence was conditioned upon belief and obedience to the covenant (which included circumcision): “Then God said to Abraham, ‘As for you, you must keep my covenant, you and your descendants after you for the generations to come’… Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant” (Gen. 17:9, 12-13 14).  In Joshua 5 we learn that no circumcision meant no possession of the land!  Therefore, circumcision itself would be an everlasting mark or sign and inclusive with the land covenant, “…my covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant (Gen. 17:3).

The NT makes it clear that circumcision was also a physical temporal sign and symbol of Messiah’s salvation of the heart and entrance into His spiritual kingdom and that to continue in it (physically) was an offense to Messiah’s salvation (Gals. 5:2-6, 11).  Interesting that today in Israel, a tiny pin prick which barely draws blood has become symbolic of circumcision (which is supposed to be the complete removal of the foreskin).  This and the fact that 90% of so-called “Jews” today aren’t even the DNA “seed” of Abraham makes 1948 a joke of an alleged “fulfillment” of these promises.

The fact that Israel was ejected from the land and circumcision is no more, demonstrates that the literal land/circumcision promise/covenant was not unconditional and by “everlasting” is not meant that these two things would never cease to exist because of God’s unconditional promise.

Many passages such as Exodus 19:15; Leviticus 26:40-42; Deuteronomy 4; 19:8-9; 28; Joshua 23:16; Ezekiel 33:23-29; etc…, make it abundantly clear that IF they obeyed the covenant they would be blessed and be able to stay in the land, but if they disobeyed and broke the covenant they would be expelled from the land.  After the Babylonian Captivity God raised up a believing remnant from the twelve tribes that did meet the requirements – repenting and believing in Jehovah.  This remnant would be a type of the New Covenant believers being spiritually gathered in Messiah or “In Christ.”

The events of 1948 in no way fulfills or meets any of the OT requirements.  Not only did the Old Covenant end in AD 70 (the source for Israel’s promises of being in the physical land), but clearly no such repentance and faith in Jehovah and His Messiah occurred in 1948. Ironically Christian Zionists claim the OC law ended at the cross, but want to claim Israel coming back in the land in 1948 fulfills promises given within that same OC law!  You can’t have it both ways!

As we saw in my first lecture – Dispensational Zionists admit that if Israel’s OT promises made to Israel are applied or fulfilled through the Church, then their entire system is unbiblical and collapses. They clearly state that even New Covenant promises made to Israel cannot be applied and fulfilled through the Church.  This is why this system seeks to set our minds and hope on 1948 and Israel’s potential re-built Temple in our “terminal generation.”

This goes contrary to what Paul teaches the Church in 2 Corinthians 4-5 and Colossians 2-3.  Here he exhorted the early Christians to not set their minds and hopes on the Old Covenant “things” of the “LAND” (btw see Don’s new book on Cols. 3:1-2 where he correctly translates “earth” as “land” and contextually connects it to the OC system) – that is on things that could be seen (i.e. the OC land and physical house/temple).  Paul could say this because the “glory” of that Old Covenant world was in the process of passing away (2 Cor. 3).  Pauline eschatology teaches us that the Church is the spiritual fulfillment of the New Covenant millennial Temple promise (cf. 2 Cor. 6:16=Ezek. 37:27).

The Weak Link in Scofield’s “Literal” Hermeneutic

Consider the implications of Scofield’s concession that the sacrifices in Israel’s New Covenant millennial temple were not to be fulfilled literally:

“The reference to sacrifices [in Ezekiel’s temple prophecy] is not to be taken literally, in view of the putting away of such offerings [according to Hebrews], but is rather to be regarded…using the terms with which the Jews were familiar in Ezekiel’s day” (Scofield, 1967, 888).

If the sacrifices in the millennial temple are not to be “taken literally,” then the millennial temple is not to be literal as well.  And what about the priests or worshipers that are connected to these non-literal sacrifices and temple system?  Perhaps they too are described in the Bible as a spiritual people?  And if the millennial sacrifices are spiritual, the worshippers and priesthood are spiritual, residing in a spiritual Temple, then this all must rest upon some spiritual or New Covenant “heavenly land” or “heavens and earth” – right?  Only makes sense.

Jesus’ and NT’s Spiritual Hermeneutic

While “from heaven,” Jesus is the fulfillment of the tabernacle and temple promises and all those who put their faith in Him are not born of flesh and blood or from the will of man, but born of the Spirit or from above (Jn. 1:13-14; 3:3-13).  Jesus and John see the Temple and living water promise of Ezekiel 47 to be apart of the OT “Scriptures” that predicted the coming of the Holy Spirit – from which His Church functions as a living Temple brining healing to the nations (Jn. 7:37-39; Rev. 21-22:17).  Jesus is clearly taking OT “Scriptures” and saying they are fulfilled spiritually through the Church as His New Covenant Temple.

Peter makes it clear that Christians are a spiritual Temple, a spiritual priesthood (born through the Word), a spiritual nation, and that the “ready” to come inheritance involves the “salvation of the soul” (1 Pet. 1-2).  No Dispensational hyper-literal hermeneutic found here!

In Galatians 3-4, Paul informs the Church that the New Covenant “the faith” was “about to be revealed” (3:23YLT).  In chapter 4 Paul affirms that OT promises given to Abraham and the prophets of the coming New Covenant gospel of “the faith” finds its fulfillment in the “seed” of Jesus and even the Gentiles that believe in Him.  They form the spiritual New Covenant “Jerusalem from above” –in contrast to the Old Covenant literal Jerusalem system that was then present while Paul wrote.

The book of Hebrews likewise takes apart the hyper-literal hermeneutic of Dispensational or Evangelical Zionism on both the time and nature of fulfillment.

The author informs us in chapters 1 and 9 (as Peter did in Acts 2) that Israel’s OT promises of the “last days” had arrived because Jesus appeared in the “last days” of the OC age.  In Hebrews 1:14YLT – the author uses the Greek word mello to inform the Church that she is “about to inherit” the “salvation” promised by the OT prophets.

In 2:5 he uses mello again describing this inheritance and salvation, as the “world” or age that was “about to come” and thus be inherited.

In chapters 3-4 the author develops the same inheritance and salvation imminently coming, except he now uses David in Psalm 95 as prophesying another coming rest that they were to enter into which had nothing to do with the physical land David was standing in at the time he prophesied.

In chapters 8, we learn not only that the OC was “ready to vanish” away in AD 70, but that the promise of the New Covenant made to Israel is fulfilled and applied to Christians and the Church (Heb. 8:6-13).

In chapter 9:6-10, we also learn that the OC economy is typologically connected to the “first” compartment to the tabernacle or Temple (that is the holy place), and the “second” is the NC economy (the Most Holy Place).  The way into the Most Holy Place was not yet complete, until the Holy Place (that is the OC system that still had a (legal) “standing”) was removed in AD 70.  By the way, this is why after the “soon” Second Coming of Jesus, the NJ of Revelation 21:16 is described as a perfectly cubed MHP without a HP.  We also learn in 9:26-28 that Jesus’ first and second comings as the Churches High Priest is described as bringing about “salvation” and forgiveness of sin in Israel’s OC “last days.”

Chapter 10:1 connects Jesus’ Second Coming of 9:26-28 to close the last days of the OC age, with Him bringing in the “about to come” NC “good” or “better things” of the NC age.  In verse 25 “the day” of Sabbath rest in chapters 3-4 is picked back up again and is described as “drawing near” for the Church to inherit.  In verses 13-37 there is a description of Jesus’ Second Coming (of chapter 9) and the imminent “day” of chapters 3-4, and 9:25 that is now “near” and would thus come in “a very little while” and “would not delay.”  It is at this imminent coming to close the OC age, that He completely fulfills Psalm 110 and put all of His enemies under His feet – when He was “about to” consume “His [OC] people” vss. 27-30.

In chapter 11:11-16 we once again learn that like David who while in the land prophesied of a “better rest” and thus land promise coming (in Psalm 95), so too Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (while in the land as pilgrims) looked to a “better” and “heavenly” land and city as the fulfillment. The term “better” throughout Hebrews refers to the promise of the coming New Covenant salvation (promised to Israel in the OT), and is always the anti-type or spiritual fulfillment.  So the “better resurrection” of Hebrews 11:35-40 is also a fulfillment of the New Covenant promises and is spiritual, connected to the imminent Second Coming of Christ in chapters 9-10.

Chapter 12 contrasts the physical OC economy of Mount Sinai and its kingdom and “heavens and earth” that would be shaken one last time, with the “better” New Covenant kingdom that was spiritual and thus could not be shaken.

And finally in chapter 13:14 we learn once again that the “city” and thus heavenly land and rest David, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the other patriarchs prophesied and longed for was “about to come” and be inherited (see YLT).

The book of Hebrews in virtually every chapter overthrows the Dispensational Zionist theology in it’s teaching that OT promises made to Israel are not fulfilled in the Church, and that New Covenant promises made to Israel in the OT must be fulfilled literally.  Clearly the book of Hebrews teaches that the New Covenant promises made to Israel are fulfilled in the Church, and Israel’s OT promises were to be fulfilled spiritually at Christ’s “in a very little while” coming to close the OC age in AD 70.

3).  The “soon” Second Coming and end time “THE war”

By far, the term “Armageddon” connected with the “end of the world” are the two most talked about subjects among those that speculate on Jesus’ teaching in the Olivet Discourse and the book of Revelation.  Evangelical Zionist so-called “prophecy experts” flood the TV and radio airwaves and liter the “Christian” bookstore shelves under the “prophecy” section instead of the “fiction” section, are supposed to be the guiding lights many professing Christians, Christians that don’t study their Bibles, the curious unbeliever, and media look to for answers on this curious subject.

Because Dispensational Zionists have mega churches or are presidents of so called Christian Universities, they are the ones invited on FOX News to pontificate upon Bible prophecy, Islam, Israel, Russia, and current events in the Middle East.  From the inception of the Dispensational Zionist movement (especially with it gaining ground in the 60’s and 70’s), the subject of Armageddon and current events go unchallenged and are just expected to go to together.

I think it’s safe to say that most Christians and even non-Christians have an idea that the battle of Armageddon and or Gog and Magog is predicted to take place in the book of Revelation.  But if you asked these same individuals where this same end time or last day’s battle was predicted in the OT and to which of these OT texts Jesus uses to develop His eschatology on this subject most would not have a clue.  So let’s begin here before digging into the book of Revelation.

When did Jesus say “the end” and the “last days” war of Daniel 9; 12 and Isaiah 2—4 would be fulfilled?

  1. “The War” of Daniel 9:26-27

“And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined.” And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation [the end], and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

Before addressing what Jesus says of this passage in the Olivet Discourse, it is important to point out that these same eschatological events are recapitulated later in Daniel 12 and there “the end” is connected with the war being described as “when the power of the holy people would be completely shattered” (12:7).

Jesus in Matthew 24:15-20 and Luke 21:20-24 connects “the war” of Daniel 9 and 12 and the surrounding of the Idumean and Roman armies to a specific sign of His coming and “the end” or “the end of the [OC] age” in the years between AD 66 – AD 70.  In Luke 21:22-24 Jesus connects the war, the desolations, and punishment to be inflicted upon the Jews in their land, to not just be the fulfillment of Daniel’s prophecy, but “in fulfillment of all that has been written” in the Old Testament prophets concerning His coming, the end of the OC age, and the destruction of the Temple.  “All that has been written” in the OT would include ANY prophecy about “Armageddon” or the battle of “Gog and Magog.”

Therefore, per Jesus’ teaching in the Olivet Discourse, “the end” connected with “the war” would be fulfilled in his contemporary AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation.”  The Gentile armies would surround OC Jerusalem one last time and tread her beneath their feet.  This would be the war to end all wars for OC Jerusalem, because post AD 70 the kingdom would be taken from her and given over to the spiritual NC kingdom.  That is a Jerusalem that is spiritual and thus not subject to be “shaken” or tread down by earthly armies.

  1. The “last days” “The War” and Day of the Lord in Isaiah 2—4

Isaiah 2—4 predicts Jerusalem’s “last days” “in that day” “Day of the Lord” coming by which Jerusalem’s “mighty” would “fall by the sword” “in the war” (2—-3:25).  In that day or during this war, men are described as fleeing to the caves in the rocks and holes in the ground, for through this war He is coming in majesty “shaking” Jerusalem’s “earth” or kingdom (2:10-19).

a.  Jesus’ teaching on “the war” of Isaiah 2-3 in Luke 23

Jesus clearly identifies the time of this last day’s war for Jerusalem to be the events leading up to AD 70 in Luke 23 where on his way to the cross he prophesies against Jerusalem saying,

“Daughters of Jerusalem, stop weeping for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never nursed.’ 30“Then they will begin TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, ‘FALL ON US,’ AND TO THE HILLS, ‘COVER US.

b.  Jesus’ teaching on Isaiah’s last day’s war in Matthew 23:

In Isaiah 4:4 we also learn it is through this coming “war” and Day of the Lord judgment, that God would forgive Jerusalem for her sin of bloodguilt:

“when the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and cleansed the bloodguilt from the heart of Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of burning.”

Jesus once again connects this last days “war” with Jerusalem’s sin of bloodguilt and thus when the vindication of the martyrs would be fulfilled – i.e. at His coming in judgment in the Pharisees contemporary “this generation” when their “house” or Temple would be made desolate in AD 70 (cf.  Mt. 23:31-39).

c.  Jesus’ teaching on Isaiah’s war in Luke 21:

Jesus also appeals to the last days war of Isaiah 3:25 when He prophesies that the men who stayed in Jerusalem would “fall by the sword” (Lk. 21:24).

Jesus prophesied that the “last days” “time of the end” “war” and judgment upon OC Jerusalem would be fulfilled in His contemporary generation for her shedding His blood, the blood of the OT prophets, and those He would send to her.  It was for this reason that He came upon the clouds in judgment and left her house desolate – that is not one stone left upon another (Mt. 23-24).

Since Dispensational Zionists such as Thomas Ice admit such passages as Luke 21:20-24; Luke 23:28-30; and Matthew 23:31-38; were fulfilled in Jesus’ contemporary generation when Rome surrounded and laid waist Jerusalem in AD 70, and since Jesus is stating that the last seven and Israel’s “last days” war would be fulfilled then, then Dispensational Zionism falls on its face!

  •  Special thanks to Don Preston and his work BLAST from the PAST The Truth About Armageddon that was useful to develop the above section on “the war” in Daniel 9 and Isaiah 2–4.

Let’s now turn to the book of Revelation and see if John’s eschatology lines up with Jesus’ on when and why the “time of the end” “the war” is fulfilled.

Matthew 24-25 = Revelation & Recapitulation

Everyone seems to agree that the book of Revelation is John’s version of the Olivet Discourse.  Therefore, we should expect to have John’s eschatology on “THE war” line up with Jesus’ eschatology on “the war.”

Commentators, while disagreeing on the content of Revelation, non-the-less tend to also agree that the book of Revelation uses prophetic recapitulation and John picks up where the prophet Daniel left off.  What was to be sealed up because the time of fulfillment was “far off” in Daniel’s day is not to be sealed up in John’s, but the time of fulfillment was “at hand.”  Therefore, this “time of the end” battle when the power of the holy people would be shattered described in the book of Daniel and Revelation is when OC Jerusalem would be trodden down by the heathen or Gentile nations (Rev. 11), when the battle of Armageddon (Rev. 16), when the battle with the beast (Rev. 19), and when the battle of Gog and Magog (Rev. 20) would be fulfilled “shortly” in John’s generation.  The book of Revelation is presented in a common prophetic recapitulation construct – meaning these are simply different ways of describing the same end time battle.  There is only one final war or end time judgment in Revelation and it is consistently referred to in John’s use of the Greek phrase “to gather them for the war” in (cf. Rev. 16:14; 19:19; 20:8).

Christian Full Preterism brings together and harmonizes the classic Amillennial view and the Partial Preterist views regarding the time frame of this ONE end time war in the book of Revelation.  Consider the following:

Premise #1:  If – “THE war” and judgment scenes of Revelation 16 – 20 are depicting ONE end time event (through typical prophetic recapitulation – the Classic Amillennial View)…

Premise #2:  AND if – “THE war” and judgment scenes of Revelation 16-19 were fulfilled in and by AD 70, (the Partial Preterist View),…

Conclusion:  THEN – “THE war” (which is ONE and the same) and judgment scenes of Revelation 16-20 were fulfilled in and by AD 70 (the Full Preterist View).

Revelation 16 – “THE war” and Armageddon

The passages I want to develop here in Revelation 16 are verses 14-16, 19-20:

“They are demonic spirits that perform signs, and they go out to the kings of the whole world, to gather them for the battle (or the war) on the great day of God Almighty. 15″Look, I come like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake and remains clothed, so as not to go naked and be shamefully exposed.” 16Then they gathered the kings together to the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.” (Rev. 16:14-16).

“The great city split into three parts, and the cities of the nations collapsed. God remembered Babylon the Great and gave her the cup filled with the wine of the fury of his wrath. 20Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found.” (Rev. 16:19-20).

The first point I would like to make and that we should take careful notice of, is that the context for the gathering of the armies in “Armageddon” and the coming “THE war of the Great Day of God” that ensues in Revelation 16, is for the purpose of judging Babylon.  Therefore, to understand when this war takes place we need to identify who Babylon is in the prophecy.  Earlier in 11:8 we are told that Babylon or this great city is OC Jerusalem – where Jesus was crucified.  So “Armageddon” and “THE war” here has nothing to do with the Roman Catholic Church, the lands or nations of modern day Iran, Iraq, Syria, Muslims, the Russians, or even modern Israel.  This is a “war” and judgment upon OC Jerusalem.

The rest of the prophecy tells us why “THE war,” comes about or why Babylon is to be judged.  In chapters 17-18 we learn it is because OC Jerusalem or Babylon has played the harlot, and has a history of killing all the prophets God sends to her, and has gotten drunk off the blood of the Apostles, prophets, and martyrs (again that Jesus promised to send to her in Matthew 23), and as a result, then judges her because she has now filled up the measure of their suffering, and the thus the cup of God’s wrath is now full and ready to be poured out.  The time of avenging the last Apostles and Prophets Jesus had sent to her along with all the blood of martyrs going as far back to Genesis had come!

The coming “Great Day” of God’s judgment and wrath in Revelation 16 in relation to brining judgment upon Israel’s sin of bloodguilt, has also been previously addressed in Revelation 6.  In Revelation 6 John is consistent with Jesus’ time frame of “the war” and vindication of the martyrs as developed in Isaiah 2—4.  John tells us that the vindication for the martyrs would be in a “very little while” after their number would be completed.  This corresponds with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 23 where He says the blood of the martyrs would be filled up or completed within their generation when He would come and judged their city and Temple.

John, like Jesus, also cites the last days war and coming Day of judgment of Isaiah 2—4 in Revelation 6:15-17.  Here people are seeking to hide in themselves from the majesty of the Lord’s “Great Day” of judgment coming – in caves and among the rocks of the mountains.  And in both Revelation 6 and our Armageddon prophecy here in Revelation 16, parallel de-creation language is used.  “Every mountain and island was removed” in chapter 6 is parallel to “Every island fled away and the mountains could not be found” in chapter 16.  So thus far John is using the last days war of Isaiah 2—4 to be against OC Jerusalem for shedding the blood of the martyrs and to be judged imminently in that first century generation.

So then what relationship does the term “Armageddon” have with “THE war of the Great Day of God”?  Armageddon simply means “Mount Megiddo.”  There is no “mountain” there because it is a plain, but the closest one is Mount Carmel.  This term and geographical locations are referred to because they function as a symbol for famous battles Israel and her enemies had there.  As David Chilton and Farrer explain,

“Megiddo” thus was for St. John a symbol of defeat and desolation, a “Waterloo” signifying the defeat of those who set themselves against God, as Farrer explains:  “In sum, Mt. Megiddo stands in his mind for a place where lying prophecy and its dupes go to meet their doom; where kings and their armies are misled to their destruction; where kings and their armies are misled to their destruction; and where all the tribes of the earth mourn, to see Him in power, whom in weakness they had pierced.” (David Chilton, Days of Vengeance, p. 412).

Christ coming as “a thief” in the following verse is another way of describing the coming of “the Great Day of God.” And we know from Revelation 3 that Him coming as a thief was His AD 70 “soon” coming.  Not only this, but His coming as a thief once again connects this event to Christ coming in the generation of AD 70 (cf. Mt. 24:43).

In putting this together so far we learn the following:

Premise #1 – Revelation 16-18 teaches us that the gathering for “the war” in “Megiddo” was for the purpose of bringing judgment upon the Great City of Babylon (who is identified in 11:8 as OC Jerusalem) for shedding the blood of the martyrs.

Premise #2 – The war designed to Judge OC Jerusalem and vindicate the martyrs in Revelation chapters 16-18 is referring to the same “Great Day” of judgment and vindication of the martyrs in Revelation 6 to take place “in a very little while” and is the “last days” war of Isaiah 2—4.

Conclusion:  Both Jesus and John prophesied that “the war” and vindication of the martyrs in Isaiah 2—4 would be fulfilled in the AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” or “in a very little while,” when Jerusalem (or Babylon) would be judged in “THE war” between AD 66 – AD 70.

Before getting into the battle of Gog and Magog, let’s first point out some problems for Dispensational Zionists and then Partial Preterists.  Problems for the Dispensational Zionist include the following:

Problem #1:  According to Ezekiel 38:16 this war takes place in Israel’s “last days,” and yet Peter informs us that the promise made to Israel concerning the “last days” had already begun in and during the Church age in Acts 2 (something Dispensationalists tell us cannot happen).

Problem #2:  According to Revelation 19:17-18 and Ezekiel 39:17-20 this gathering for “THE war” and the great supper of God whereby the animals feast upon the dead bodies, takes place at the Second Coming when Jesus comes on a white horse depicted as “The Word” and “King of Kings” in Revelation 19:11-15. So we have “THE war” of Gog and Magog taking place BOTH at the Second Coming before the millennial period, and yet somehow the same war takes place at the end of a 1,000 years millennial period.

Problem #3: “THE war” of Gog and Magog according to John would take place “shortly” and thus not 2,000 plus years and counting or in our future.

Just as a quick side-note, the main problem for the Partial Preterist lies in the Preterist hermeneutic they have already used in chapters 1-19, 21-22.  They admit that “THE war” of Revelation 16 and 19 is one and the same being fulfilled between AD 66 – AD 70.  Why?   Because the time statements and the recapitulation structure of Revelation demand this.  However, they assume Revelation 20 is an island unto itself and the time statements and the recapitulation structure of the judgment of the dead, martyr vindication, and de-creation in the previous chapters don’t apply to Revelation 20.  Why?  Not because their hermeneutic demands this, but their creeds do!  However, “THE war” and judgment scene of Revelation 16, 19, and 20 is one and the same, but these chapters describe the same war using different imagery to be fulfilled at the same time – “shortly.”

Revelation 19 and “THE War” with the Beast

“And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make [THE] war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army.” (Rev. 19:19)

Again, chapters 18-19 are contextually tied to the defeat of “Babylon” which 11:8 and Matthew 23 has identified as the city where Jesus was crucified (ie. old covenant Jerusalem) the persecutor excel lance of the OT prophets and apostles Jesus would send to her.

Revelation 19:11-21 is simply another recapitulation of the same end time battle and judgment we have seen in chapter 11 and 16 — except described differently with different imagery etc….

Amazingly the Dispensational “prophecy experts” claim the rider of the white horse in Revelation 6:2 is the “antichrist,” but there is absolutely no exegetical evidence for this. Here in chapter 19 once again the rider of the White horse is described as Jesus Christ. In chapter 6 Christ comes on the white horse (His second coming) conquering – thus vindicating the martyrs “in a very little while” in the “great day of His wrath” pouring out the covenant curses upon the land of Israel which Jesus also identified to take place in the AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” (Matthew 24/Luke 21).

Josephus describes the Jews in Jerusalem between AD 66 – AD 70 as a Jewish “beast” devouring their own flesh (the infighting between the Priests, Zealots, and Idumeans) that would eventually burn down their own city.

I would tend to agree with Adam that the beast here in Revelation 19 is not Roman but Jewish.  He connects the beasts fate in Daniel 7 and Revelation 19 thus,

““…I watched till the beast was slain, and its body destroyed and given to the burning flame” (Daniel 7:11).

“Then the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who worked signs in his presence, by which he deceived those who received the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. These two were cast alive into the lake of fire burning with brimstone” (Revelation 19:20).

If the Roman Empire was the beast of Revelation, how was this empire captured, slain, destroyed, burned, and cast into the lake of fire? Rome actually came out of the Jewish-Roman War (AD 66 -73) stronger than ever. History tells us that Rome was stronger in the second century AD than it was in the first century AD.

Someone might say that this applied to Nero, who is said to be the beast in a singular sense. Nero was indeed killed – with his own sword, but he was not captured and he was not burned. Nor did he go down at the same time as any false prophets who worked with him.

It was Israel that was captured, slain, destroyed, and burned – as we can see in great detail in “Wars of the Jews” by Josephus.”  (Adam Maarschalk, Who Was the Beast? (Five Clues) – Long Island Conference Presentation

And of the false prophets working with the Zealots Adam writes,

“In Antiquities 20.8.6 Josephus wrote the following about numerous false prophets who deceived the Jews during the time of the Procurators Felix (52-58 AD) and Festus (59-62 AD):

“These works, that were done by the robbers, filled the city with all sorts of impiety. And now these impostors and deceivers persuaded the multitude to follow them into the wilderness, and pretended that they would exhibit manifest wonders and signs, that should be performed by the providence of God. And many that were prevailed on by them suffered the punishments of their folly; for Felix brought them back, and then punished them. Moreover, there came out of Egypt about this time to Jerusalem one that said he was a prophet, and advised the multitude of the common people to go along with him to the Mount of Olives…”

In Wars 2.13.4-6 Josephus wrote about various false prophets and deceivers who worked to persuade the people to revolt against the Romans and who killed those who refused to revolt:

“There was also another body of wicked men gotten together… These were such men as deceived and deluded the people under pretense of Divine inspiration, but were for procuring innovations and changes of the government; and these prevailed with the multitude to act like madmen, and went before them into the wilderness, as pretending that God would there show them the signals of liberty…

for a company of deceivers and robbers got together, and persuaded the Jews to revolt, and exhorted them to assert their liberty, inflicting death on those that continued in obedience to the Roman government, and saying, that such as willingly chose slavery ought to be forced from such their desired inclinations; for they parted themselves into different bodies, and lay in wait up and down the country, and plundered the houses of the great men, and slew the men themselves, and set the villages on fire; and this till all Judea was filled with the effects of their madness. And thus the flame was every day more and more blown up, till it came to a direct war.”

In Wars 6.5.1-2 Josephus talked about how, when the temple was burned down, the number of people killed in that blaze was especially high because so many people listened to the words of a false prophet. Josephus also revealed that this false prophet was one of many false prophets who had been hired by the Zealots to control the people and keep them from fleeing from their control:

“A false prophet was the occasion of these people’s destruction, who had made a public proclamation in the city that very day, that God commanded them to get upon the temple, and that there they should receive miraculous signs of their deliverance. Now there was then a great number of false prophets suborned [hired] by the tyrants to impose on the people, who denounced this to them, that they should wait for deliverance from God; and this was in order to keep them from deserting” (Wars 6.5.2).” (Maarschalk, Ibid.).

This end time “THE Battle” describes the covenant cursing divorcement and judgment of God’s OC Wife/Jerusalem, while at the same time He consummates His marriage to His NC Wife/the New Jerusalem (the Church).  While the wedding feast takes place for the NC Wife/Jerusalem, the OC Harlot Wife/Jerusalem gets fed to the birds – “all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh” (Rev. 19:6-9; 21).

Revelation 20 – THE war of Gog and Magog

Gary DeMar sees the historical reference to Gog and Magog to be fulfilled in type form in the time of Esther.  William Hendriksen believes it is during the time of the Seleucids,

“The expression ‘God and Magog’ is borrowed from the book of Ezekiel, where the term undoubtedly indicates that power of the Seleucids especially as it was revealed in the days of Antiochus Epiphanes, the bitter enemy of the Jews. The centre of his kingdom was located in North Syria. Seleucus established his residence there in the city of Antioch on the Orontes. To the east his territory extended beyond the Tigris. To the north the domain over which the Seleucids ruled included Mesheck and Tubal, districts in Asia Minor. Accordingly, Gog was the prince of Magog, that is, Syria. Therefore, the oppression of God’s people by ‘Gog and Magog’, refers, in Ezekiel, to the terrible persecution under Antiochus Epiphanes, ruler of Syria.”  (William Hendriksen, More Than Conquerors, (Grand Rapids, MI, Baker Book House, 7th reprint 1990), 193).

If this view is correct and the attack of Gog and Magog (Syria under Antiochus Epiphanes) was the last great oppression which Israel endured to close the OT, it stands to reason that John in the book of Revelation would use this in a symbolical or type/anti-type way to describe the end time battle to close the old covenant age and the liberation of the new covenant Israel of God. And it appears that Jesus is using the typological “abomination that causes desolation” and “tribulation” under Antiochus Epiphanes which was severe and brief, to describe the final anti-type fulfillment desolation, wrath, and tribulation that would be unleashed upon the land of the Jews during AD 66 – 70 (Matthew 24:15-34/Luke 21:20-32).

John is using the symbolism of a past battle of Gog and Magog to depict a future (but “shortly” “at hand” soon” “about to be”) battle for John’s day.

Also notice that the use of ancient weapons is being used and burned (Ezek. 38:4-5; 39:9) which would fit the warfare, destruction, and fire of AD 66 – AD 70 more than it would a description of nuclear or modern day warfare.

Here we have Satanically led OC Israel being pictured as Gog and Magog gathering nations from the four corners of the earth (or better translated as the land of Palestine) to surround the camp of God’s people, the city He loves.”  The Greek word here for “earth” is ge and is consistently and accurately translated as “land” in Revelation from the Young’s Literal Translation.  In 1876 Alfred Edersheim, wrote that the Jewish Rabbi understood the phrase “the land” to be “Palestine,” and all other countries being summed up under the designation of ‘outside the land’” (Sketches of Jewish Public Life, p. 14).  Since virtually everyone agrees that the book of Revelation is John’s version of Jesus’ Olivet Discourse, we should follow the analogy of faith principle of interpretation and turn to Matthew 24 and Luke 21 to understand the meaning of ge (land), the and Jerusalem being “surrounded.”  In Luke 21 we read:

“But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people” (Luke 21:20-23).

We are also taught by our Lord in Matthew 24:30 and Revelation 1:7 that it is the “tribes of the land” (of Israel that crucified Him), that we find mourning as a result of His “this generation” and “at hand” coming.

In Revelation 7:1 the phrase, the “four corners of the land” is used and there it is also describing the covenant wrath that was going to be poured out upon the land of Judea or Palestine and not the Roman Empire or the globe.

What are we to make of OC Israel gathering the “nations” to help destroy the Christian remnant (the Israel of God) that are still within OC Jerusalem?  These are not the “nations” of the globe, but rather the nations within Palestine.  As James Russell points out,

“In our Lord’s time it was usual to speak of the inhabitants of Palestine as consisting of several nations.  Josephus speaks of ‘the nation of the Samaritans…” ‘the nation of the Galileans…’ etc…  Judea was a distinct nation, often with a king of its own; so also was Samaria; and so with Idumea, Galilee, Perea…all of which had at different times princes with the title of Ethnarch, a name which signifies the ruler of a nation.”  (Russell, The Parousia, p. 105).

So what we have here is the Zealot movement (with help from the Idumeans) gaining momentum throughout the nations of Palestine coming up against the Christians in Jerusalem to make war.  This war climaxes with Jerusalem eventually being surrounded by angelic armies and then the Roman armies as well (which also consisted of the nations of the world as they knew it).  At some point, the Christians see the sign of Jerusalem being surrounded by armies and flee the city to Pella as the Lord directed them.  There Rome ironically protects them from continued Jewish persecution.

The Martyr Vindication Theme

The “soon” Second Coming that took place at the end of the millennium was to vindicate the martyrs here in Revelation 20.  Again this is consistent with what we saw in Revelation 6 and 16-18 along with Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 23-24.

Through the imprecatory prayers of the persecuted Church and the cries of the martyrs, they call fire down upon the apostate mountain of OC Jerusalem and have it thrown into the sea (Mt. 21:18-22 / Rev. 8:1-8). It was through the preaching of the gospel throughout the then known world, the filling up the measure of Israel’s guilt in their killing of the martyrs, and the imprecatory prayers of the saints, that God uses to take the kingdom from OC Israel and give it to the Church in her restored, matured, and glorified form.

Study on the Deity of Christ

The complexity of the God-head existed in the OT before we even reach the NT and the Christian view of the Trinity emerges.  If the Scriptures said that no one could see God and live (Ex. 33:20), how is it that these same Scriptures taught that people saw Him on the earth (and didn’t die) while at the same time He sat enthroned in heaven running the universe?  Didn’t God come in human form – even talking and eating with Abraham (Gen. 18), wrestling with Jacob and leading the armies of Israel?

We will now examine the Deity of Christ in that all God is said to be and does, Jesus is said to be and does.

1).  Jesus the Divine and eternal Word – Before examining the Gospel of John and John’s description of Jesus as the “Word,” let’s once again try and get the Jewish cultural and contextual understanding of “the Word” before the Messiah even comes into the world.  In the Aramaic Targum (their translation of the Hebrew Scriptures which was read in the synagogues), the “LORD” is substituted with the “Word” or “Word of the LORD”: Genesis 1:27; 3:8; 6:6-7; 9:12; 15:6; 20:3; 28:20-21; 31:49; Ex. 14:31; 20:1; 25:22; Lev. 26:9; Num. 10:35-36; 11:23; 14:35; Deut. 1:26; 1:30; 4:7; 18:19; 31:3; Josh. 1:5; Judges 11:10; Isa. 45:17).

Here we find it’s the Word that creates, it’s the Word that walked in the garden with Adam, it’s the Word Abraham believed in and was justified by, they believed in the Word, the Word rose up and returned in saving and justifying Israel, the Word decreed, the Word gave the law, Moses prayed to the Word, the Word sits enthroned in heaven listening to the prayers of Israel, the people rebelled against the Word, the Word led and fought for Israel, the Word passed before the people, etc…  And watch this comparison of Genesis 28:20-21:

“If God will be with me and will watch over me on this journey I am taking and will give me food to eat and clothes to wear so that I return safely to my father’s house, then the LORD will be with me, then the LORD will be my God.”

And the Targum,

“If the Word of the LORD will be with me…then the Word of the LORD will be my God.”

Belief in the “Word” is what justified Abraham, and the “Word” was Jacob’s God!

Even the Jew Philo understood the Word (Greek Logos) as a “second god,” “mediator” and the “governor and administrator of all things.”

So once we approach John 1, we can see John is not coming up with something completely new to the Jewish thought.  He understood what was being read in the synagogues about the Word (memra) and writing in Greek He understood what was being taught about the divine logos by his Jewish brethren.  As God’s plan of redemption is unfolding, there is now more clarity on WHO the “Word” has been all along – Jesus the eternal Word/Son of God.  It is through Him (the Word) that all was made (just as in Jewish thought), except now the Word became a man/flesh and dwelt among us.  But even this is not completely foreign because in the OT Scriptures God was seen as a man upon the earth (while at the same time somehow fully spirit enthroned in heaven ruling and maintaining the universe).  The Word/Son of God revealed Himself (theophany) in the form of man to Abraham, Jacob and Israel prior to his incarnation.  But what became of this human body after the Word appeared in it?  Since “God is Spirit” (Jn. 4), we know He did not return in His glory with it.  This being the case, I affirm that when Jesus ascended in the divine glory cloud and went back into the glory He shared with the Father before the world began, that He no longer presently has a physical body (Acts 1:9-11; John 17:3-5, 24).  We no longer know him according to the flesh (2 Cor. 5:16).  In AD 70 Christ returned in His pre-incarnate form “in His glory” (in His glory cloud) and now has taken up His home (along with the Father and Holy Spirit) within the believer – of which through faith we “believe” this to have taken place (Jn. 14:2-3, 23, 28-29; cf. Lk. 17:20-37; Mrk. 8:38-9:1).

John 1:14 literally reads that the Word (that in the previous context states is God) “lived in a tent” or “pitched his tent” among us just as Jehovah pitched his tent in the forms of the Tabernacle and Temple in the OT and dwelt in His glory among Israel.  Here again, God’s presence was both on earth and in heaven at the same time.  When God’s presence filled the OT Tabernacle, His “glory filled it” (Ex. 40:34-35) and now John says that we have seen his “glory” full of grace and truth.  God fills His Son/the Word and through Him all things came about and in Him is the exact representation of His being (Heb. 1:3). (Note:  Although I have learned a lot about the Jewish understanding of the “Word” through John Gill and John Lightfoot in the past, I have found Dr. Michael L. Brown’s treatment on the subject to be the best so far!  See his book, Answering JEWISH OBJECTIONS TO JESUS Vol. 2 Theological Objections, (Grand Rapids, MI:  Baker Books, 2000), 14-23).

2).  Jesus is God who creates – (cf. Jn. 1:1-3; Cols. 2:6-9; Heb. 1:3-10 / Gen. 1:1; Ps. 19:1; Ps. 33:6).

3).  Jesus is God the Ancient of Days who rides upon the clouds and is worshiped – Many Rabbis didn’t fully understand such passages as Daniel 7:13-14 and had to admit it was possible that there was a description of two Divine beings being depicted.  Only God was the divine “cloud rider” and “worshipped.” And yet the NT seems to follow the (OG) LXX which reads that the one like the Son of Man comes upon the clouds “as (not “up to”) the Ancient of Days” and is worshiped (Dan. 7:13-14).  Jesus is depicted as the Son of Man coming upon the clouds, the eternal “alpha and omega” and the Ancient of Days in the book of Revelation (cf. Rev. 1:7-18).

a.  His coming upon the clouds affirms He is the Divine Son of God to the High Priest – who claims Jesus is “blasphemous” for making Himself out to be God in this way (Mt. 26:62-66).

4).  Jesus is God (the Ancient of Days) who’s face is seen sitting on the heavenly throne in glory and judgment establishing His Eternal Kingdom– In Matthew 25:31-46 and Revelation 20:11-15 Jesus sits as God (the Ancient of Days) and is worshipped as such (cf. Dan. 7:9-14).

In the book of Revelation God and Jesus (the Lamb) are said to sit on the throne and yet Jesus/the Lamb is at the center of the throne and it is ONE face they see: “The throne of God and of the Lamb will be in the city, and his servants will serve him. They will see his face and his name will be on their foreheads” (cf. Rev. 3:21; 4:2; 5:6, 13; 7:9-10, 17; 22:1, 3-4).  There is one throne (not two), His servants serve Him (singular) who sits upon the throne, and they see His (singular) face and worship Him/God (singular) (cf. 22:9).  The face that is seen whom is God in the New Covenant / New Creation is none other than that of the Christ’s/Messiah’s (Isa. 52:8; 1 Cor. 13:10-12; 2 Cor. 4:6; Rev. 22:4).  The “face” here is no more literal than the “lamb” on the throne.  This is a vision and human accommodative anthropomorphic language is being used.  At Christ’s “soon” Second Coming in AD 70 to close the Old Covenant age, we continue to see God’s face spiritually in the spiritual New Covenant / New Jerusalem / New Creation.

5).  Jesus is Immanuel (“God with us”) and thus “Mighty God,” and “Everlasting Father” – (cf. Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1).

6).  If you have seen Jesus, you have seen the Father – In John 20:17 Jesus says He goes to “my Father” and “my God,” and yet Thomas when He sees Jesus declares, “My Lord and my God!” (Jn. 20:28).

7).  Jesus is the eternal and great “I am” – Jesus is the great “I am” that is “from above” whom Moses saw in the burning bush and Abraham longed to see (Jn. 8:56-59; Ex. 3:14). For this the Jews sought to kill Him (again for blasphemy [claiming to be God] cf. Mt. 26:62-66).

All of Jesus’ “I am” statements are spiritual realitiesfor us to experience right now – It is odd that Futurists will recognize this and yet then proceed to cherry-pick His “resurrection” as only a physical event and ours must therefore be at the end of history (Jn. 11:5, 25-26):

Scripture teaches that His resurrection was the “first.”  Obviously He was not the “first” to be raised physically!  Christ’s physical resurrection was a miracle and sign to demonstrate that He was the “first” (“first born” & “first fruits” cf. Cols. 1:15; 1 Cor. 15:20) to be raised from a much more serious death – the spiritual / sin / death that separates man from God, which came through Adam the very day he sinned (cf. Gen. 3:17).  It is this death that Christ overcame at His parousia in AD 70 (1 Cor. 15).  In AD 70 at Christ’s Second Coming and resurrection of the dead, those alive believing in Him would “never die” (Jn. 10:25-26; see also 6:47, 50-51, 58; 8:51 – this is a spiritual resurrection for the living (while living upon the earth – not leaving it).  At His coming the living were gathered into His spiritual Kingdom, and His full presence was restored “within” them (Mrk. 8:38-9:1; Jn. 14:2-3, 23, 28-29; Mt. 24:30-31/Lk. 17:20-37/21:30-32) – and that is the resurrection for the living.  And when they die physically (post AD 70), they do not go to a waiting place (again death/separation has been overcome), but go directly into His presence.

8).  God is the “Lord of lords” as is Jesus – (cf. Deut. 10:17; Ps. 136:1-4; Rev. 17:14).

9).  God “alone” is “Savior” and yet Jesus is the “Savior” (cf. Isa. 3:3, 11; 45:15, 21; Hos. 13:4; Luke 2:11; Phil. 3:20; 1 Tim. 2:3; 2 Tim. 1:10; Jude 1:25; 1 Titus 2:13; 2 Pet. 1:11; 2 Pet. 2:20).

10).  God is “from everlasting” or eternal and so is Jesus/the pre-existing Divine Word – (cf. Isa. 43:10; Psalm 93:2; Isaiah 63:16; Micah 5:2; Jn. 8:56-59; Jude 1:25; 1 Jn. 5:20; Heb. 1:8).  Jesus taught, “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand”(John 10:28).  Jesus Christ (the eternal Word) is eternal, and therefore has power to give “eternal life.”

11).  God is the Rock and so is Jesus – (cf. Deut. 32:4, 32:15, 32:18, 32:30-31; I Sam. 2:2; and Psalm 18:31; I Cor. 10:1-4, I Pet. 2:7-8, and Rom. 9:33).

12).  God is the Shepherd and Jesus is the promised NC Shepherd of God – (cf. Ps. 23:1; 80:1; Ezek. 34:12).

13).  God is the light and so is Jesus – (cf. Ps. 27:1; Mic. 7:8; John 1:4-9; 8:12).

14).  God is the ONLY “first and last” and so is Jesus – (cf. Isa. 44:6/Rev. 1:17).

15).  Only God is omnipotent (all powerful) and yet so is Jesus – (cf. Rev. 19:6; Rev. 2:26; Cols. 2:2-10; 1 Tim. 6:15).

16).  Jesus said God alone must be worshiped and yet Jesus is worshiped – (cf. Mt. 4:10; Mt. 8:2; 9:18; 15:25; 28:9; Jn. 9:38; Acts 10:25-26; Rev. 19:10; Dan. 7:13-14 (OG) LXX).

17).  God alone forgives sins, and yet Jesus forgives sins – (cf. Jer. 31:34; Mrk. 2:5-11; 1 Tim. 3:16).

18).  God would re-marry and restore Israel in her last days, and yet Jesus is the Groom who marries the restored new Israel of God (i.e. the Church) –  Under the Old Covenant God was married to Israel (cf. Ex. 19).  After the Kingdom splits, then God is pictured as being married to two sisters as His wives:  1) Israel (Aholah / Samaria capital of Israel) and 2) Judah (Aholibah / Jerusalem capital of Judah) (cf. Jer. 31:31-32Ezek. 1:1-41 Kings 11:9-13). These two sisters were notorious for their adultery and playing the prostitute (cf. Ezek. 23:3; Jer. 3).

Although God divorced Israel through the Assyrian captivity, He remained married to His other harlot wife Judah, from which line of descent Jesus/Messiah would come.  Judah/Jerusalem was judged by the Babylonian captivity but never divorced (cf. Ezk. 23:22-45).  Yet, in Israel’s last days God would re-marry Israel (the scattered 10 northern tribes) who became sown in the land of the Gentiles and in essence became Gentiles/Samaritans (Hos. 2:18-23).

Jesus is God who begins courting His wife with the woman at the well (Samaritans – John 4).  Here the eschatological courtship/marriage begins.  The believing Samaritans, Jews, God-fearers, and Gentiles constitute the restored and “last days” marriage.  Jesus states He is the Groom that would consummate His marriage with the Bride at His coming in the AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” (Mt. 24-25).  In the book of Revelation God finally divorces His unfaithful wife (OC Jerusalem) through the Romans, and yet at the same time consummates His marriage with the restored NC Israel of God “shortly” and Christ’s AD 70 “soon” coming (Rev. 1:1; Rev. 17–22:20).

19).  God alone forgives sins, and yet Jesus forgives sins – (cf. Jer. 31:34; Mrk. 2:5-11; 1 Tim. 3:16).

From all of this we learn:  “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

Concluding Full Preterism and Middle East Eschatology

Those whom are truly interested in the eschatology of Jesus and the NT, will readily see that Jesus’ kingdom was “not of this world” and was not to be advanced through the sword.  His kingdom is “within” and it is advanced when His subjects preach the gospel and love their enemies.

Christians are justified in defending themselves and their families, but they realize the kingdom itself does not advance through violence.  Full Preterist Christians realize that under the New Covenant, we have no “sacred space” (land or globe) to conquer, because we are God’s “sacred space” Temple, New Jerusalem, Heavens and Earth – of which He now inhabits – a kingdom that cannot be shaken.

Contrary to the teachings of Muslims, Zionists, and Dispensational Zionists, and the ignorant speculations of Hollywood and the media, the gathering of the armies for “THE war” in Armageddon and “The war” of Gog and Magog was an event that was fulfilled in Jesus’ contemporary generation and thus “shortly” fulfilled in John’s day.  When the first century Christians saw the sign of either the Idumean armies or the Roman armies surrounding Jerusalem, they left the city and God used these armies to bring desolation and destruction upon the the city and her Temple.

The Church today is not to look to a sign of “wars and rumors of wars” or nuclear developments in the Middle East, that allegedly will bring about “THE” final war and “rapture” of the Church.  And she most assuredly is not to fund and support them!

Full Preterism is Gospel Eschatology and the Biblical view of which the nations of the world are called to enter the gates of the New Jerusalem through faith.  Come to the living waters weary sinner and partake of Christ – The Tree of Life.

Here are the accurate theological and eschatological “ideas” that I believe will solve the problem over time.

 Theological / Social Warfare:

Christian Full Preterism must continue to write books, hold conferences and debate Christian Futurists (i.e. educate and clean up our own house). We are growing and winning these debates and will continue to do so.

Debate Islamic apologists and modern “Jewish” apologists that Jesus is God, we are saved by grace through faith alone, and Christ has kept His promise to return in the AD 30 – AD 70 “this generation” – therefore, there is no more “holy land” or “holy sites” to perform prophetic “holy wars” over!

Produce three Full Preterist movies for the U.S. and M.E. (and in applicable translations).  I have the proposals already drawn up and ready to go.  Hack social media to get this information and the real gospel to these suppressed people.

 Political / Literal Warfare:

Renegotiate our alliance with Muslim countries and with Israel:

“These also are sayings of the wise: To show partiality in judging is not good: Whoever says to the guilty, “You are innocent,” will be cursed by peoples and denounced by nations. But it will go well with those who convict the guilty, and rich blessing will come on them. An honest answer is like a kiss on the lips.”  (Prov. 24:23-26).

Destroy militarily any Islamic caliphates that declare war with us.  Disprove and humiliate (through Scripture, logic, and mocking as Elijah did) their eschatology intellectually while also humbling them militarily.

We should not support Muslim countries that believe we are to be under Sharia Law or secretly support more open or “extreme Islamic groups.”

Reconsider or renegotiate this alliance (see the reasons below) if certain conditions are not met.

Negotiate Middle East “peace” from a U.S. theological / eschatological position of strength:

a).  Israel has no religious right to land post AD 70 and we are not to be “blessed” by God for honoring the false eschatology of Premillennial Dispensational Zionism which gives them all the Palestinian land they want – because they think it is their God given right.  Such reasoning is not only anti-biblical, but Christian Palestinians have been murdered in the name of this “blessing.”  The fact of the matter is, the blood of these Christian Palestinians are on the hands of these alleged “Christian” gullible and easily manipulated Zionists!

b).  Modern so-called “Jews” holding dual citizenship with Israel should NOT be allowed in high levels of our government.  It has been proven Israel’s spies on our country more than any “ally” we have ever had.  Finding 5 Israeli’s driving a white van rejoicing as 9/11 was taking place (some of which were members of Mossad – Israel’s form of our CIA) and other Israeli’s driving another van that day with explosives, is more than troubling!  It is also disturbing that “Jewish” higher-ups (some that have dual citizenship with Israel) actually oversaw this incident and let these individuals go is also very disturbing.  To add insult to injury, the Jewish controlled media did not report on these issues!

Jews are Asiatics, are a menace to this country if permitted entrance, and should be excluded by this Constitutional Convention.” (Benjamin Franklin).

c).  Since modern “Jews” esteem the Talmud above the Law and the Prophets (the OT), they have continued to hate and mock Christ (as depicted in the Talmud) and have persecuted and tried to suppress and supplant Christian culture with lawlessness in virtually every nation they have settled in.  They have also sought to control others through predatory lending practices.  This behavior must STOP before any alliance with Israel is to continue.  We also cannot allow our currency to be manipulated by privately owned international banks – that again are predominately owned by Jews (research Rothchild family and their dominance over international banking).

d).  It is difficult to hear on the News that we should re-think some of our allies that are Muslim (Saudi Arabia and Egypt for example) because of their adherence or support of Sharia Law which suppresses women and freedom of speech and religion; while at the same time turning a blind eye to Israel making it illegal for a Christian to hand out tracks or has to renounce his Christian faith in order to become a citizen there.  They have also become a very racist nation – in their persecutions of African refugees (“Israel will always be a white nation”), and in their views (again as expressed in their Talmud) that Gentiles only exist to serve them.  Does this sound like a country supporting traditional “Christian” beliefs our nation was founded upon?!?

While demanding change from them on these levels, we should also be engaging with modern “Jewish” scholars and demonstrate that their own theologians have taught the following over the years which point to Jesus being the Messiah:  1.  In their “last days” their would be a terminal “generation” in which they would not be able to discern what their end was (Deut. 31-32), 2.  The Messiah would suffer Isaiah 53, 3.  He would be a divine/man Messianic figure that would have to arrive before the destruction of the Temple in AD 70 per Daniel 7 and Daniel 9:24-27.  Also use their own Talmud traditions to preach the gospel in that 4.  the “days of Messiah” would be a new exodus (Isa. 11/Ps. 90:15) 40 year reign (as Saul reigned 40 years, Solomon reigned 40 years, and David reigned 40 years) between the OC “this age” and the coming NC “age to come.”

If Islam and Israel continue to disregard Biblical theology/eschatology, then they can kill themselves over “holy land” and “holy sites” that each have allegedly “stolen” from each other over the years.  We don’t have a dog in this fight – PERIOD.  Post AD 70 God has “taken” the OC physical kingdom from Israel and “given” (and transformed it spiritually) to another “nation (the Church) bearing the fruits thereof” (Mt. 21:33-45).  The promises and blessings under the Old Covenant were “in the land” but now under the New Covenant post AD 70 they are “in Christ.”  There is no longer any “sacred land” eschatology – Selah.

Many reason that we have a common ally in Israel to help conquer aggressive Islamic developments in the Middle East that threaten us here.  But I think it is becoming increasingly clear that Israel is pulling and manipulating us into these conflicts.  One may say that modern Israel sort of resembles a democracy in the region, but that they support freedom of religion and a Christian worldview that America was founded upon – is bogus.  Benjamin N. comes here and meets with Evangelical crack-pots like John Hagee and gets their money before coming to our Politian’s to take more.  Hopefully we will begin waking up to the fact that he and Israel have been playing us for a very long time (going back to pulling us into WWI – as leverage for Britain to give the Zionists Palestine).

We must no longer fund or have as allies any country that funds or supports Jihad — in any way meaning through their education, support of Sharia Law, suppressing other religions, women, etc.…

And again, we simply should not be throwing billions of tax dollars away to Israel so that she can continue her racist genocide in the middle east –drawing our young men into wars and their graves to support her wickedness so she can forever try to usher in her made-up messianic figure and view of the coming kingdom “redemption.”

We need to become energy (oil) independent.  We can no longer be dependent on Middle Easter Islamic countries that want to destroy us economically and ultimately physically (Islamic eschatology).

The Roman Catholic Church Has Tried to Self-Fulfill “the End is Near” “Holy War” Prophecies That Have Already Been Fulfilled

To be honest and fair while the Catholic crusades were a defensive response to the slaughter and theft of Islam from Muhammad’s day and throughout the Middle Ages, the Roman Catholic Church with her various Popes and Monks in times past have sought to motivate her soldiers to fight Muslims viewing them as the seven headed beast of Revelation and preparing them for the “soon” end time battle of Daniel 7 and 12; Ezekiel 38, and the book of Revelation:

  • 626 – Avars besieging Constantinople were End-time Gog and Magog.
  • 632 – Muhammad is seen as the “Little Horn” of Daniel 7.
  • 637 – Muslims capture Jerusalem and the mosque built upon the site of Solomon’s Temple is seen as a fulfillment of the Abomination of Desolation” (Dan. 9; 12 and Mt. 24:15).
  • 634-640 – Muslim invasions are seen as “announcing the advent of Antichrist.”
  • 691 – The rise of Islam is a sign of the nearness of the End.
  • 700 – In The Revelations identified the rise of Islamic Empire as the End-time war of Gog and Magog.
  • 850 – Byzantine Christian saw conquests of Muslims as preparation for “the end.”
  • 854-870 – Alvarus of Cordova saw Muhammad crushing the saints and their execution in Cordova to be the fulfillment of the little horn’s persecution of Daniel 7.

Muslims create their own historical propaganda – in that somehow they were the victims of the Crusades and that somehow they liberated Christians who were allegedly living peaceful in a pluralistic society under Islamic rule.  History tells a different story leading up to 1095 in that Christians in Jerusalem were killed (crucified & beheaded), persecuted and literally marked, their churches burned etc… (772-937).

This is the BACKGROUND in which Pope Urban II called for the first Crusades in 1095 – it was defensive and reactionary in nature to the brutality of Islam over Christians and the theft of their property and lands.  The Popes letters and cries for help were to protect pilgrims to Jerusalem that were subject to persecution, and regain land that was stolen by Muslims.

Many Catholics such as Robert Spencer point out that the crusaders were primarily motivated to enter Jerusalem for religious reasons – and if they had to defend themselves they would.  He tells us they did not come for wealth or to oppress Muslims, for they had to sell much to participate in the journey to Jerusalem.  However, that is not the entire story.  While Spencer is critical of Scott’s movie, The Kingdom of Heaven (which portrayed both groups as religious fanatics), the fact remains that some Catholics were motivated by eschatological “the end is near” “holy war” “religious reasons”:

  • 1095 – Just prior to the first crusaders sent to Jerusalem, they were seen to usher in the fulfillment of the book of Revelation whereby they would meet the Antichrist, defeat him, and reign until the end of the world.
  • 1191 – Islamic leader Saladin is seen as the sixth head of the dragon (and the “one who now is” Rev. 17:9) in the book of Revelation and the seventh was the Antichrist who was already alive in Rome. Yet King Richard the Lion-hearted said, “The one who now is [Rev. 17:9] is Saladin, who now oppresses God’s Church and holds it captive along with the Lord’s sepulcher, the holy city Jerusalem and the land where the Lord walked.  But he will soon lose it” because God was going to give him the victory.
  • 1213 – 1323 Begun with Pope Innocent III and others see the reign of Muslims and Islamic law in the seven headed beast of Revelation 13 and that 666 represented the number of years Islam would be powerful until God’s crusaders would soon bring it to an end (the beginning and end of the 666 years keeps being adjusted).
  • 1249 – The failed crusade of Louis the 9th was a sign that the end was near.
  • 1297 – The seven headed beast of Revelation 13 was the Saracens because starting with Muhammad, there were seven key Islamic leaders.
  • 1329 – 666 represented the years between Christ and Muhammad. The beast of Revelation 13 was son of Chosroes, the Persian leader who was defeated by Heraclius during the Crusades.

For the specific documentation for the above dates and the false predictions see: Fracis X. Gumerlock, The Day and the Hour Christianity’s Perennial Fascination with Predicting the End of the World, (Atlanta, GA:  American Vision Pub., 2000), pp. 144-139.

The crusaders were not only motivated to engage in the crusades because this was a “holy war” with a view of an imminent eschatological end approaching, but to be granted redemption and the forgiveness of sins.  Urban II preached the First Crusade at the Council of Clermont.  Many people believed (because this is what the Pope told them) that all of their sins would be forgiven if they carried out this momentous task.  Like their counter Muslim opponents, they were practically guaranteed a place in heaven by the Pope.

Their objectives were to hinder the spread of Islam, to retake control of the “Holy Land,” take back their “holy sites,” — with many of their warriors viewing this crusade as a means of redemption and expiation for sins.  Urban II’s own letter to the Flemish confirms that he granted “remission of all their sins” to those undertaking the enterprise to liberate the eastern churches (Peters, Edward, ed. (1971). The First Crusade. Philadelphia: University of Pennsylvania Press).

Of course Muhammad and the Quran motivates Muslims for “holy war” by securing them salvation through martyrdom etc…

Catholic European world domination theology can be seen in The Requerimiento document: written in 1513 by jurist Juan López de Palacios Rubios of the Council of Castile:

“On behalf of the King, Don Fernando, and of Doña Juana I, his daughter, Queen of Castille and León, subduers of the barbarous nations, we their servants notify and make known to you, as best we can, that the Lord our God, Living and Eternal, created the Heaven and the Earth, and one man and one woman, of whom you and we, all the men of the world at the time, were and are descendants, and all those who came after and before us. But, on account of the multitude which has sprung from this man and woman in the five thousand years since the world was created, it was necessary that some men should go one way and some another, and that they should be divided into many kingdoms and provinces, for in one alone they could not be sustained.

Of all these nations God our Lord gave charge to one man, called St. Peter, that he should be Lord and Superior of all the men in the world, that all should obey him, and that he should be the head of the whole Human Race, wherever men should live, and under whatever law, sect, or belief they should be; and he gave him the world for his kingdom and jurisdiction.

And he commanded him to place his seat in Rome, as the spot most fitting to rule the world from; but also he permitted him to have his seat in any other part of the world, and to judge and govern all Christians, MoorsJewsGentiles, and all other Sects. This man was called Pope, as if to say, Admirable Great Father and Governor of men. The men who lived in that time obeyed that St. Peter, and took him for Lord, King, and Superior of the universe; so also they have regarded the others who after him have been elected to the pontificate, and so has it been continued even till now, and will continue till the end of the world.

One of these Pontiffs, who succeeded that St. Peter as Lord of the world, in the dignity and seat which I have before mentioned, made donation of these isles and Tierra-firme to the aforesaid King and Queen and to their successors, our lords, with all that there are in these territories, as is contained in certain writings which passed upon the subject as aforesaid, which you can see if you wish.

So their Highnesses are kings and lords of these islands and land of Tierra-firme by virtue of this donation: and some islands, and indeed almost all those to whom this has been notified, have received and served their Highnesses, as lords and kings, in the way that subjects ought to do, with good will, without any resistance, immediately, without delay, when they were informed of the aforesaid facts. And also they received and obeyed the priests whom their Highnesses sent to preach to them and to teach them our Holy Faith; and all these, of their own free will, without any reward or condition, have become Christians, and are so, and their Highnesses have joyfully and benignantly received them, and also have commanded them to be treated as their subjects and vassals; and you too are held and obliged to do the same. Wherefore, as best we can, we ask and require you that you consider what we have said to you, and that you take the time that shall be necessary to understand and deliberate upon it, and that you acknowledge the Church as the Ruler and Superior of the whole world, and the high priest called Pope, and in his name the King and Queen Doña Juana our lords, in his place, as superiors and lords and kings of these islands and this Tierra-firme by virtue of the said donation, and that you consent and give place that these religious fathers should declare and preach to you the aforesaid.

If you do so, you will do well, and that which you are obliged to do to their Highnesses, and we in their name shall receive you in all love and charity, and shall leave you, your wives, and your children, and your lands, free without servitude, that you may do with them and with yourselves freely that which you like and think best, and they shall not compel you to turn Christians, unless you yourselves, when informed of the truth, should wish to be converted to our Holy Catholic Faith, as almost all the inhabitants of the rest of the islands have done. And, besides this, their Highnesses award you many privileges and exemptions and will grant you many benefits.

But, if you do not do this, and maliciously make delay in it, I certify to you that, with the help of God, we shall powerfully enter into your country, and shall make war against you in all ways and manners that we can, and shall subject you to the yoke and obedience of the Church and of their Highnesses; we shall take you and your wives and your children, and shall make slaves of them, and as such shall sell and dispose of them as their Highnesses may command; and we shall take away your goods, and shall do you all the mischief and damage that we can, as to vassals who do not obey, and refuse to receive their lord, and resist and contradict him; and we protest that the deaths and losses which shall accrue from this are your faultand not that of their Highnesses, or ours, nor of these cavaliers who come with us. And that we have said this to you and made this Requisition, we request the notary here present to give us his testimony in writing, and we ask the rest who are present that they should be witnesses of this Requisition.”

We have one mediator – the God/man/Jesus Christ that alone can grant and pardon sinners from their sin (cf. 1 Tim. 2:5; Mrk. 2:1-12).  No priest or pope has the authority to do so.  Nor do they have Scriptural authority to “rule the world” through violence, theft, and slavery.

The Church is a Kingdom of Priests (cf. Rev. 1:6) and God rules from His throne in the New Covenant New Jerusalem / Temple (i.e. within the hearts of God’s people – Lk. 17:20-21ff.; 2 Cor. 6:16/Ezek. 37:27; Jn. 7:37-39/Ezek. 47; Gals. 4;24-27; Rev. 21-22:17).  The Roman Catholic church is wrong on so many levels – space forbids a detailed treatment.  But hopefully seeing how wrong the Catholic Church can be in this area of eschatology (ruling “from Rome” through murder, theft, and slavery) in contrast to how Christ and His Kingdom comes to sinners — will cause Catholics to explore many more of her heretical doctrines when it comes to salvation by grace through faith alone.
